  • Edgar Allen Poe, Woody Allen ... two of my heroes.

  • I was surprised by Stephen Fry using Ned Flanders as a reference! But as a Dutchman I must have poor judgment about how much the British and American popular culture intertwine.

  • You would think the BBC would have better quality videos.

  • @JallenMeodia It is from the first series of QI which is almost 10 ten years ago! No Hd back then lol

  • @UKU2ber That is true but it's still very poor quality. Go find a good clip of Monty Python which came out ~30 years prior to this episode, or Only Fools and Horses which was 1990s, and you'll see it's nothing to do with the age of the show.

It's just poor quality which is odd because you would think if anybody had high quality clips of BBC shows it would be the BBC.

  • @JallenMeodia do you not remember youtube 4 years ago?

  • Climb, Dime, Enzyme, Lime, Mime, Slime, Time, Chime, Shrine, Paradigm, Crime, Fine, Grime, Pantomime, ...

  • It's Edgar *Allen Poe.

  • Rich Hall is probably the only comedian to have never made a joke that didn't make me laugh.

  • @VoyagerAbove Ironically to everyone else I'm pretty sure he's never make a joke that ever made them laugh

  • american history X was a brilliant film though!

  • Peter Serafinowicz is awesome, I think. Does anyone else?

  • 3:40 "i never saw history x because i didnt see one of the first nine" :-D

  • no word rhymes with rhyme? lol wat?

  • Lime

    Mime

    Thyme

    Slime

    Crime

    I'm

    L'chaim

  • WTF American History X was a good movie! Can't imagine why the director tried to disown it.

  • Of Eureka.

One is of Quawts(orange), more commonly know in Ballarat. Quawts(White), just so happens to lead out from Souverign Hill, which is only found better when leading to liquid gold. Liquid gold would flow naturally, help caused by lava, steam, and the tiny intense pressure pockets. It's only when the Brittish arrive, do we find it sensiable to denote any fact, just as it were the same, after the Eureka stockade. Do you see any difficulties, here? Many Maar creators exist in Victoria.

  • 1) Going to go read Eureka now.

    2) How could a director try to disown American History X!?

  • But Dune kicked butt!

  • peter:nothing rhymes with rhyme

    alan:lime

    peter:did i aks you?

  • I'm surprised that all of these "Alans" were not actually Alans. Edgar Allen Poe. Woody Allen. And the original spelling of Alan Smithee was actually Allen as well.

  • @CodeOmega0 Actually, it's spelled Edgar Allan Poe, Allan being his adoptive parents name, it's the one and only correct spelling, any else are typographical errors, he never adapted nor penned any other spelling

  • nothing rhymes with rhyme... except these 18 words ...... xD

  • I am a young Alan and I have a lot to live up to...

  • That gutter thing's not actually true.

  • Hideo Kojima used Alan Smithee as a director's name in the E3 2005-trailer of Metal Gear Solid 4.

  • To be fair (to all the arguers from six months ago), nobody said Poe FIRST came up with the Big Bang theory. Just that he did so 80 years before Hubble, Friedmann, Lemaitre and co. (not forgetting Slipher 10 years before that, who did a lot of the groundwork) did. So you're all right.

  • Ah so that's where the door hinge comment a view videos back came from.

  • Omg is that guy on the left the guy who shouts "IT'S FOUR IN THE FUCKIN' MORNING" in Shawn of the dead?!

  • @Motor2head22 Yeah. Its Peter Serafinowicz, who was in Spaced with those guys and did also the voice for Darth Maul.

"Its not Hip-Hop, its Electro. Prick."

  • @Samael78 Why'd they bite you?

    I DON"T KNOW I DIDN"T STOP TO ASK THEM!

  • @Motor2head22

Oh right, that's why he looked so familiar. Thanks for pointing that out. :)

  • omfg this is so awesome.

  • New series tomorrow.

  • Eureka is not an unrhyming poem at all. It doesn't rhyme because it was an essay.

  • Orange - Doorhinge. No one here a fan of Monkey Island?

  • @tussuduftid Look behind you, a three headed monkey!

  • it's not rhyme but rhythm.

  • grime, dime

  • Peter: The word rhyme, nothing rhymes with it. :D

    Everyone else: Lime, time, slime...

    Peter: Apart from the, :(

    EPIC FAIL!!!!!!!!

  • She shouted "RELATIVITY!" thinking she was a genius.

  • Actually, it was EMPEDOCLES who first proposed the "Big Bang" , not Poe.

  • Actually Eric Idle starred in a Movie called "Burn Hollywood Burn:An Alan Smithee Movie", but the actual Movie was so bad the director disowned it and put on the name Alan Smithee so Alan Smithee directed a movie about Alan Smithee. (and the movies about Eric Idle making a movie he disowns and accredits to Alan Smithee. Epic mindfuck

  • Wow I did not know he tried to disown american history x.... I wonder how different it would have been if he had kept control, and is he happy with its success now?

  • I love how an entirely pointless defence gets more thumbs up than a professional sounding argument.

  • @TimMeijerDoctor Shut your balls. Face. Ass.

  • @mrmootheirrev Have you tried Clonodine?

Helps against Tourette as well as high blood pressure and ADHD, you seem to be suffering from all of these...

  • Serafinowicz is awesome.

  • It's the guy from Shaun of the Dead :D

  • heeyyyy... the guy from Look around you!!

  • Dorange =]

  • i liked american history x

  • @AndroidPhantom Ed Norton re-edited the film to give himself more screen time, the director was well pissed and tried to disown it. He couldn't though because he publicly dissed what Norton did and it's against the Directors Guild rules to disown after going public. It's still a great movie, but I guess he just felt it wasn't his film anymore.

  • ORANGE!

  • I love the BBC, thank you so much putting this on YouTube, and allowing us to watch them for free.

  • Peter got smacked down with his rhyme comment.

But seriously how can you not know a word that rhymes with rhyme?

  • @Ryoushadow i think he was just trying to be facetious...

  • 1:37 what a fucking twat, stop being cryptic you prick

  • @weatherallc05 what else cn u expect from a yank lawl

  • @weatherallc05 cryptic is not the right word!

  • @GotmyplaceinHell noooope its not ;) ohh and please dont go to hell hehe

  • "A tiny pebble of a point...an Alan of a point." I really chuckled at that.

  • @NosdrahcirBocaj you could have just said laughed, you swnd like a right downie saying chuckled

  • Why was "Hobgoblins 2" disowned? The only reason Rick Sloane ever made the sequel to the NOTORIOUS "Hobgolbins" was for laughs.

  • "And I never saw American History X because I er... I didn't see any of the first nine."

  • @lytrigian That may be so, but Stephen Fry > Recorded History.

  • @lytrigian were you in a lit class with the same "Professor of Poe" I was?

  • Alan "Big Al" Alanson.

  • I love rich hall's random humour.

  • well i would only give the credit to the person who predicted the big bang theory is Georges Lamintre

  • What does Rich Hall say immediately after he yells out "Orange" ?

  • @Drrummer "You know I found a Cajun man that rhymed 'Orange' and 'Doorhinge'" possibly

  • @GregorioXII Thanks

  • @Drrummer he says " you know if i were a cajun man id say door hinge "

  • How many people watched this hopping to hear something about Alan Rickman?

  • @JDavis4U I think you will find that the word is 'hoping' - with pp in the middle it refers to jumping on one leg!

  • FUCK KING ARTHUR AND SKY ANY TIME FLIPPIN PLUS

  • @YeahRight8197 Just wait for Sky Anytime Plus HD...then Sky Anytime Plus 3D...Give it time, and we'll see a Super Mega Sky Internet TV Anytime On Demand Plus On Your Mobile 3D....

  • @SamWycombe

    I think I've got that

  • "IT'S FOUR IN THE FUCKING MORNING!!!"

  • WOW WOW WOW WOW WAIT A SECOND IT WAS EMPEDOCLES WHO FIRST PROPOSED THE BIG BANG...

  • You can't use a false name if you just don't want to admit to it; you have to convince your guild it wasn't your fault. (Alan Smithee's been retired, I think, but there are still false names.)

  • It's ALLAN.

  • the bbc need to be taken to task, not only are they ADVERTISING but they are advertising for another media company at that - SKY ! wtf?

  • @thenazgullord There's a little problem with your nerdrage, and that problem would be the Republic of Macedonia.

  • you british moronic bunch keep refering to albanias "neighbour" as macedonia. THERE IS NO COUNTRY NAMED MACEDONIA get it through your thick skulls.macedonia was a provence of ancient greece and now its a part of modern greece.Pella where philip and alexander were born and was their kingdom's capital city is near today's Edessa which is a greek city. stop spreading lies and misinforming people without having done your research.alexander was GREEK he spoke and wrote greek and worshipped zeus

  • @thenazgullord You're posting under the wrong video I think. :/

  • @thenazgullord You are correct that Alexander was Greek-ish. Macedon back then was in the bounderies of modern day Greece, but ancient Greeks regarded them as outsiders and barbarous - a separate people from Greeks themselves.

Also, you seem to have posted on the wrong video...

  • @Ostrogothicus your argument is invalid. the athenians regarded the spartans as barbarians and primitive and the spartans regarded the athenians as weak-hearted and imperialistic. both sparta and athens are indeniably greek regions. the ancient macedonians lived within the borders of todays greece, spoke and wrote greek and worshipped greek gods. todays FYROM's people speak and write a form of slavic mixed with albanian and were introduced in the region they occupy in the 20th century

  • @thenazgullord You seem to have misunderstood what I wrote. And what have Sparta and Athens not liking each other got to do with Alexander? Neither Sparta or Athens denied that the other wasn't Greek so why bring them up?

The fact remains that ancient Macedonians weren't classic Greeks, they were a group of tribes from the Balkans. Just do a little bit of research and you'll discover much - Google is your friend.

FYROM has nothing to do with ancient Macedon, so why bring it up?

  • @Ostrogothicus i bring FYROM up because all you ignorant stupid bastards refer to it as "macedonia" or "republic of macedonia". the fact that you just now wonder why i mentioned fyrom tells me all i need to know. and ancient macedonians werent a "tribe".ancient greece was never a whole country.it was composed of town-states.athens was one and sparta was one too. so was macedonia with Pella (which is well inside greek borders) as capital city. may i suggest opening up a serious history book and

  • @Ostrogothicus using google just to search for porn as that is what it apparently does correctly.thats all i can say considering your lack of historic knowledge. you can believe what you want but all university-level history scientists agree with me and with greece's international argument. that fyrom has NOTHING to do with macedonia and macedonia is a greek region and ancient macedonians were GREEK. take it or leave it THIS is the historic truth

  • @thenazgullord dude, have you actually been reading my posts? because you're agreeing with what I said yet making it seem like we're disagreeing about FYROM.

But historical commentators (from Alexander's contemporaries to modern historians) all aknowledged that Macedonians and Greeks are from similar, though different, stock.

If you want to use Google only for porn that's up to you, but some of us like to expand our horizons and knowledge base. You may want to do the same.

  • @Ostrogothicus thats why you dont have a god damn clue.cause your sources are wikipedia and other ignorant posts from ppl around the world who dont know shit.go to a university library and open up a history book for a change.athenians and spartans are also from different stocks originally. athenians descend from ionians while spartans come from ancient dorian lines.what the fuck does that mean? these differences go back up to 1100bC. the state of macedonia flourished in 200bc.macedonians were

  • @Ostrogothicus and are greeks. todays macedonia is a province of northern greece.between to Ipiros and Thrace.that part has been called macedonia since the 1000BC without ever changing name. then around 1950aD some bastarded yugoslavs and albanians inhabit the area north from the greek borders (which was never part of macedonia) and start claiming they are "macedonians".they even put the macedonian star on their flag but fortunately they were forced to remove it with that "sun"they have now.

  • @thenazgullord I know that Greece has a province called Macedonia, and that FYROM is a 'fake' construct that has nothing to do with ancient Macedon. You and me are agreeing about that dude lol

The only thing we disagree about is whether ancient Macedonians were ethnic Greeks or not. I've seen research which says they weren't, you've seen research which says they were.

So it looks like we'll just have to agree to disagree :)

  • @Ostrogothicus let me just say this: ancient macedonians were to the rest of the greeks as todays cypriots are t to current greeks.draw your conclusions

  • @thenazgullord What Phillip would have known as "Macedonia" before his conquests expanded it is in modern-day Greece, but the Republic of Macedonia has been part of the region known as "Macedonia" since Roman times; it doesn't include Ancient Macedonia because the Greeks took that back in the Balkan wars.

In any case, insisting on referring to it as "FYROM" rather than "Republic of Macedonia" is ridiculous; it's like saying "don't call the RoI the Republic of Ireland."

  • @IoEstasCedonta no what's ridiculous is that even though the country's international name according to the UN is FYROM some dumbasses around europe and the USA insist on calling it Macedonia or Republic of Macedonia thus giving in to the stupid ignorant propaganda of a bunch of motherfucking mix of slavs and albanians that want to ridiculously connect themselves to ancient macedonia even though they came to that region after 1900.it would be something like calling todays americans "indians".

  • @thenazgullord You know that FYROM is an acronym, right? You know what the last three letters of that acronym stand for, right?

And again, you do know that that region has been part of "Macedonia" since the Roman province of Macedonia, right? It's just that Greece took some of it back in the Balkan wars, including the city of Macedon. That country has every right to its name.

And your patent racism is ever charming.

  • @IoEstasCedonta yea a dumb motherfucking american is now going to teach me history. a country with less than 250 years of existence, the biggest nation of dumbasses ever to walk the earth now to history's and science's aid! well done :P fyrom means former yugoslavic republic of macedonia. and it is also a false and temporary name given to this pathetic excuse of a country.and ifs FYROM not macedonia you retarded fat american. macedonia is a greek province. get your words straight dumbass

  • @IoEstasCedonta and you know what else? macedonia used to stretch out up to the borders of india containing iraq iran parts of saudi arabia and many other countries. should these be also called macedonia? you stupid fucking dumbass american. you assholes live up to your name every step of the way. you are the planet retards.have fun in your lack of civilization, knowledge and history and stay out of matters you dont understand and you dont belong in

  • @thenazgullord do you know what the star of Vergina symbolizes with its 16 edges? the vertical and horizontal ones are the four elements of the world earth air fire and water and the rest symbolize the 12 olympian gods. "macedon" and "macedonia" are titles that are GREEK and no bastard albanian slav or any other shit can claim them as their own. period.

  • most famous Alan....is ALAN RICKMAN!!! :#

  • @TrustSnape242 who? im serious who is he?

  • i loved dune

  • why would one dishonor American History X? It's a legit movie.

  • @kustomkure Tony Kay wrote an article in the Guardian about what went horribly wrong, and basically he went crazy and wanted to completely change the original idea of the film. Kay has admitted he lost the plot, and was taking months to edit it, halfway through deciding to change it, and then change it again. Eventually the studio and Ed Norton took over the editing. Kay has admitted he lost the plot completely, but if Norton and others had not stepped in, it would have been massively rubbish.

  • @yellowcougar18 I see. Thanks for the information.

  • Everytime I ask myself, "How can it be more random?", Rich shows me how.

  • @kustomkure

Rich is a class act. It's a shame how he's just sort of barely tolerated by the rest of the panel because he's really funny.

  • i don't quite understand......american history X was a great great movie.....

i guess he lost control of the final cut...cuz it was more than worth owning up to....

  • American History X is one of my faviourate movies. I think it's a masterpiece.

  • "He killed a lot of people with rocks.....in Hollywod."

  • american history x was a sick movie why would u dis own that?

  • What was the movie in which Gene Wilder played a director who´s real name was Alan Smithee?

  • Peter's joke at the end was actually pretty funny, loved it.

  • what poem are they talking about?

  • @Sammo1357

    Eureka

  • these people are total idiots

  • Ned Flonders ;D

If Stephen Fry says it it´s right.

  • Rich Hall is great; an American who "gets" it.

  • you have to have a strong stomach to watch american history x! i only saw 10mins and tht was enough for me!

  • @shockingdiscovery then you dont really know what you're talking about?

  • @Tresetae well the 10mintues i saw u needed to have a strong stomach to watch, its very strong on racism and such (which i knw is the point-im not sayin thts bad just to point out) and in this day and age when its not considered acceptable to have those views in my opinion it does make it quite a hard film to watch

  • 0:00 no ads!

  • @GiantessGirl You fuck face :') I clicked that and got an ad xD

  • @GiantessGirl THAT DOESN'T WORK ANYMORE!!!!!

  • @GiantessGirl brilliant Idea, thankyou

  • which episode(s) is peter serafinawics in? Hes awesome! CAN ANYONE TELL ME?

  • @SupaDrogs I think he's just been on this one which is 'Alan', series 1 episode 10 :o)

  • I feel smart for knowing about Alan Smitheeing. Knowledge that I owe to the internet.

  • young girls and the expanding of universe were also famous obsessions of...? xD

  • Not only is Peter Serafinowicz amusing and attractive, he has been rude with Sarah Alexander.

    There is no God.

  • Fans of Mystery Science 3000 will know the Hobgoblins and Boggy creek films. They were directed by Rick Sloane and Charles Pierce respectively, and are credited at the end of each movie. Seeing that Rick Sloane was actually proud of his Hobgoblins films, he is probably the most hated man in Hollywood.

Oddly enough, the third Boggy creek film is called "Boggy Creek II: and the legend continues". So there is no film called "Boggy creek III".

  • why would you disown american history the movie was amazing

  • @peveyt60 CURB STOMP funniest bit in whole movie LOL

  • @peveyt60 No, it wasn't

  • Poe was most likely not in fact a drunk. We owe that tidbit to the writer of his obituary and literary executor, one Rufus Griswold, who, as it turned out, thoroughly hated him.

Poe may have been *found* wandering the streets in a state of delirium, but he actually died in a hospital.

  • @lytrigian B-B-But Stephen Fry said it :C

  • @lytrigian you're wrong, if Stephen Fry sames something, then it is automatically correct.

  • @lytrigian

You have just ruined my life. If what Stephen Fry said wasn't true, I have no reason to live anymore ='(

    Jk

  • @annie10103 Hey, I learned the same thing in elementary school about Poe. It was only later reading that presented the unembellished facts.

  • @lytrigian 10 points for you

  • @lytrigian I'm sure that if Steven fry were here, he'd say "Oh he's very good.... 10 points I think"

  • @lytrigian

i assume you were alive in 1849?

    no?

    ZENSTEPHENFRYISRIGHT

    HEIL FRY!

  • @Confusedfurry Some portion of the matter now comprising ME was, during the year in question, part of some living organism, yes, to a virtual certainty.

  • @lytrigian

too bad for you memory isnt stored in atoms

  • at 1:50 I seriously thought Peter Serafinowicz was Stephen Fry for a moment

  • rhyme - lime, time, thyme, dime, mime, slime :l

  • what about Alan Moore, isn't he famous in UK???

  • @the12gauge who is alan moore? ahha

  • @the12gauge More of a cult figure than 'famous' in the sense that Davies, Titchmarsh, Ball, Sugar, Shearer, Carr, Brazil, 'Fluff' Freeman, Hansen, or Bennett all are/were. (A lot of football Alans actually.)

  • That doorhinge joke is from Monkey Island!

  • fuck ads! bbc i pay my tv license you cunts
