What most people will never get (due to the media's spin) is that Terri was a person with a disability . . not a dead brain. If you choose to not get to know or understand persons in Terri's situation, then you deserve the superficial and uncompassionate life that you lead.

I am a nurse and a feeding tube cannot be placed for nursing convenience. This is completely incorrect. A feeding tube is considered an invasive procedure that REQUIRES a Physicians order. A chest x-ray then needs to be obtained to confirm that the feeding tube is placed in the stomach and not the lungs. A nurse can lose his/her license for placing a feeding tube without an order. If this woman's brain remained without oxygen as long as they stated I highly doubt she was able to swallow food

You need to do your research, some of the court battles were to get the insurance to pay for Terri's rehab and therapies, they has said she would not benefit from them, so they wouldn't pay for them. He was fighting to get them. Also Dr. Bodin needs to meet me, I have had low potassium since I was 27 and they can find no reason for it, I sought treatment for my symptoms, I was lucky in that I had symptoms before I had cardiac arrest, but it does happen. I as a nurse have seen it more than once.

I can't think where it was that I read about this research being done, but it was a legitimate publication. Surely, you've heard of cases where, when one half of the brain gets damaged beyond repair, it's possible for the other half to take over its functions. That is OLD news. This other is a recent medical advance. I can see that you really aren't sure of what you're saying, or you wouldn't have to resort to name-calling. But, no matter what, I don't see what the harm would have been. . .

terri schiavo was totally incapable of language recognition. reacting to external stimuli is possible in pvs patients, but its not conscious or purposeful. and she sure as hell couldnt communicate on any level. so no worries of her telling tales. i recommend you go and read some medical journals on pvs. start at the bmc or bmj websites, because you dont seem to have a clue what pvs actually is

Actually, it wasn't the fault of the nurses--and she probably DID need a feeding tube in order to be fed sufficiently. But the one who gave the orders to the nurses to quit giving her anything by mouth was her "loving and faithful" husband. Terri had been accepting and enjoying the taste of soft items like Jell-o before Michael started threatening any nurses who would give this kind of food to her.
This was terrible. Death is "IRREVERSIBLE". We were not dealing with decisions of to go or not go, or everyday decisions. We were dealing with a lively person, human being like us. If you take into consideration all of the doctors testimony in this case then you would know that Dr. William Hammesfahr refuted, with facts, that Terri was not in a PVS. You could tell she was aware and Michael Schiavo ignored this, plus she was a healthy young woman who suddenly collapsed and reasons as to why are not founded?? Not hardly. Michael had to many secrets, why else would he fight 4 so long and hard to kill his wife instead of giving her parents rights to her care?
I'm sorry but you are wrong. There was one doctor out of many doctors involved who thought that she wasn't in a PVS. The rest all agreed she was. And the tape of her "being responsive" was a short clip of HOURS of footage working with her which yielded NO response what so ever. She was not healthy, she was bulimic. He fought for HER. She didnt want to be kept alive. He did it simply out of love for his wife.
In my line of work I deal with many different patients and clients. Many of whom are in fact in a PVS. They have absolutely no ability to interact and are not aware of those around them or their surroundings in general. It was clear just by her reactions (eyes), smile, etc that she was not in a PVS.I am not saying she wasn't sick, but she was in no in a PVS. He had something to cover up, end of story. I have a daughter and I can't imagine.....

My point with that is that everything Terri did was consistant with the diagnosis of PVS. all of her reactions and reflexes were not abnormal for someone in her condition.
The CT scans of her brain (which you can see online) show that most of her brain was cerebral spinal fluid. she was CLEARLY in a PVS.
As I have done countless times over this case, we will have to agree to disagree and most importantly everyone should be made aware of the importance of a living will. If Terri had a living will in place so many years of arguing, heartache, and tears could have been avoided.
It does not matter how many HOURS of nonresponsiveness were there. If there were ANY responses that should be enough to let you know that Terri was indeed alive and deserved to live.

I am a nurse and a feeding tube cannot be placed for nursing convenience. This is completely incorrect. A feeding tube is considered an invasive procedure that REQUIRES a Physicians order. A chest x-ray then needs to be obtained to confirm that the feeding tube is placed in the stomach and not the lungs. A nurse can lose his/her license for placing a feeding tube without an order. If this woman's brain remained without oxygen as long as they stated I highly doubt she was able to swallow food

You need to do your research, some of the court battles were to get the insurance to pay for Terri's rehab and therapies, they has said she would not benefit from them, so they wouldn't pay for them. He was fighting to get them. Also Dr. Bodin needs to meet me, I have had low potassium since I was 27 and they can find no reason for it, I sought treatment for my symptoms, I was lucky in that I had symptoms before I had cardiac arrest, but it does happen. I as a nurse have seen it more than once.

I can't think where it was that I read about this research being done, but it was a legitimate publication. Surely, you've heard of cases where, when one half of the brain gets damaged beyond repair, it's possible for the other half to take over its functions. That is OLD news. No signs of physical abuse (supposedly) showed up in the autopsy that happened over 1.5 decades later, but earlier examination of Terri's medical records showed definite signs of abuse!

Actually, it wasn't the fault of the nurses--and she probably DID need a feeding tube in order to be fed sufficiently. But the one who gave the orders to the nurses to quit giving her anything by mouth was her "loving and faithful" husband. Terri had been accepting and enjoying the taste of soft items like Jell-o before Michael started threatening any nurses who would give this kind of food to her.

Even Michael had hope that she would recover the first three years, but he realized (with the help of doctors) that she would NEVER recover. Have you read the whole story? The father (bob) never bother to visit her and only after the malpractice suit did he visit her (even then it was random). He only wanted the money that Terri won (his whole family was bankrupt).

1. I read both sides of the story: i never rely on the media for information (anyways the media was supporting the parents- so i dont know what youre talking about)
2. I did reasearch- i read Michael's book, the autopsy report, and other books that deals with her case.
3. NO it was not shortly after- it was 3 years!
4. All that money (around 700,000) was given only to maintain Terri's medical support.
5. The money he won is gone because the numerous trials

If you take into consideration all of the doctors testimony in this case then you would know that Dr. William Hammesfahr refuted, with facts, that Terri was not in a PVS. You could tell she was aware and Michael Schiavo ignored this, plus she was a healthy young woman who suddenly collapsed and reasons as to why are not founded?? Not hardly. Michael had to many secrets, why else would he fight 4 so long and hard to kill his wife instead of giving her parents rights to her care?

I'm sorry but you are wrong. There was one doctor out of many doctors involved who thought that she wasn't in a PVS. The rest all agreed she was. And the tape of her "being responsive" was a short clip of HOURS of footage working with her which yielded NO response what so ever. She was not healthy, she was bulimic. He fought for HER. She didnt want to be kept alive. He did it simply out of love for his wife.

In my line of work I deal with many different patients and clients. Many of whom are in fact in a PVS. They have absolutely no ability to interact and are not aware of those around them or their surroundings in general. It was clear just by her reactions (eyes), smile, etc that she was not in a PVS.I am not saying she wasn't sick, but she was in no in a PVS. He had something to cover up, end of story. I have a daughter and I can't imagine.....

My point with that is that everything Terri did was consistant with the diagnosis of PVS. all of her reactions and reflexes were not abnormal for someone in her condition.
The CT scans of her brain (which you can see online) show that most of her brain was cerebral spinal fluid. she was CLEARLY in a PVS.

As I have done countless times over this case, we will have to agree to disagree and most importantly everyone should be made aware of the importance of a living will. If Terri had a living will in place so many years of arguing, heartache, and tears could have been avoided.

Funny, he allowed and encouraged all sorts of therapy for several years -- right up until every single expert had told him the chances of recovery had dwindled to nothing. I guess he didn't have anything to hide, after all. Funny also how the autopsy proved him and the experts completely right. Funny also how the hospital Terri was admitted to after her collapse recorded absolutely no signs of physical attack. Why did so many want to embarrass and humiliate Terri by keeping her alive?

I'm sure that, had there been an autopsy, Aunt Ruby would have been shown to be blind also--and deaf. Those parts began to shut down as she got closer to death after a courageous battle with cancer. However, she was "at home" right until the last. I have another aunt who has been blind for most of her life--but she's not brain-dead. If Terri's brain turned to liquid, it likely happened somewhere during that time when she was being tortured to death.

I support personal choice but as a person who lives with a disability I advocate protection from starvation/dehydration. If people want to allow themselves to be killed instead of live with a disability fine but don't mandate it as a 'medical treatment' for all people with disabilities.

(I WANT) before a bunch of cops came into the room and made everybody get out. Who knows? Had she been allowed to finish her sentence, it might have been "I WANT TO DIE!" Somehow, I doubt that--and, even if that were so, it would show that she was in no way, shape, or form brain-dead!

As to dying by starvation, the U.S. is slightly backward when it comes to end-of-life options; however I believe it is a legal requirement, and is similar to how a coma victim would have to die to avoid lawsuits and blame.

Main difference is that he was helped to torture her for many days until she died. That after years of trying to make her life miserable and using money specified for Terri's rehab and long life for other things, such as ending her life so he could be set with another woman.
