Love it. I do hair as well...whenever I have dyed my hair in the past I ALSO buy my own developed and color and mix my own **** up! It places the power back into my hands! LOVE YOUR HAIR!
I colored my hair before locking and about 5-6 months after locking. I wouldn't recommend it though because it leads to bunching and unraveling. You're better off waiting until your locs mature.
No it doesn't, but relaxing your hair will if you over process it at some point, because the damaging chemicals weaken your hair and can lead to breakage and even balding.
i love ur locs!! they are almost identical to mine except mine are not sislocs. But yea the color does look great on u, and ur locs look healthy keep it up! :)
Wish that I had had the same result as you when i colored my sl. My sisterlocks are 10months old. After I dyed them they got really fuzzy and dry, with alot of bunching on the ends. And nothing that I have tried has gotten the healthy look back. Im temped to cut them off and start over. Any advice.
Your experience is no different from mine because the same thing happened to me. The only advice I can give is to not color your locks anymore until they have matured. If you do dye them then condition them immediately after.
Thank you for your response. Ur locks are so beautiful I feel better that there is hope for me now :)). I am definately going to leave the dye alone until my locks completely mature.
Yes. If you want SLs then I would recommend having someone start them from you (because the initial process is time consuming and hard work), but you can start them yourself using different methods to achieve similar results.
I prefer to color my roots before I tighten them , but I make sure to wait until my next session in order to let my hair rest from all the processing. Personally, I don't want to weaken my hair by coloring and then tightening right away. You could also tighten and then wait a few days to color. Either way is fine.
God your locks are amazingly beautiful! I can't wait till my hair gets a little longer, though my locktician and others tell me to also enjoy it at this length! ;-) I just reached my first year locked and I think they are coming along nicely. Let me know what you think of them! Yours are already gorgeous and they are only going to get sooooo much prettier!
Thank you! Your locks look great and I can tell that they'll look even better as they continue to mature. I'm excited for you!! It's true that you should enjoy every step of your journey, because as you approach each length it's an experience in itself. I'm use to wearing short hair, but now that my locs have grown longer i'm learning how to adjust to this length and keep them out of my way with some activities. LOL!
Hi again, more questions :-) Do your locks ever get fuzzy? If so, just wondered what you do to deal with that. Also, do you 'groom' your locks, meaning trim away hairs that stick out...?
My locks are always fuzzy. The only time they are not fuzzy is when I freshly tighten them, but after 2 days they go back to being fuzzy. It doesn't bother me though. I do groom my locks sometimes only because it makes my latching a little easier and decreases extra volume. My hair is already thick so I don't need to add to this volume which I already have. Good question!
I haven't cut or trimmed my hair since I shaved it off a few years ago. Once I did the big chop I never trimmed it once, so it's layered naturally this way. However, if I do end up cutting or trimming at some point, then i'll definitely let you know how I did it. :-) I read that if you trim your locks, then it's best to trim them at an angle versus straight across in order to avoid blunt ends and unraveling.
If you are still going to your consultant, then she'll be able to tell you. If your lock feels like a thick, stiff mouse cord when squeezed and that doesn't stretch when pulled, then you'll know.
I'm a DIY and have been sisterlocked for exactly 4 months and i am considering coloring now. I cant wait any longer!!! I have very kinky hair and about 90% of my ends have sealed, with the exception of a few in the front. Do u think that I'd undo a lot of my locking progress if i color now? or do u suggest that i wait a twee bit longer?
Yes, you will definitely unravel your locks if you color now and it will retard the locking process. To be honest, you're better off waiting until your locks have fully locked.
Thanks! Awe, don't be. If you really want to color your hair but you're too scared to try it yourself, then I would highly recommend going to a colorist/hair dresser. I've been doing mine for years so I pretty much know what i'm doing.
Thank you! I don't moisturize my hair. LOL! I can't use any moisturizes aside from water because my scalp condition is way too sensitive for most products. My substitution is good nutrition and plenty of H20 as mentioned in my Hair Care Regiment video.
D: i clicked so i could get a better view of you and your gorgeousness :D
