I know this sounds odd, but I have a weird feeling that Rachel Alexandra has an unusually large heart, like Secretariat and Seabiscuit had. The big hearts they had physically made it much easier for them to run hard: I would not be surprised if somebody in Rachel's line had the same condition, like Medaglia.

I like Tom Durkins call better. By the time this caller (whoever he is) says "cruising" the 3rd time, I want to smack his face! Can't he vary his vocabulary? Anyway, this version of the race does have its advantage because you see Calvin Borel patting RA's neck near the finish line... CUTE!

I wish people would quit wining about which horse is best. It doesn't matter. I've waited for 30 years for this. If you knew anything about racing history, you know it goes like this, just 1 great horse a decade, and then 30 or 40 all at once. It's happening now. Do you have 30 years available to wait for next time? Enjoy it, it'll be over all too soon. And ever since Ruffian, I've hated match races.

Totally agree with you -also, what people are starting to forget is that RA is just 3 yrs old - what this horse has accomplished is truly amazing. IMHO her tank was almost empty in the Woodward and she still managed to win under a grueling pace. She won it on heart and class.

I think RA had a lot left. In the Haskell on the turn inside SB, between Munnings, outside RA. Watch their heads bob, RA and SB bob at the same time, that requires them to be on the same stride. But RA is 20 feet outside SB, which makes her stride 24ft. SB with 264 strides runs a mile, & RA with 264 strides wins the Preakness. In order for MA to beat her, he has to stride faster. MA's head was bobbing 2x for every 1 of RA's. HE cannot keep that up and he did not.

@sagerider2, what is you opinion of Rachel's last race? I thought it showed what a grueling 3yr old season she had, I respect it even more now. So deserving of HOTY.

I guess she needed more time...Do you think she'll race more this year? I wish her camp would issue statements @ her, so quiet. I'd hate to hear she will be retired.

It simply goes to show, that even a great horse can have a bad day. Zen of course is awesome, but she only races on one track, you've heard of horses for courses? It would have been much more interesting if last year she had raced in the Louisville on KY Oaks day, but they scratched her.

@Tangospell1, your comment was 5 mo ago but wanted to say I enjoyed it. Rachel A. won the Woodward on heart and class, so deserving of HOTY honors. It is so wrong that some Zen fans on blogs continue to knock this race, "she didn't beat any good horses" First filly to ever win this race, beat older male horses. I hope she races again this year. Such an exciting horse to watch.

Zenyatta was in perfect shape and form leading up to the breeders cup. She had run all year long. Shes been off for a very long time, Rachel Alexandra on the other hand is looking like she is in great shape. But until you beat the best, you're not considered the greatest.

I personally think Zenyatta is a monster and john shirreffs need to get her going instead of Life Is Sweet.

This horse is a beast, but she is by no means in the class of Secretariat.

She is however, the best three year old in this country, and possibly in the world right now.

This is a monster filly, maybe the best since Inisde Information, but she has to prove it out! Until the moment she's untested, so we have to see how does she goes against the living legend Zenyatta. That may be the best race in quite a long time. Two champions, two untested femals facing each other, i can't wait!

Zenyatta is a one dimensional polytrack plodder...all Zenyatta would see is Rachel's considerable rear end....my god people, this horse is the female version of Secretariat...if you can't see this, you know nothing of horse racing

are you serious zenyatta just ran away from coco beach and was toying with the field and i think Zenyatta is a better horse and if you watch Zenyatta in person you can cleary tell that she was just messing with them

RA, however, sits with the leader, keeping the set pace and giving even more when the time comes. I don't think Zenyatta, a late runner, will be able to catch her when they really start to move.
