When I got my Digitech Bass Synth, I really wish I realized that the Digitech vs this Boss pedal is basically apples and oranges. You mostly get an aggressive distorted synth from the Digitech, while this one has much more emphasis on the actual synth. Feels like this is much more useful in a band situation.
Anyone know how he's getting the effect toward the end, where it kind of "repeats" the note? Sorry, not sure how to describe it correctly. You can hear it clearly at 1:49, but it doesn't happen every time he holds a note.
@minusjason That effect your hearing is known as an LFO (low-frequency-oscillator). It's very common in the emerging musical genre "dubstep". In dubstep, it's known as "wobble bass".
@squiresuzuki LMAO @ calling dubstep an "emerging" genre. It's gotten pretty big now. I know what an LFO is; I'm asking how he's getting the effect with *this* pedal. As in, is he using an expression pedal along with it, etc.
@minusjason Don't have to be rude, I was just informing you since you didn't use the words LFO, dubstep, or wobble, and instead you used the word "repeats" and you said "Sorry, not sure how to describe it correctly" which led me to believe that you had never heard it before.
@squiresuzuki I wasn't trying to be rude. It's just funny to me for someone to call dubstep an "emerging" genre. I would have said that a couple of years ago, but not now.
I didn't say "LFO" because I assume there are other ways to achieve a similar sound, and I didn't say "dubstep" or "wobble" because I wanted to leave the question open-ended. I don't see the sound as simply a "dubstep wobble," I see other possibilities for it.
@squiresuzuki But I can see why you would think I didn't know those terms. Anyway I wasn't looking for an answer like "It's an LFO," I wanted to know in a practical sense *how* he is getting that sound. Upon closer inspection I'm pretty sure he's using an expression pedal to vary the rate.
I've got this alien of a pedal and I can't figure out how to use it! Think twice before you guys spend your money on it! I'm not saying its a bad investment. Its a hell lot of fun! But it is hard to use in practice :)
@q66h the bassballs does the vowelly envelope effect really well, but that's about all it does. it doesn't really modulate. but if an envelope effect is all you want, a bassballs is a great pedal and alot cheaper!

@pearljaime2 look at my video. it sounds great. but it doesn't track high notes very well, or chords. except for setting 10 and 11, they are polyphonic.
@RectumPunch Yeah, true for sure. I've used this pedal with my old rig, a behringer (ew) ultrabass combo and it sounded like shit. But with my Gallien Krueger 400 RB head and Ampeg SVT-810e cab it sounds just as beautiful.

@RectumPunch It looks like he is using a Roland amp - which is not out of reach (and not a personal favorite either) but what we are hearing sounds more like DI. So, barring any super expensive preamp, I bet it it fairly accurate in what you can expect right out of the box. IMHO
@joebartone I completely agree with you, actually. I posted that comment when I knew little about effects, rigs, and recording. At the time I just didn't want someone with a cheap, starter set up to buy this thinking it would sound this good, you know? But again, I agree. Thanks for the insight.

That pedal works in a FREEDOM bass?
orlandloquenderoXD 6 months ago
@orlandloquenderoXD It should work with any bass you plug it into.
GreenFloyd12 3 months ago
what happens if I plug an electric violin to this?? Would it work? or it just be awful?
XzevastianX 7 months ago
@XzevastianX Your better off with guitar pedals for a violin.
My friend's got a few guitar stomp boxes for her electric violin. :)
Although it shouldn't sound 'awful' in a sense.

@XzevastianX I think your house would blow up '-'
hahah really, i really want to see how it would sound, if you ever do it put it on youtube o/

Main issue with synth pedals and guitar, is that synth pedals just dont work at all with chords.
