  • swoop swoop swoop!

  • cet air magnifique est un peu dénaturé par la traduction je trouve ...la beauté de la langue française par ces sonorités propres me manque dans cette version .

  • @54fanni et que dire de tous ces ports de voix inutiles...

  • !! QUÉ BELLEZA DE VOZ, ES UNA DIOSA !!

  • Thanks a lot for sharing.

  • Beautiful ...most unusual to hear it in Italian...it certainly takes nothing away from it but i do prefer it in French maybe only because i am used to it!

  • Was für eine Stimme!

  • Yes, this is in G-flat... down a half-step.

  • Exquisite

  • Very beautiful indeed, and in 1954 she had all the notes and could sing most of the pianissimi. Is it sung in a slightly lower tone? Ideally should be sung in French but sounds almost as good in Italian when performed by such a peerless voice. Both Tebaldi and Callas sang Wagner in Italian, La Scala staged Wagner in Italian in the old days, The early Met had several seasons of opera in German...I prefer MEDEA not MEDEE, DON CARLO not CARLOS, VESPRI not VEPRES, and GUGLIELMO TELL not GUILLAUME.

  • Very beautiful. Gorgeous.

  • O my God! i love her when i was 15----and now I'm 74 and i adore her!

  • O my God!

  • La Tebaldi è magnifica... in particolare qui è davvero grandiosa!

  • Beautifully sung and with such sensitivity. Still, it loses something in Italian.

  • I just hear this for the first time . Yes, she sings it like a young girl, falling completely in love. Its overwhelming love ! How beautiful ! Bravo !

  • @ Faust075 A FAUST75 VORREI DIRE CHE LA TEBALDI,DA QUELLA SOMMA VOCE CHE E',PUO' CANTARE ANCHE L'ELENCO TELEFONICO E DAREBBE LE STESSE EMOZIONI CHE DA CON MI CHIAMANO MIMI';POI PRECISEREI CHE FINO AGLI ANNI 60-70 ERA LA REGOLA ASCOLTARE OPERE FRANCESI E TEDESCHE NELLA LINGUA DI DANTE CHE E' POI QUELLA NELLA QUALE SONO STATE SCRITTE LE PRIME OPERE CHE NON A CASO SONO NATE IN ITALIA

  • @Faust075 and what, pray tell, is so terrible about singing La Traviata in German?

  • @Faust075 and what, pray tell, is so terrible about singing La Traviata in German? Listen to Callas'rendition of Kundry in Italian from her early Scala years; you might rethink your opinion. singing an opera in a language other than its original is preferable to today's 'supertitles' which distract the audience visually.

  • At the time this was recorded all Opera in Italy was done in Italian. La Scala did Wagner in Italian !!!

  • And by the way, I find Italian lyrics so very beautiful.

  • I have read somewhere that she sang French repertoire, some the entire roles, some only arias, but never in French, only in Italian. And by the way I am not among persons that are able to recognize when someone transposes, but even if she did, it still sounds gorgeous, as she was a great artist. And she had big vocal range, so I don't think transpositions were necessary for her, but if she chose to do it, who cares? This is sung so beautifully and with great romantic subtlety.

  • This is so hauntingly beautiful!

  • What are you saying Ben? This is the good key! But I'm surprise tho that she sings in italien..

  • fantastco

  • la amoooooooooooooo!!!!!!

  • What beautiful, beautiful, beautiful voice !!!

    The first day of love......

  • Louise en italien!!!...

  • well, Her pitch is rather low..but

  • It's not lower than original....

  • Of course this is one of the most powerful performance of this aria, but i find it really beautiful in this transposition. I even think that half tone lower could be better for this aria in Italian language... It suits her voice and language better in this transposition. To me it is just a new thing, that's all.

  • But this is half tone lower than original. And sher really sings in italian.

  • AND? What's your point? You think she's the only singer who transposed down? How about recognizing that you're listening - or in your case not listening to one of the greatest sopranos in history? Shit for brains.

  • Beyond words.

  • Exqusite, simply stunning. The power and beauty of this voice singing this aria - it's never sounded so sumptious and rich - BRAVISSIMA RENATA!!

  • Just about one of the best Depuis le jour's ever sung....

  • I also love Callas's version, both are great interpretation from the two greatest singers in the world.

  • nothing disappoints here. magnificent. the mix of velvet and power. the harmonics heavenly. awe.

  • A stunning performance.

  • @mrrk it is stunning. she brings to Louise a bel canto style its composer whould have admired. any composer would have given the world to have been able to compose dramatic music for Tebaldi.

  • "Io son felice, troppo felice, ed io tremo soavemente al primo dì d'amor." Indeed. Charpentier would have been the first to have fallen in love with this version, and this great artist. He began composing Louise in Italy, a contry he loved. This is my favorite recording of this aria; Tebaldi could have sung it in Sanskrit, as far as I'm concerned. Exquisite pianissimi, incomparable dramatic power, heartfelt sentiment... In sum, brava Tebaldi, bravissima!

  • I love you MusicaParola.

  • In THIS voice even this aria sounds heavenly....... Nothing compares...

  • Not even in French, but I can't say that's much of a surprise. Disappointing, although still far better than that HORRIBLE Fleming version.

  • Despite being in italian - it is exquisite.

    Great Tebaldi -

  • Did she ever sing in French?

  • The only french she sang was on her Christmas album - Silent Night, a part of it was in french.

  • How can you call this disappointing? Who cares if it is in Italian, from such a great artist?
