  • Women make better bassists..it;s a supportive thing! xx

  • You're really good. Now it's time to move up to the Who, and expand into John Entwhistle's universe of bass that, in my view, is light years beyond any of bass in rock. Keep rockin'. I'm in your shadow. Perhaps one day, I'll be as good as you. Peace.

  • Nice cover. I would like to learn this cover and your video helps. Just got a new Ibanez sr1200e bass to replace my Ibanez sr400 and this would be a good song to add to the covers I am learning. I read music but the songbooks often don't have the bass line and so it is nice to hear someone play the bass line where you can hear it and tell if your are using the right scale pattern. Good job!

  • I've heard a few other covers of this, yours is very interesting, love your timing

  • you rock!!! i'm inspired to learn this bassline now. such a tasteful line

  • Rip the audio from this song at thetunify doht cohm.

  • Good job. This song has a more complex bass line than the casual listener hears. It is one of my favorite pop songs of all time. The Grass Roots were better than than everyone says, despite all the personnel changes. I always thought they should have recorded this without the horns - the bass and drums carry the song along with the harmony. I enjoyed watching your performance.

  • Excellent. I did that song but I didn't do it as well as you. I should of practiced it more before I put it on youtube. I checked out a few of your vids. You're a very talented lady. Have you ever been in a band? Keep up the good work.

  • And in a pink shirt <3

  • This is masterful playing. Several people commented on lead singer Rob Grill's amazing ability to sing and play the bass line in this song. Well, he doesn't. Look/listen closely at his recordings of live performances. And Grill didn't even do the bass work on the studio recording. The famous "Wrecking Crew" bassist Carol Kaye is the artist on the recording.

  • @Max0nly Thanks for the kind words.

Although I admire Carol's playing very much,

I believe the bass line was played by Joe Osborne not Carol Kaye.

  • @Honda599Girl She is a great bassist and yes try G# twice, sounds better

  • @Max0nly I think the bass is actually Joe Osborn?

  • Lady you can really play. thats not an easy song to play. I am amazed the Bass Player sang and played that bass line simultaneosly. Good job

  • I'm in luv! Is that a wedding ring?

  • very nice cover! Do you still have this bass? do you like it? I'd like to find myself one...

    thanks

  • yup. i was right. you're HER alright.

    don't stop.

  • Very Nice!!! I love it!

  • wowowow, u r brilliant ...

  • Wow, u r brilliant ...

  • first and foremost, i love you! love the song and loved your performance.. after seing yours i saw other bass covers of the same song.. that's when i realized how good you are.. simply lovely. im going to watch all of your covers.. you have a fan in venezuela!

  • you smoke gal.........cpl questionble notes......but over all.........YOU ROCK

  • Wow. Nice work. Grass Roots Bass parts are a bit challenging in my opinion. A lot of finger walking involving. But, it's what gives them their sound. Hats off to you. =)

  • great job. Never gets old. Only wish I could play as well.

  • again- you sound awesome!! =] I tried learning this last week such a great bass line!! Alas, I failed as I have only been playing for 4 weeks....ha ha!

  • gotta love a female ball player......

  • Nice!

  • Great job!

  • Awesome sound, I love those little basses.

  • yea you play it really good im trying to learn it but its so complicated

  • It's about damn time I heard a bass cover of the Grassroots! Got "Temptation Eyes" anywhere in there? Wonderful job, lady! Thanks so much for posting this.

  • I have an identical bass!

  • you need to hit that G# twice for the intro. I noticed that you go from that note to C#, I know, I have been playing this in a cover since the 1970's. good luck.

  • Thanks radcam69

I learned this by ear, but listening to it more closely after your suggestion, I think you're right.

Two G#s and then go to D#, no C# in there.

    Good catch. Thanks.

  • yeah you're right, it was late, it should be Eb, or D# as you say. I do know the part you fudge'd. : P I'll post it later...

  • Oh yeah, I also had to fudge the part that goes,

"brings out a need in me that no one can hear"

I couldn't figure that out so I just made something up. Do you know how that part goes? Thanks

  • @Honda599Girl w/o ability to transcribe it for you here ; it's a D#m7 scale followed by a C#m7 scale played going down the scale but begin w/ the D# note played on the A string and then the D# an octave higher. The whole 2 bar phrase ends w/ the C# note on the A string. W/ that in mind you should be able to hear it on the recording.

  • @TheBassfresh THANKS!

That's it. I got it now!

  • You are a very talented bassist. Very good. And that is a cute pink bass too. hehe. :)

  • way cool!

  • It's obvious that she knows how to play the bass guitar and heard that song 100 times.

  • The transitions from Pre-chorus to Chorus are off from the original recording. Maybe it was intentional on your part, I don't know.

That part always messed with me as well because I always wanted to hear both descents as uniform and they're not. Its low Root then straight descent patterns on the scale.

  • ajptaylor,

    Good ears.

That's a part that I just couldn't "hear" so I just made something up. It does sound like a descending scale, but for some reason it messes with me too.

  • This is fun song for a bass player.

I used to like playing this in some bands that I was in.

    Hey Girlie, . . I have a request :

Hit me with your Rythmn Stick by Ian Dury and the Blockheads.

Has a lot of 16th notes, lol.

  • Your vids are great!

  • Amazing! You remind me of one of my former band mates. As the drummer I always had to sink well with my bass player to keep everything together.

Your sense of timing is outstanding! Sounds like you added some additional accents too!

  • Great feel and timing.

    Brava!

  • Very good!

  • very nice im in love hahaha

  • i have the same bass, even in the same pink colour!!!

  • OK, OK...You are definitely listening to and playing the right stuff. Go buy Jean Luc Ponty's "Tchokola". Don't ask. Just do it. Trust me.

You play bass and use words like "autodidact" too? I think I'm in love...(LOL)

  • Nicely done! I just learned this one myself, very fun to play.

  • You're insanely good, I second that! :D

I am very much enjoying your videos!!

  • Wow, well done. Its amazing that you're self taught, your insanely good considering. The bass sounds great too...

  • Thanks Blink182TD, I've always been an autodidact in a lot of areas of my life. I love learning things.

  • how long have you been playing bass for?

  • just picked up a squier musicmaster myself. love the sound you're getting here. what amp are you playing out of? any effects? thanks!

  • Hi ohnoandthetigerpit. (quite a name ya got there) I'm using a Fender Pro 400 amp with no effects. EQ is set flat so you are hearing the true voice of the bass. It's a fun bass to play. Hope you enjoy yours.

  • honda599girl... very nice. you have nice technique and great timing. I would play with you anytime. that song is not the most "accessible" (time and key changes etc) and you drilled it. if you can play that well in other styles you should work as much as you want..

  • and now play it while standing up, singing in a mic & without looking at the frets... ;) anyway, nice job on that one!

  • Excellent! This is one of my all time favorite songs. Do you know where I can find a tab for the bass line you are playing? Sounds really cool!

  • Thanks classrockin,

Sorry I don't have tab, I play by ear and just try to figure it out as best I can. I find it works best to wear headphones and loop the parts that I'm not sure of.

  • Hi Thanks for the quick reply, I play mostly by ear too, but after watching your video, I see that I am missing a bunch of notes. Maybe I can just get it down by watching your video several more times. Your bass playing on " I Wish" is really great too, another one of my favorites on bass as well. Thanks again!

  • Nice job! One question, did you play cello or viola prior to picking up the bass. I thought I noticed some similiarities in your style to an orchestra string musician's? Keep up the good work!

  • Thanks for your kind words alfreddy54.

I don't have any other musical background, I'm a self taught electric bassist.

  • Honda599Girl, Awesome job, you nailed this song! I'm amazed you're self taught. That means there is hope for me. lol! I've played for about 8 months now. I've taken a few lessons, but had to stop for economic reasons. So, I'm on my own now. Thanks for covering this tune. I'm very much inspired now!

  • She's good. Very good.

  • cool bass chick! the bass suits women more than any other instrument. i love your playing and i love the bass too

  • Thanks philip8893, me and my little pink Squire thank you. :)

  • You have a nice swing in your playing and handle the grace notes exceptionally well in all your videos. Bravo !!!

  • Thank you bassman

  • Nice job! Very lovely lady as well!!!

  • Thank You :-)

  • The Squire sounds very nice...you really groove.

  • nice playing and a great song

  • Thanks :)
