fingerpressing........... we call that " creasing " in origami. I've always been really good at supreme gift wrapping ( even w/o tape ) ~ but I really have enjoyed your other video ( on bow making ) because the ribbon/bow part just GETS me every single time!
Rebecca: I LOVE a beautifully-wrapped present & have a permanent "wrapping station" in my home with paper, ribbon & embellishments at the ready. One of my "can't live without" tips to make beautiful packages without raw edges or tape showing is to have a double-wide tape dispenser from an office supply. They are weighted so you have your regular tape and double-sided tape side by side without having to stop & use both hands-like with the little plastic disposable tape dispensers. Enjoy my tip!
my mom, when she was in college, wrapped gifts with her friends at a store in the mall. she taught me how the store taught her how to wrap gifts, and this is almost exactly the same way!
I started my career (it was a seasonal job when I was in college) as a gift wrapper at an exclusive store.
This is exactly how we would wrap presents. I would add, know what type of bow and placement you are going to do BEFORE you start to wrap your gift. If the paper has a design to it that you will be wanting to highlight, make sure the placement of the highlighted design feature is exactly aligned on the bottom (err, top) of the package so that when you turn it over - :D
Hi @McKennahLane , You are exactly right in fact I thought about redoing this video to hit that point... Maybe next year :-) But you're right. If the Paper you buy has a large center figure, cut your paper so the deign is lined up perfectly when you complete the package. In this case, I often do a fabulous wired ribbon around the outside instead of on top so I don't cover the spectacular design I painstakingly placed so well. When placed on its side, looks like a bow on tip of your head :-)
Then why are you watching a gif wrapping video... In January? ....... @pete275 If the answer is Buck sent you... that was nice of you to stop by. Perhaps you care about having a nice home?? Check out some of our design videos instead, If not... thats OK too. RR
@PeopletewPerson I buy paper from many sources... as I find it. I think this paper was purchased from Target. They always have beautiful paper. I also find AMAZING PAPER at the Create and Barrel. Their paper this year was out of this world! I bought up as much as I could the day after Christmas!
Soo good. My gifts always look pretty sad! Now I will try the finger pressing thing. I also liked that you cut the paper to the perfect size BEFORE wrapping. I have tons of leftover and it gets bunched up on the ends. Really helpful Rebecca Thanks. Faithful Follower and Subscriber!
thats good i like to wrap and take my time on it dont listen to these guys your wrapping is great........ do you have a present that you wrapped that stands out from everyone elses presents?? whats your best wrap ever ??
My fiance and I are doing our first joint christmas this year and I wanted to make the gifts look special. This was really helpful THANK YOU SO SO MUCH =D <3 xxx
You are correct @fervent66, But the person receiving the gift has no doubt that the giver went out of the way to do something nice for them. Isn't that what giving gifts at Christmas is all about? In our home, we do rip the paper off but thats part of the fun.
It's not for everyone... but it does work for some.. my family included. I would like to challenge you to try it and see if it doesn't make a difference in both your attitude as you give your gifts, and in the people receiving them ;-) RR
My mom would always, always unwrap her gifts with such care because she would want to reuse the gift wrapper, lol! And we would always, always tell her to tear it because it's fun! :-D
Yup! Me and my sister do it the same way as you, except for tucking in the ends.I'll have to tell her about that and how it really makes a difference! Thanks Rebecca! Onto the bow making for me :)
Actually, I gave up buying gifts that need to be wrapped. My friends always want lots of little things.
I do gift baskets or containers. Lots of wired ribbon that was on sale after Christmas, and loads of discount cellophane. With a little practice, they look marvelous.
Hi Rebecca-Finally, a video that is professional, and easy to follow! Loved this video, because you showed how each step makes a difference in the final product.
Thank you NonniPam for your nice compliment. This was actually my very first video I uploaded to YouTube. Now, here I am one year later with 13 videos and over 140,000 hits in all. It's been so much fun to make contact with people all over the world. I'm so glad you found the video helpful.
Very interesting, friend Rebeca! A beautiful lesson in packaging. I thank you very much for sharing this wonderful work with me and I take the opportunity to wish you a Happy 2010.
This helped with every present except the one I got my nephew, Aaron.
It was this stupid soccer ball, and I couldn't find a box, so I had to wrap it without one. It has a semi-box, boxed on two sides, so I tried to wrap it that way. But the ball protruded on the other two sides, making it almost impossible to wrap.
When I was finally finished, I decided I'm never wrapping a soccer ball again unless it's inside another box.
I agree. It's hard to make an un-boxed gift look really nice.
Sometimes I use softer paper and at the rounded end, I twist the paper and tie it with a bow at the neck. Kind of like a Tootsie Roll where the ends are twisted.
Most of the time, I try to get a box that will fit but that's not always possible as you discovered :-)
LOL, you guys have obviously not watched my video on how to "Set the Table for a Dinner Party", where I show how to properly set a beautiful table for occasions like Christmas and Thanks giving. In that video, I confess that I don't know how to cook! . . Sad but True!

I used to wrap presents for rich people when I lived in Los Angeles.
I kept hoping I'd meet somebody famous, but none ever had their presents wrapped for them.
Not ones that *I* liked anyway.
Then I recently discovered that the one I like most doesn't even celebrate Christmas: he celebrates Channukah instead.
That doesn't really matter though, b/c I think you give gifts at Channukah too.
