Shane was being an idiot. I mean, I don't think Bale should have exploded like that, but I would have done the same thing.

They were filming a very emotional scene between Christian Bale and Bryce Dallas Howard, and Shane walked into Bale's eyeline. And since Bale is a method actor who gets very, very immersed into a role while filming, breaking his concentration is like poking a sleeping bear.

Besides, Bale apologized mere minutes later and they continued to film for the rest of the day.

I've already recommended Eric Bana for every role that would otherwise go to Bale. He's a much better-looking Bale, and he's a nice guy in real life.
