Actually with a Juice Man juicer (only $90 in USA) you can make a massive amount of green juice from several heads of celery and lettuce plus cucumbers in under ten minutes. The quality of extraction is not as high as the Champion, but it is better for a beginner or just if you're addicted to juice and want to drink it like a caveman! By the way, Karen Knowler is hot!
I hate being the only 16 year old who loves his greens! No one can understand why I want to get a vitamix and a dehydrator to kick start my raw food diet! Everyone thinks I'm weird.
@TheLoserKingdom I've been there too, I used to have to argue with my mother to get her to buy more fruit and vegetables (our fridge was full of processed foods) I ended up saving up and buying a dehydrator and vitamix on ebay. I don't think you're weird, you just understand that it's important to look after yourself, but remember that you can still start a raw food diet without the equipment, I just started with a £20 juicer. Take care and keep doing what you feel is right for you, Micaela :)
I guess that is true if it is dried out completely during the juicing process. Mine is usually pretty wet bc I have to use a blender and a paint strainer to make my green juice.
You are missing out. It is about the same as simply making a green smoothie. You add the pulp to a fruit smoothie so it isn't just waste. The video was great though.
I am curious, is there a difference between juicing and just eating the food whole? It looks like you wasted/lose of the food by juicing. Plus, it is not in it's natural form. I do not know a lot about this, so maybe I am missing the point here.
@Irisheyes77christy It's simply about getting more nutrients into the body more quickly and easily. Most people do not chew well or eat enough fresh produce, juicing takes care of that.
Hi Karen, Thanks for your films they're very helpful. I've just started juicing having bought a vital max juicier but I'm after a jug with a sieve like yours, would you tell me where you bought it or did it come with the champion?
@theprokofiev Mine came with the Oscar juicer (also known as Samson)... ring up a juicer supplier and see if they will sell you one separately - most will : )
Please note: It's common practice with the Champion as with most auger-type (single & dual) extractors to reintroduce the wetter pulp back through the feed tube for even greater extraction. My experience with dual augers is that it's less necessary. I started juicing in the late sixties with a food grinder and apple cider press thanks to my father's health food stores. We used reusable cloth bags or cheesecloth. The pulp after pressing was always dry as a brick. Btw we never juiced greens.
@metaspherz Yes, sometimes I do re-introduce the wet pulp back in but have not found it to make a massive amount of difference. The Champion is limited in what it can extract however many times you put it back through, but it's still my favourite juicer.
Fresh juice is one of the most perishable foods there is. Think how fast sliced apples brown. Air & enzymes begin to cause oxidated injury to phytonutrients & some vitamins almost immediately after juicing. Adding an acid like lemon juice or a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar will help to keep nutrients up to 24 hours. 2 - 8 hours for leafy green juice. Store the leftover juice in the fridge in an opaque glass container filled to the top with a tight lid. Store in a full thermos to take to work.
I have a Jack Lalanne juicer that seems to leave the pulp a little wet also. The juiceman juicer I've had for 7yrs seems to have drier pulp. However you have to cut the fruits & veggies with the juiceman.
Looks like it needs to be diluted with water. I'm juice fasting right now and the juices are soooooo tasty that I have no cravings for anything else. Juice fasting is definitely easier than the master cleanse or water fast.
change the cupboards and counter top to modern kitchen style.
dont use or show the analog clock. if you want a clock use a digital perhaps, but i would just remove it for filiming
the graphics and sound effects you are using is out dated. the intro music is 80s, so there you go. and the graphics are too heavy. IMO you don't even need to use graphics. if you are oging to use graphics for font, or titles, then use something that is less blocky, and more curvey.
well first of all it's the sound mostly.. very techno. and 80's. you can use a different kind of music.. more something from 2000, and the picture you can change it in like some pictures of you doing what you do... and some tekst... like.. whatthebuck is doing.. I know its NOT what you do..but I mean... the intro..only more serious, because whathebuck is all BUT serious!
When I juice, I don't mind it being a little bitter cause I'm in it for the nutrition. So, I'll put in a few carrots, an apple or two, a full sized celery stick or two, and the rest is collard greens, spinach, kale, and swiss chard. Sometimes, I add some broccoli. It's quite strong, but it's the healthiest thing in the world.
Don't forget that apple seeds contain natural arsenic. If juicing apples regularly you should remove the seeds as the juicer will crush them releasing it. I suppose you'd have to juice a lot of apples, but hey, rather safe than sorry.
@karenknowler The Samson 6 in 1 looks ideal since it's a true multi-tasker for $299 and under. It does pasta, baby foods, nut milks, and juices greens too. Thanks for the suggestion.
I personally drink spinach juice at least 4x a week with no negative side effects, but I cannot (for legal reasons) give medical/nutritional advice because I am not qualified to do so. Perhaps there are nutritionists reading who can do so? Either way it's a good idea to vary greens, yes.
Just curious if you should alternate your 'greens' or can you drink the same one everyday? I thought I read spinach should only be 1-2 x per week because of the oxylic (sp?) acid. Would love to know. thanks!
I have to say I absolutely LOVE your videos. I have been dabbling in this for about 3 yrs but I have been either pregnant or breastfeeding so haven't jumped right in yet. ;-) I must have 10 raw food books/cookbooks and yet I have received more good ideas and inspiration from watching you then any of those books! You look fit and very healthy (unlike some of those other raw foodists) so obviously this is really working for you! Way to go! What a role model for young (and us older) women LOL
What a wonderful series of videos, youre quite the teacher! In response to the person above who asked if you can juice in the blender, the answer is yes! I have also found that you can buy paint strainer bags at most hardware stores and theyre identical (only cheaper) to the nut milk bags bought at healthfood places, to strain your wheatgrass, etc juice. Please keep these videos coming!
Love your videos Karen :O) I am now about 95% all RAW vegan and do many juices and recipies myself. It's great to see so many people bringing this in a fun and easy way. Hopefully many of our fast food places will be replaced with more and more healthy choices for living.

You don't have to worry about that, honestly. Yes they contain arsenic but as you say, you would have to eat/juice a ton to suffer negative effects.

For everyone concerned about the lack of fiber in juicing, I add the fiber at the end that disolves in drinks.

My reply is that if someone is concerned about lack of fibre they would be better to make a smoothie and not have the angst!
