  • love em all! and jools looks sooooo young, bless him. :)

  • I had an argument with a friend, He said the 'Squeeze' was dated, I replied that if they magically appeared on the scene today they would be hailed as being a great new band and any of their singles would rocket up the charts. 'Argy Bargy" was the first album I ever bought. Loved it then, and still do to this day.

  • FUCKING AWESOME!! GLENN TILLBROOK'S GUITAR SOLO IS ASTONISHING! HE IS A FUCKING GENIUS!!!!!

  • what a timeless classic!

  • I love the guitar solo!!!!!!!!!!

  • if someone dislikes Squeeze they obviously don't have a clue now do they??

  • Really great track and totally solid band.

Some of us are getting old.....

  • you don't get rhythms like this anymore. nowadays it just 1 simple part repeated for 3 minutes

  • Glenn Martin Tilbrook. You absolute legend.

  • Thanks for posting this, my all-time favourite Squeeze tune and has lost none of its shimmering wonder!

  • JUST CLASS

  • i fucking love the argybargy album

  • @newfuckingwave Always wanted that album. Couldn't afford it in its day and nobody would buy it for me.

    I sitll love that song.

  • @UglySean eBay awaits you lol

  • Great band, even though pub pianist Holland was in it.

  • Misheard lyrics. As a kid I thought he sang "In the bar with the amazon"

  • I'm new here in, so allow me the simple question: what the hell has happened to Jools Holland? Why didn't he go on making music, instead of pushing it?

  • Glenn Tibrook is the sh*t here. Brilliant!

  • great song.......poor audio and Jools Holland just makes a fool of himself quite frankly with the stupid way he jumps about

  • i'll be there as well, cant wait, i have my ticket since march also

  • This is crappy vid quality. You can easily find better audio.

  • I love this tune so much! You don't get rythms like this anymore nowadays every song is some computer sound repeated over and over again while some girls sings in a fake voice.

  • @brotatopineapple Since 1981, with a guy I went 2 high school, and 2 guys I worked with, we've had a band played music off and on. Sadly, we lost our bassist to OD in 2004. Anyway, we had decent chops, especially after the first 5-10 yrs, but we never tried to play music we couldn't do justice to. Zappa would be one, Squeeze is also on that list. Its all in the arrangement and parts. Sounds deceptively simple, but nay, nayyyy.

  • Great song- One of my faves: Really sounds a LOT like XTC though...

  • Think this was their last single with Jools Holland

  • sonido infame

  • bloody hell, totally forgot jools holland was in squeeze, blimey!

  • A very young Jools Holland. Squeeze a Great Band.

  • Does anyone know why in the early days of videos on MTV, the pitch is always altered down about a half step? I've been noticing this a lot, as I look and listen back on many of these older videos. This one is particularly slow, actually.

  • @jpwjr1199 Old tapes, frequently played on old equipment, shit happens, etc.

  • @jpwjr1199 to help us from all are previous brain damage during that time

  • After 43 years of music listening I will firmly say that I believe that this song is #1 on my all time favorites list. Perfectly constructed no matter the angle of examination!

  • Fabulous

  • Fabulous. A great song. It sounds really sexy. Glen your voice is so romantic. xx

  • Great song, but I don't think much of the video. Most of it is too washed out to be able to see. And if you're going to rely on pushing around a piano to provide either atmosphere or plot, you might as well make it interesting.

  • See Squeeze @ Greenwich Summer Sessions 2011 on July 29th in the grounds of the Old Royal Naval College. Tickets from greenwichsummersessions.co.uk...local boys back in town going to be AMAZING!!!

  • CHRIS DIFFORD at CITYSHOWCASE FESTIVAL 2011!

He will be hosting the seminar "SONGLINK LIVE CRITIQUE AND SONGWRITING"

" at the Apple store in Regent Street, London on the 7th of May

visit cityshowcase.co.uk to get the tickets!

  • 本当に素敵な曲です。

    素敵過ぎて、この時代すら良かったように思えてしまいます。

  • This is some classic shit man. I love these guys, especially this song.

  • this song brings back great memories of my youth. saw squeeze with elvis costello at rutgers in 1980 while still in high school. great show, great band.

  • I'll bet white people love this stuff.

  • @beowulven whats with the racist shite? believe it or not, colour plays no part in music and nor should it. I'm white and i love it, happy?

  • @beowulven lol eh?

  • @ghodium

    I mean, I am and I do.

  • Timeless song, peerless band! Tilbrook is a very underrated guitarist too. Love the solo here.

  • @doggymcnuggets Yes. Even better is that the guitar solo comes so early in the song, immediately after the first chorus. The element of surprise adds to the pleasure.

  • @misterbill999 Tomorrow night in Dublin Can't wait. Gig was postponed from last march.

  • @doggymcnuggets he is. he has a great tone

  • @doggymcnuggets played on the excellent Yamaha SG2000S....!

  • great pop song! it sounds like an old Beatles' song!

  • I saw this band towards the end of the 90's? at UCSD in the auditorium. There were only hundreds of people instead of thousands. My friend & I were leaning on the stage & being blown away. At that time it was the original 3 vocals being the keys, bass & guitarist. Never got into Squeeze til I wound up with Squeeze Singles which I wound up playing to death. The concert was GREAT & they stayed & bullshitted with the crowd for a bit. Fantastic experience & they ROCKED! A great memory, for sure.

  • Wow, I'd entirely forgot how good this band was. Who would've thought that even in England they made good music once. Of course those days are long gone.

  • Ok, I have played five songs from Squeeze back to back.....Starting with Hourglass. Firstly, why were they only a "one hit wonder" in the States? I am not sure if any members left? How long have they been playing? But, dang....They are GREAT! Also, I think....just a melodic hunch....Robert Smith and the Cure was greatly inspired by this band's sound....This had a "Cure" sound. Well, now I can say Cure has a Squeeze sound :) Interesting morning.

  • an eighties band with true musicianship

  • Some great bass lines here! Great band.

  • Squeeze, xtc and walkmans forever bring back the 80's the millenium sucks.

  • GREAT pop son.if you don't find yourself singing along with this while your toe is a tappin then i've got to ask the question what's wrong with you?

  • overall the pub was and is r and b rock n roll pop business so im not really against that but were going through a new age phase of business right now if we want to improve the economy for sure

  • I have seen better production values in snuff films

  • One of the catchiest songs EVER.

  • Who the F--- clicks "Dislike" for squeeze?!?!

  • @DonKissick1970: betting it's for the quality of the vid, not the song.

  • @DonKissick1970

    Some Wanker

  • @DonKissick1970 I bet it was my dad.

20 years ago he said they were "trying to do too much" in their songs.

  • @DonKissick1970 the answer to your question ... IDIOTS !

  • @DonKissick1970 Morons do lol.

  • @DonKissick1970 To "Squeeze" Your temper. Actually, No. If it doesn't do anything for them it doesn't do anything for them.

  • @DonKissick1970 Yeah Really!?

  • @DonKissick1970

Bieber fans...it's always the damn Bieber fans

  • @DonKissick1970 americans

  • @Theodorus5 To steal a song title from 'Babylon & On', 'Some Americans'. I've loved Squeeze since I heard them back in 1987.

  • @DonKissick1970 maybe they really like jools holland's playing? :P

  • @DonKissick1970 There is always at least one wanker in a crowd this size

  • They were a consistently brilliant singles band!

  • I saw these guys in Liverpool last week. Absolutely brilliant. They were supported by The Lightning Seeds who weren't half bad either. It was a real nostaligia trip.

  • @76juno where were they playing in Liverpool? woudnt have minded going- gutted i missed that opportunity

  • Hands up who's going to see them at Shepherd's Bush Empire this Saturday

  • Bass player looks familiar did he play in the pretenders too?

  • The way this song is written, arranged and performed is actually kind of hilarious. There's musical in-jokes and cocked eyebrows everywhere.

    "She made a call to a sym-pa-thet-ic friend-and-made arrangemennnnnnnnnnnn-nnnnnnnnnnn-nnnnnnnnn-nnnnnnnnnn-nnnnn-nnn-nnnts!" That's very silly.

  • Ah, Glenn's playing a Yamaha SG2000. Very guitar-of-the-period!

  • @MOTOPAC Hmmmm - I made an almost identical comment about this very same video three years ago. Where does the time go?

Who knows where the time goes?

  • @MOTOPAC Yeah, it found it's way into a lot of player's hands. They were great guitars, very well built and weighed a ton. I didn't own one, but played several in stores and shops back in the day. I'd most certainly play one today, they're still a wonderful guitar, kind of a "super SG".

  • BRILLIANT TIMES MISTEREVASION MUSIC,POLITICS STREET RIOTS GREAT DAYS

  • NOTE: near the end, watch Gilson kick down a whole pint in one swallow, then go "ta-da!"

  • @MOTOPAC Yeah, I saw that too.

  • Nice to hear this again. enjoy these post punk classics.

  • why dont they make songs like this no more :( x

  • I love it....my son loves them....AND MY GRANDSON AGE 15 has nearly worn out his own argbargy and greatest hits CDs..now aint that love/

  • One of the best songs ever.

  • i saw them live at belmont park priceless

  • OMG : Jools looks like a wee schoolboy!.

  • 4 people need a nail in their head.

  • Jools Holland...what a ham!

  • I DON'T KNOW ONE SONG FROM THIS LOT THAT I DO NOT LIKE......ALL CLASSICS

  • Jools Holland is such a legend :P

  • That lead guitar is superb!

  • Geo you couldnt be more correct

  • total gods

  • and here in the bar the piano mans found another nail through my heart!!!!!!

  • classic lyrics.......''i had excuses those little boy lies''...........fucking classic

  • If they'd only drop the damn synthesizer....totally dates the song; still, you can't fuck with the chords/melody and witty-not-too-witty lyrics

  • one of the best..feel good songs...classic!

  • just luv their lyrics...very catchy & witty!

  • impressive solo

  • Love the bit from 0:37 to 0:41 . Superb

But I love the rest just as much =DD

  • Must rebuy Squeeze greatest hits to replace the lost one. Will never stop loving this band.

  • God, I love Squeeze! Tillbrook is so cute in this video!

  • In case you don't know, the guy pushing the piano & playing the bartender in the bar scenes is Jools Holland. He has a show on the BBC called Later with Jools Holland.

  • Where are ya Madelaine?

  • nice yamaha Glen.

  • GREATEST POP SONG EVER, BAR NONE!

  • this is quintessential english music at its finest like the kinks, slade, the jam and madness

  • Sublime.

  • I grew up with Squeeze and tonight I will see them for the first time at The Rio in Las Vegas ... along with The Beat !!!

  • @AliveTonyMaggie a warm welcome from the uk. i hope you enjoyed the gig. i like you grwe up with their fantastic music. give me tilbrook and difford any day, song writers and musicians extrodinaire. over the years i've been fortunate enough to see them at many venues.,also at small gigs in pubs, i've had the pleasure to talk to both glen and chris as well as the rest of the band on many occasions, they are the most unpretensious guys you would ever want to meet, very approachable. take care.

  • @AliveTonyMaggie Lucky...

  • this is really slow?? its hard to listen to its been tampered with!

  • Totally underrated.. Saw this band in Newcastle 11th Jan 1990.. Been to loads of concerts but this very memorable!!

  • jools holland is national embarrassment...he just gatecrashes the video and the song...who needs his limited boogy-woogy piano anyway? he carved a worthless tv career out of pointless cameos with this forgotten (but interesting) band...oh - he's so zany! so he's like the bloke from cabaret without any talent....quick, let's hire him! i'm guessing he has the same agent as jonathon ross and ross's wife...

  • @uclrichard FYI Jools Holland was an original member of Squeeze for some years. He left to do his own thing around the time of The Tube.

  • fuck i love this song

  • 1:27 the girll dancing on his tie lmfao

  • Back in the day that was high tech!!

  • Quality!!

  • 0:52 yeah

  • Squeeze! Cool classic!

  • I agree Floob...I think his solo on Some fantastic place is top stuff as well..!!

  • Sure does bring back memories....Thank you!!!

  • such a classy band ...i miss those days ...

  • saw him solo live (glenn) great, sadly arrogant.

  • cool for cats and argybargy.. classic back to backs from that era.. thanks for posting this

  • God I love this band! My parents used to play their greatest hits tape in the car when I was little and I got hooked. They deserve more popularity here in the United States for sure.

  • i love this song

  • I am not a huge fan, but this is a great song, and as floober pointed out, a fantastic guitar solo (offered so unusualy early!) is a centerpiece.

  • The best Squeeze song. Thanks for uploaidng!

  • Squeeze, the most clever band ever. Giving new meaning to the phrase music and lyrics. Oh Yea! Argybargy blows everyone out of the water. Listen to Pulling Mussels from A Shell. Oh man these guys were so cool.

  • Damn, he was gorgeous!

  • @CanadianIdiot13

Very slick group, pros...Difford knew enough to put Tillbrook out front, where all the girls would get excited...But Difford wrote the lyrics, and probably a good bit of the music also...This said, Tillbrook had a great voice, played good guitar, too...The combination of the two voices and their two brains made the band what it is/was.

  • who are the 4 people who dont like this song? they are d-bags.

  • An absolutely great song by a great band.

  • Love that nifty guitar solo. Geez that great period from about 1978 - 1983. What can I say? Does anyone besides me wish they could just experience a mere shower and shave during that era just once again?

  • @MisterEvasion Yeah, I get the same feeling when watching the guitar solo to 'Family Man' by Hall & Oates. Such a great era.

  • @MisterEvasion Hell yes! Melodic rock pop is and was the best music to my ears!

  • @NickCobra me 2

  • @MisterEvasion >sigh< oh yeah

  • some of the last great song writers

  • me gustan, no tengo ni puta idea de ingles, jejejeje

  • great song

  • 2010 @the case was pulled from the shelf

Great Song. 25 years close or so. As beautiful as that time machine.

  • AHHhhh, another great song from my youth...what a sad commentary on today's musical production when we have to go back tot he eighties to find something worthy to listen to...

  • This song was released 30 years ago!

  • i'm behind the strength of the 80's. Generation x Wins again! Muahhaheart.

  • I´m with ya nils443, you can never tire of great songs.........I just don´t like to think of how many years have flown by since I first heard it.

  • I love this song! I have never seen the video but it was exactly like I thought it would be.

  • Luv these guys! PS I notice that my Limewire version is faster than this video. does anyone know if this one just slower than the actual song?

  • i dont know for sure, but im guessing this is the most well known and popular version because the video syncs up perfectly. plus this vid is from vh1 classic which would surely play the version people remember the most.

  • I had forgotten what a good solo that is. You don't hear playing like that these days. These guys were a step above.

  • sounds so much like E Costello and the Attractions...were they friends?

  • Was Chaplin one of Jools' heroes? It certainly seems that way from watching old Squeeze videos.

  • @dharmaseed

    Its glenn tillbook

  • I'm a little confused by your reply. I was referring to the goofy guy in the vest behind the bar, and also pushing the piano.

  • Loved it then and love it now. Never get tired of this band and this record in particular. Best thing is my son has inherited the same Squeeze taste....

  • My familys friend used to manage this band aswell as; Primal scream, Wu tang clan etc :) gr8 band x and happy new 2010 lol

  • reminds me of school ,first trembly fumble with my latest bird , cold winters , raleigh grifters , art teacher mrs jackson with the skintight brown cordrouy trousers , doing my homework last thing on a sunday night after thats life with wet hair just after a bath , having a hairstyle for the first time , a bird at school had a crush on me , not having to worry about a thing , long hot school holidays and thinking i would be rich and famous 28 yrs later.......well you cant have everything?

  • Great comment , love the irony and was around at the time that all that happened as well, lusting after chrissie hynde(pretenders) and Debbie Harry etc, wanting the coolest budget car ever at the time lol..The Ford Capri

Tke care we all had a laugh and then life got us M

  • Their best song ever, love the little piano riff at the end, and Jules funny face!

  • Yeah for about 5 years I used to play this every morning before school or work. Over 25 years later I still play this every week. This life these guys could write about your life without ever knowing you. See them about 18months ago really turned the clocks back

  • good song !

  • How much do I love this band?

I wore out 3 copies of "Argybargy" on vinyl, and I'm on my 2nd copy of the CD.

One of the greatest, and most overlooked, bands of all time as far as I'm concerned

  • Squeeze, Sparks, XTC all overlooked and underappreciated.

  • @Spartacus217

What do you expect? The MAJORITY just don't know what QUALITY is...

  • @Spartacus217 Glen's guitar almost looks like Andy's

  • theme tune in Jersey
