In 2009-2010 I worked into Lincoln from KC and we'd go past this yard on most trips--it was scary to watch the power start piling up, because we knew traffic was way down. We heard the AC4400s consumed more fuel and were more prone to mechanical problems than the older Dash 9s and the newer ES44s, so they were mothballed first. We were glad to see them gradually pulled back out of storage and returned to service.
@Barricade360 I'm not 100% sure on why the smokestacks were taped. I believe it is to protect the exhaust system during storage. As of DEC 2011, all of these locomotives are back in service.
@Barricade360 When locomotives are prepped for extended storage, all the fuel is drained, along with the lube oil and engine coolant, and the stack is taped off so rain doesn't collect inside and rust it out. Obviously all the windows are closed and sealed shut as well.
Whatever happened to those blue and white oakway Electro-Motive engines that start with 90--numbers. I used to see them almost everyday here in Vancouver Wa. I seen only one or 2 pass by in 2009. sucks.
Well, BNSF moved most of them, moved them back and I lost count after the 4th transfer, I really don't know where they are, I don't even think BNSF owns them so I have no idea why they were there in the first place.
Honestly I can say the AC44CW is alright. but the DASH9's can stay as long as theyd like lol. Also the AC44CW and some CEFX's are coming out of storage.
Also a lot of Dash-8s (4 and 6 axle units) got stored during the recession as well out around LA.

So that's where all of BNSF's AC4400CWs go. No wonder I've never seen one before.

They aren't there anymore, most of them are out of storage now.

If there wasn't some EMDX mixed in there.... I'd say "BEAUTIFUL!! HEAVEN!" I hope those GE engines get a nice, hot torch... very very soon.
