My first assignment after Sheppard was Randolph AFB and Talon 1. Crewed them from 82-83 and at Reese in 86. Such a simple plane to work. Thank you LtColUSAF for the kind words.
My favorite uncle flew one. I have a pic he gave me of him standing in front of it. I was 18 yrs old at the time. He was 27. The caption on the back simply says:
"Cool Breeze 1970". And man I really thought he was!! Thanks for the memories.
Your years of dedication working to keep the T-38s flying were appreciated by those who flew them. I flew more than a few incentive flights for Crew Chiefs of the quarter, and always thought I was re-paying a debt. Thanks.
Man do i miss working on this aircraft. I was a crew chief on the T-38A for 13 years @ Williams AFB. AZ. Loved starting these up and doing ops checks after certain maint procedures.( Boat tail install. gearbox etc...) Great vid. !!!
@JabbaTheSlut@JabbaTheSlut . Dude, When were you at Williams.......my guess is after 73'? If earlier did you know MSgt. Lynton 'Bill' Holt? He was a T-38 section line chief at Williams in 1971-72 before being transferred to Homestead AFB in Miami.
Great video and it does seem like yesterday. I logged 1,700 hours in the "white rocket" at Vance December 1974 to August 1980. Had a weather divert into Webb either January or February, 1977. T38IP and college buddy Bill Ulm bunked us up for the night. After Webb closed, we got 5 of their junked T38s and the last Iranian students, that flew tweets at Webb, to train in the USAF. I taught two of those "darlings", LMAO!
WOW-great footage- my father flew this plane for the air natl. gaurd 7 years in scotsdale Az, and the Detroit area. I cant wait to tell him about this.
I always said that the wings wouldn't stay on. Now, it been flying 40 + years. I stand corrected. (Still looks like the wings shouldn't stay on though.)
All T-38 aircraft currently in service are receiving new wings. With avionics upgrades, the life of the '38 will extend beyond 2020. Some estimates set the retirement year as late as 2040. Incredible.
No, sorry. The original was shot on Super 8 movie film without sound. I thought about adding a music track, but decided the viewer could just turn up their iPod and listen to whatever they like.
It's aaaa talonnnnnn babyyyy

Always great to hear from other T-38 Instructors. I myself trained foreign nationals for over 2000 hours; challenging.
Webb's T-38s were the earliest production, but I always thought, well maintained mechanically. Never once had a maintenance abort.
Thanks for watching.
