(Though it did delete all contacts, info., etc.) Thanks alot! The direct link to b-phreaks soft ware no longer works, but it is still on that site -- just look for it.
Coz NSS is updated. Go directly to the B-Phreaks homepage and download from there. These instructions work with the latest NSS. If you still have problems, post it here again and I'll hook you up.
Follow the instructions carefully and make you sure you INSTALL the Nokia Software Suite AND Nokia Software Updater. You can try to backup data of your phone to your PC with the Software Suite to make sure that your phone is recognized by your PC. THEN, you quit the Nokia Software Suite application and start NSS and follow the instructions from there.

Thanks SO Much! I used a Nokia 6300 T-Mobile USA, and it worked perfectly!- no problems with mem cards, or any damage- in fact, I was able to keep all old files. You may need to find a new NSS logo b/c i had to find mine on a torrent (the site no longer works). THANKS!
this is simply superb.. the instructions work like cheese.. thanks foyaeman.. one thing that i noticed was that my nokia 5300 is making EDGE connections instead of GPRS.. so may t-mobile had disabled that too
i just wrote this and it didn't show up... anyways for the 5310 use the product code 0551710. then after NSS use NSU to update the phone. you will lose t-zones and it will unorganize everything on the phone. and this code is for 5310 red
um guess i forgot to clarify that the code isn't just for the 5310, but its for the red version of like the screen savers and wallpapers and crap. code will work on any 5310. and also to clarify with t-mo i had to change my internet plan to full web access for me to get to use opera mini and gmail and things

In terms of getting the fave 5 app back, I can't help you as I'm not sure..but you still have you're fave 5 and can manage them online. Basically, if you call somebody who is on your fave 5 you still get your unlimited minutes. Hope this helped..

for everyone that is having that scan error deal, if your phone is on the charger take it off before trying this, thats what i did and it fixed the problem
either my battery suddenly became powerful through this method or it messed up the battery meter, because since I did this, the meter has always been on full. I tried to run extensive applications to see if it drains. but so far nothing. (continuous music play for 1 hour, USB connection, phonecalls on speaker phone) nothing.
I was getting pissed that I couldn't use the Gmail app or google maps apps on my phone. Said the certificates weren't signed, even though mozilla is a reputable company! I used this video to unbrand my 5300 and BOOM, I get to use what ever apps I want. It even has more options on it now like, Push To Talk (PTT) and new options for text and picture messages. Just wanted to say thanks. Also, Make sure you use the Nokia Suite to back your phone up. I didn't lose info, but better saft than sorry.
this doesn't help with the use of any simcard... because nokia 5300 uses BB5 and u have to use codes like +pw+########+# something like that u get 3 tries to use em and there is no free programs for that ATM.

haha, don't forget put all the numbers saved on the phone on the sim card. trust me on that one. all my other stuff was untouched. memory card, sim card, all my games and apps untouched. just the numbers saved to the phone got erased. i signed up with t-mobile usa.

No, sorry, all this does is unbrand the phone for full use of 3rd party apps. What you're looking for is "Unlocking", which can only be done by a local Rogers dealer or over the phone. Don't worry, by law they have to grant your request to unlock it :)

It is free, yes, and I am not 100% sure it will work with Rogers. It should, might not, either way, you can reset it back to factory settings if not. Good luck :D

no its works fine and everythin it just unlocks all the features t-mobile turned off like application accssess and stuf now i can use opera mini and gmail and google maps only difference in menu is that youll have 12 menu items instead of 9 so 3 new options
i'm experiencing the same problem. what OS do you have? i'm running NSS under Vista 64, and i get "error!" everytime i click on any button. but sooner on win xp was everything ok.
this worked great and i installed Opera Mini and Google Earth which both worked for about a day but now whenever i click on games and applications, nothing happens. there isn't even an error message and i've tried everything to open them
Awesome tutorial! Everything went perfect and it was very simple. I am now a much happier T-Mobile user since I can use Opera and hopefully Google mobile.
Do you know how to format the 5300 using NSS? Under tools and Factory Setting tabs there is a format option. I tried doing this but all I get is an error. I still have my product code from TMobile and I was thinking if I put the TMO product code back in and do a C format will my phone be like how I bought it?

If you read the description entirely, you would know that Unbranding is NOT the same as unlocking, meaning that you could only use it on T-Mobile, just like before, but you have more features on the phone. If you want to UNLOCK the phone (allow it to connect to other carriers networks), you could call T-Mobile and they will Unlock it for you.

1) Unbranding means removing the service provider's branding on the phone, reverting it to the full featured mode that comes straight out of the factory.
2) No, it does not add in any way to your phone bill.
3) No, it does not give you internet access, but it does maximize the usability of internet access on your phone. You could get t-zones web for about 5 dollars a month through t-mobile, though, and it's unlimited.
4) That varies on who you talk to, but as far as I know it's fine.

I bought my 5300 in Taiwan (unlocked, straight from Nokia) and brought it back to the States. I signed up with T-Mobile but they said it was impossible to use internet on it because the firmware didn't support T-Zone.
So, the phone is already unlocked I believe. Can I sign up for T-Mobile internet package and the net should work outside of the T-Zone app?
Well, if the firmware doesn't support T-Zones, it probably wouldn't work. You can take the phone to your local T-Mobile store and they would be able to tell you for sure.
Yep, when running the Nokia Software Updater, it checks your product code and gives you a firmware according to that. So since we changed the product code, it will give us an unbranded firmware update, if that's available of course.

When installing NSS, did you select Virtual USB as the mode? And also, when connecting the phone Via USB cable, when prompted did you select Nokia Mode?

Actually, no.
That is one of the risks of debranding the phone to Nokia firmware. The myFaves plan requires that you use a phone with T-Mobile software in it.

You need to install Nokia suite first so the drivers for the phone will install. Hope that helps.

no its works fine and everythin it just unlocks all the features t-mobile turned off like application accssess and stuf now i can use opera mini and gmail and google maps only difference in menu is that youll have 12 menu items instead of 9 so 3 new options

i'm experiencing the same problem. what OS do you have? i'm running NSS under Vista 64, and i get "error!" everytime i click on any button. but sooner on win xp was everything ok.

PTT = Push to Talk, a feature not yet supported by T-Mobile.

this worked great and i installed Opera Mini and Google Earth which both worked for about a day but now whenever i click on games and applications, nothing happens. there isn't even an error message and i've tried everything to open them

T-mobile doesn't support PTT currently in the US. If they did you would need a config like you have for tzones and/or internet.

Awesome tutorial! Everything went perfect and it was very simple. I am now a much happier T-Mobile user since I can use Opera and hopefully Google mobile.

Do you know how to format the 5300 using NSS? Under tools and Factory Setting tabs there is a format option. I tried doing this but all I get is an error. I still have my product code from TMobile and I was thinking if I put the TMO product code back in and do a C format will my phone be like how I bought it?

hey i unbranded nokia 5300 using your method .i had an t mobile nokia 5300. now i am in india . after unbranding also only one network is taking ie airtel in india . no othr networks are working . why? whats the problem.....

If you read the description entirely, you would know that Unbranding is NOT the same as unlocking, meaning that you could only use it on T-Mobile, just like before, but you have more features on the phone. If you want to UNLOCK the phone (allow it to connect to other carriers networks), you could call T-Mobile and they will Unlock it for you.

hi, this was excellent stuff for me :) but.. when i try using the music player, it asks for a password, and it asks again for the memory card (i think it's the same thing) .. what's the password!? i tried all the default ones already, liek 0000 1234 12345, the last four digits of my phoen number, but none of them work! HELP!

no, unbranding is NOT the same as unlocking. If you want to unlock it just call t-mobile, they should provide you with an unlock code, for free.

I unbranded my phone, and am still unable to access websites such as youtube. I have the internet on it as you said. I access the website, but when I click on the video it just fails. Any idea?

Adding on: It says: Operation Failed when I try to view a video. Also, when I went and set up my own access point and such, it gave me a different setting that I didn't understand, but I was also about to mess with some ports. Any idea?

1) What does "Unbranding" mean?

1) Unbranding means removing the service provider's branding on the phone, reverting it to the full featured mode that comes straight out of the factory.
2) No, it does not add in any way to your phone bill.
3) No, it does not give you internet access, but it does maximize the usability of internet access on your phone. You could get t-zones web for about 5 dollars a month through t-mobile, though, and it's unlimited.
4) That varies on who you talk to, but as far as I know it's fine.

As far as I know, and logically assuming, unbranding should have absolutely no effect on your signal. It didn't on the 4 phones I tested it on ;)

I just have a quick question. I used this method to unbrand my Nokia 5300 (back in august) and it works great. When you unbrand the phone using this method, does it actually unlock the phone so you can use it on other carriers?

I bought my 5300 in Taiwan (unlocked, straight from Nokia) and brought it back to the States. I signed up with T-Mobile but they said it was impossible to use internet on it because the firmware didn't support T-Zone.
So, the phone is already unlocked I believe. Can I sign up for T-Mobile internet package and the net should work outside of the T-Zone app?

Well, if the firmware doesn't support T-Zones, it probably wouldn't work. You can take the phone to your local T-Mobile store and they would be able to tell you for sure.

Yep, when running the Nokia Software Updater, it checks your product code and gives you a firmware according to that. So since we changed the product code, it will give us an unbranded firmware update, if that's available of course.

Hey thanks for this video but do you think you can post another video showing us how to update our firmware w/ our new unbranded 5300s? I tried but NSU says my phone is not supported. Before when it was branded, I would identify my phone but now it says it is not supported. Do you think this is because we changed the product code?

Due to technical problems, Nokia has removed firmware updates from 5300 and other models for now. (Says so on NSU FAQ)

Ok, I got your message, but let me reply here incase anybody else has the same problem.
When installing NSS, did you select Virtual USB as the mode? And also, when connecting the phone Via USB cable, when prompted did you select Nokia Mode?
