  • Somebody sounds good! Did I hear somebody sound good? I can see the smiling faces.

    You're a warlock. Of Rock. Rock...lock.

  • well done mate

  • how did you get the timing in the intro ahahah

  • @brunosmovies I used Audacity DAW for this ... so have the song in the background to record, then remove the bits you don't want in the final edit :)

  • What showmaster is that? You got a pretty good sound out of it

  • @Jambrek It's a SSS Flame Ash Top ... SD single coil pups wiht the middle one reverse wound. I normally use it with middle and bridge combined. The action is pretty high, so I use it for slide.

  • The note at 1:14 sounds wrong

  • @StinkySasha1 cool story bro

  • should i ever get married, i want one of those sliders as my wedding ring

    awesome cover, you rock!

  • I just bought a guitar slider today. Still getting used to it.

How long did it take you to perfect the slide guitar? By the way,

great song. Not a single mistake!

  • @CBBalthazar oh there's lots of mistakes ... and I'm still learning to play slide!!

  • @Docca3 Is it Standard Tuning?

  • @CBBalthazar open A

  • That was very well done man, and what a great song

  • is it standard tuning ?

  • @LedZepplin3853 E A E A C# E (open E) tuning

  • @ExtremeBackYard Open A :)

  • Great job man

  • with that top and trousers you actually remind me of page

is it really him in disguise ???

  • @surferboy14lp i was thinking the same thing he likes him from the led zep dvd

  • what guitar is it???

    damn beautiful!

  • This is an epic song and you do as good as page. Page would be proud of you.

  • what tuning?

    Awesome btw.

  • @xogumbl This is open E

  • @xogumbl Open A.

  • open A tuning right?

    What amp were you using??

    Thanx

  • @paokmacedonia Open E

  • WOW!

  • oMG, perfect!

  • Lol. When you first start out your cold and lame, failing to capture the haunting feel of the intro. When you get a little spark of inspiration from the fast parts, you come alive and start nailing phrases about as well as Page himself! So, therefore I would suggest playing the intro over and over, with the record, turn off the lights and think about death. Think about you pet goldfishes demise. You wont be in a hurry to get thru the intro then. I think you have great potential.

  • Whats the distortion you're using? a fuzz?

  • I noticed that you put your slide on your middle finger. I tend to have mine on my ring (I think Page uses his on his ring as well). Any paticular reason as to why you prefer your middle finger (does it make a different sound, better feel, etc)? Thanks. Loved your cover btw.

  • fool drink some caffeine and start getting that groove >:/

  • ah, very good - and I hope you're in a band and taking this out for the people out there..

  • @neilflt ta very much - not in a band - just play for myself ....

  • Hey where did you get that slide from??? it fits your finger like a ring... i need something like that!

  • just learned this, fun tune.

  • Awesome!! U r a great player, i want to learn how to use a slide!!!

  • sikk man!!

what is the tuning of the song?

and how is your sound set up?

  • @yamaha250javi standard

  • Curiously I was playing around with this on computer and... I don't know if this is fairly common to rock music but if I have this right, the 1st few phrases from 5:55 'see them in the streets... etc' are not equal in length to those that commence from around "And I know it's got to be real

Oh, Lord, deliver me..." the tempo slows, relaxes... now how do the band do this if not a planned thing, telepathy?

  • Also, at the beginning when you slide up to the 12 fret, do you take your finger behind the slide of the strings allowing the strings to sing out on both sides of the slide? It's hard to tell with all that distortion but I suspect you don't.

  • with this little slide, I tend to hold fingers off the strings and mute with the right hand. I couldn't ell you exactly what I do as it's an instinctive thing.

  • @Docca3 But you should mute the strings with your left hand behind the slide with your pointer finger. Just a technique tip.

  • Practice ... and knowing how each other play. Once you've played together for a long time, you just know how each of you is going to react to something.

  • nice job!

  • well, you didnt nail the solo right but wtf, good job sir!

  • ta very much - some day I'll get it right :0

  • I wanna play like you ;)

  • how good did you nail it???

  • wow, you play verry well!

  • ta very much :)

  • So this is what you get up to on a Sunday, when you're not at church... naughty

  • haha - yeah .. right :-S

  • what tuning are you in? open D?

    sounds good!

  • open a EAEAC#e

  • brillantante! muy buenooo amigo ;)

  • haha pretty good job but tuck out ur shirt and hang loose dude its a zeppelin song haha u look a lil uptight

  • There are so many covers of In My Time of Dying that I have watched but this is the best, so far.

  • thanks a lot - tho many more can play it far better ....

  • hey where did you get this tab.i have the first little part of the song. but theres one part that i dont get.

  • Nice work.

  • good job i love to play this song my self but make it a litttle more fluid and add some vibrato because its so more awesome that way

  • next time try putting the metal thing on your ring finger

  • I've never got on with the slide on anything other than my middle finger!

  • pinkys the way to go pro

  • 01:15 OUCH ON THE TONE :P

  • aww great song dude

i have got to learn how to play it

  • good job dude a little rusty in one part

  • Judging by all the In My Time Of Dying covers theres only man that can play it and thats Jimmy Page

Im well aware of bob dylan and wille johnson

  • very true :)

  • Throw in some vibrato!!

  • i agree

  • is this in DADGAD?

  • Open A tuning... you tune the d, g and b strings up one step (so it's an A chord)

  • you need a glass slide

  • quite possibly - I don't play a great deal of slide, as this shows!!!!

It's in open A rayher than DADGAD

  • Great cover! Only thing you need to work on is sustaining the long notes. Other than that, keep goin at it! Your doin good

  • yo nice i can only do part of that song and how long did it take u to finish and get it down all good like this keep rocking nice shit

  • ta - it's not too bad once you've got the tuning right!! But I've still got a way to go with this

  • slide is ez as long u know where the notes are :D

  • Amazing dude!

  • very nicely played. ive been workin on this one for quite some time, the solos are very hard to get down lol.. as soon as i get a camera that will record for more than a couple minutes ill throw one up here :)

    keep rockin

  • how complicated is slide?? seems difficult to the average joe....

  • not too bad once you getthe hang of getting the slide directly over the ffret wire - but you do have to be precise, which just takes practice!

  • i try and lock my index finger on the quarter centimeter between the e string and the bottom of the neck, then slide w/ it locked, then as the guitar's neck gets thicker up the fretboard, adjust ur index finger, but make sure it doesnt touch the strings, or else itll sound like uve fretted the slide, and ull get feedback from the slide, (that was very hard to explain, i am not good at explaining guitar techniques), hope it helps

  • hey great cover urs is the only cover tht sounds the closest to the song

  • ta very much - I think there are better covers out there though :-o

  • ***** cool

  • its great

  • wats the tuning for this

  • its E A E A C# E (open E) tuning

  • open A

  • dude nice solo. can u check out my guitar vids??

  • what model of slide r u using

  • just one I got years ago as part of a pack with a full size and half size - stainless steel.

  • ok so does that sound come from the slide or do u have a good amp

  • the sound is a classic drive with the gain turned a long way down from a Korg AX1500G effects unit. I record direct to PC - not via amp

  • Great job 5/5, where did you get a slide that small I've been trying to find one for a while or do you just have huge hands?

  • haha - yeah, and we all know what they say about big hands ;) ... but really, I got a full and half size slide set donkey's years ago - probably in Windows (instrument shop in Newcastle upon Tyne, UK). I only found the full size one again recently, but I usually used the half size one anyway!!

  • thats a great tone you got there, and nice playing too. mind telling me what settings you used? im still kind of new at guitar and i cant seem to get this tone down. all i know is its open A tuning.

  • Ta very much - I'd love to give you the settings on my AX1500 ... but can't for the life of me remember them (never wrote them down!!). It's almost certainly an AC15/30 amp model with vintage cab - low drive levels - and single coil pups on the showmaster

  • really helpful... If you eaggerated the movements (especially on the non-slide parts) I truly appreciated.. For those of us who have come to grips with not being a pro, slide is a great undertaking, and your model on the 2nd finger looks like a great idea! way to go!

  • Dude nice job! I'm actally learning to play the guitar and this is my first song! :D I'm on the chorus lol

  • this is your first song??? good luck with it!

  • Awesome playing, almost sounds like the studio version.

  • ta very much - appreciated :)

  • you're very welcome

  • this is absolutely fucking beautiful mate, great work!

  • thanks very much :)

  • sounds awesome

  • nice playing man;)

  • thanks very much :)

  • Is what you're wearing a referance to what Jimmy wore in 1979 at the Knebworth Arena?

  • hahahahahaha - no, just my normal attire :)

  • oh, well it's a strange coincidence anyways.

  • this is great, im trying to learn it myself...

  • great distortion but you need more sustain. and you should try putting the slide on your ring finger. that way, you can mute the strings behind the slide more easily. Just a few helpful hints!

  • ta very much - I just can't get on with the slide on my ring finger. So I try to hit the right sets of strings rather than muting them all behind the slide! Makes life much more difficult in many ways ... but it just kinda works for me!

  • So where can i find a video lesson of this solos of this music?

    Thanks

  • you can get tabs at ultimateguitar[dot]com and there's a video lesson for the slide riffs on Vanderbilly[dot]com

  • please make a lesson only the solos that I cannot play

    i don't speak english well

    Thanks

  • thanks for asking - but I don't think I play these well enough to do a lesson :(

  • here is another answer... i use d-a-d-g-a-d

  • yeah - I guess you can use lots of different tunings :)

  • Its in open a tuning

  • Does this use normal tuning? I've heard alot of different answers..

  • no - it uses Open A tuning; E A E A C# E so you play an Amaj chord on open strings

  • when you slide up to the 12th fret you can dig into that note a little longer, I think it would improve the overall sound a bit. solid cover though

  • yeah - I'd agree. I was just learning to play with a slide when I did this - I should give it another go sometime.

  • Nice 1, good cover.

  • ta very much :)

  • hey man, u dont have to justify your abilities to these ppl. your legit. is that an "ace" strap?

  • ta very much - I don't mind ppl criticising as long as it's constructive - it's one reason I do these! The strap is an ancient one from my teenage days with embroidered motifs on it ... but it's survived well!

  • the solo it's fake

  • why do you say it's fake?? I can asure you, it isn't. You can hear it's in no way as good as many others play it - and can only touch the dust that was on the coat tails of the Great God Page!!

  • so the second riff is 3/7~-0/5-0-3\0-0???

  • yeah - something like that. The root is always open strings but for the first run to 7th you can start the slide from wherever you feel comfortable. Some of the slides are also played as 3rd/4th string together and some as 3rd only to give the difference in tone.

  • you are very talented, whats the name of that thing on your finger? i wanna read about it... im new with all the guitar things!

    thanks :D

  • Ta very much :) the metal thing on the finger is a slide/bottle top ... all sorts of names. It allows one note to slide into another rather than having definite intervals. They're used lots in country and blues/rock.

  • damn good

  • ta very much :)

  • Could you make a video lesson of this music?

    Thanks

  • don't think I play it well enough for a lesson!!!!

  • you play well but i dont think u were feelin it

  • I suppose it's about how you feel something - difficult to put do some things when you have a restricted field of view and there's no immediate audience! Plus, I was still learning it then. Maybe now I'd be more comfortable with the technique and be able to just play ....

  • the slide is one of those things you just gotta feel im going to post a video of me playing this song you see what i mean

  • great - let me know when it's up :)

  • Very good. Congratulations!!

  • ta very much :)

  • thats bout exactly how i play it but i use no tablature.

  • very good man. sounded alot like zeppelin

  • thanks a lot - tried to get the sound OK :)

  • not bad kid, when the eagle leaves the nest uve not so far to go..winds of may blow around and that will always be so.i no how it fells to die and slip through,to the very depths of my soul.we r eagles of one nest with a message in our souls

  • Kid???? many years since I've been called that ;-) Thanks very much

  • a how about the nest is in our soul

  • Priceless... it sounds great... very good performance man!

  • ta very much :)

  • Good job! It sounds a lot like Led Zeppelin! That's a good thing!

  • ta very much - tried to get something like the sound :)

  • cool

  • N E W R U L E S: No more gutless critics against You-tubers who give us free lessons. Dampening the chords and exagerated removal of the left-hand shows us precisely which fret we are on. THANK YOU!

  • love it great tone

  • Is this in Open D? I can't quite pick it out.

  • Open A

  • THANK YOU!!! I've been trying to figure this out for a while and all of the tabs I've looked up seem really wrong. I thought it was open G for a while, but that didn't seem right either. Anyway, nicely done. What kind of guitar are you playing? Looks somewhat like a strat but with two knobs and no wammy....is that a custom strat or maybe a showmaster?

    Zeppelin rules!

  • You're welcome :) The guitar's a fender showmaster. It has a nice high action which is good for slide, though I've been using it recently for some Rush songs. Check out Tom Sawyer to see it in all it's glory ... but get the sunglasses out first!!!

  • no in open g?

  • i love that song

    u great

  • man i love that song

  • extend ur notes longer

  • yeah totally, a little rushed, should be swankier

  • yeah - i'd agree with you ... I was just getting into slide when I did this one as well as getting to grips with open tunings. It'll be one one the list to have another go at!

  • nice

  • mmm nice job,,but i play it a little bit better than you

  • ha - wouldn't surprise me!!

  • but anyway you are good, and dont forget that zep rocks!

  • Hey Zylandia, you couldn't play better than my fuckin' nut sack!

  • mmm i dont know if i play better than your nut sack, but i play it well,,if your nut sack play it better than me, well post a video, im working on my video

  • Can i ask what tuning you used for this song

  • it's in open A

  • hey i just got a gutair today with an amp.. just wanted to know is it easyier to play with a slid?? all i got to go on is an instruction video which sucks, but slid looks a little easier.. which is easier? slide or regular finger really wanna learn just getting fustrated fast!

  • Hi - I'd say slide is much more difficult. You need to be very accurate with the positioning and be able to mute different strings the slider is sitting on. Making it sound good takes a lot of practice. Start off with regular finger, find you way round the fretboard, learn some simple songs and then get down with slide. Hope it helps. Doc

  • if you just started playing guitar this probaby isnt the best song to start with anyways.
