To His Honour, the United States secretary of state, Mr John Forsyth. My dear Mr Forsyth, it is my great pleasure to inform you that you are in fact correct. The slave fortress in Sierra Leone... does not exist lol
@MartellusCarolus A few years before the Amistad incident happened slavery was abolished in the British empire. Research William Wiberforce. A great man indeed. He was the man hand in getting rid of the slave trade over there and he accopmlished it with no war which is very impressive. He got abolished and three days later he passed away, he was a very sick man. Goes to show that was his main intent in life ; }
I understand that, but according to the movie, the English eliminated the slave trade because they thought it's wrong. When in real life, they didn't give a crap about the lives of those blacks, they just wanted to break the Spanish influence in the Americas.
Dude, those lovely royal, queen whatever soldiers committed terrible atrocities in their colonies, especially in India. Which is fine, because everyone did that in that era. No one gave a fuck about slaves' lives.
@MartellusCarolus "When in real life, they didn't give a crap about the lives of those blacks, they just wanted to break the Spanish influence in the Americas."
You are right, I have never liked Spielberg's patronizing tone. Oskar Schindler saved so many Jews because he was making good money with them in the first place. Similarly, the British in the early 19th century were a industrial nation and slavery didn't fit into his development model, just as it was a liability for the northern US.
Particularly this final scene in which the redcoats free the captives is kinda funny because it was the English merchants who actually made a killing with slave trade for centuries.
Anyway by 1839 Spanish influence in the Americas was quite broken already, having lost the continental territories following the defeat at the battle of Ayacucho (1824), with only Cuba, Puerto Rico -and the Philippines in Asia- left.
@MartellusCarolus I know. The same is true of World War II. Fighting to liberate other countries in Europe, how could America be so disturbed by the holocaust when Afircan Americans were treated just as badly as the Jews for centuries. Even during the war legalized segregation prevailed
@jimboski65 @jimboski65 the Africans sold their own into slavery bro so America is NOT accountable to the treachery of the African Nations, but sad to say your history books nor the Nations of Islam mention's this
it's all very beautifull, but the truth is that UK only fought slavery trade because slavery was an obstacle to the industrial revolution that was happening in Britain. The Royal Navy’s subsequent campaigns against the international slave trade were presented as a moral crusade by Britain, but was much more a form of economic war against its less economically developed competitors.
LIKE ALWAYS... IT'S ONLY FOR THE MONEY.... don't be deluded
@alwaysbehappy95 After the British abolition of the slave trade we (they) set about aggressively stamping out slavery amongst other nations. Notably the US, Spain, France and Arabic countries. This is not to distract from the many thousands of slaves still in bondage in the empire.
really? 1805, do you not fucking realize its a 1839 movie?
The RMs never had infantry style headgear, theirs was alwas a hat with white pants. Light blue pants were that of the british soldier at this point in history.
The Marines of the HMS Beagle from a movie about Darwin called Creation are an accurate depiction. These people are just soldiers
@ARC1313 It's funny how much you generalize Americans. It's kind of annoying. Try not to do that anymore. Many of my friends are English and Scottish, and they say otherwise.

problem is...those arent Royal Marines. Those are basic British infantry. Marines never wore those high peaked caps, nor the light blue pants.
Nor did they even carry a white satchel like line infantry.
