  • I think Ted did it. These are just Diversinary tactics

  • actually i may be wrong....

if we raise the standards by witch we live et minimize our impact on the earth i believe that human population will become stagnant et reverse

it is because we feel we need to procreate to maintain our legacy that we do . thus the more our legacy as a person is ensured the less we procreate .... just like any lifeforms

  • thts not entirely true.. dogs for example, have sex when ever they have it is favourable i.e. the male is potent and the female is in season.. similarly humans are also very much driven by our instincts and desires (ID) that are inherent to us as a derivative from animal ancstors, while some of us could possibly be more rational most of the times, we still tend o be horny, and procreate anw.. but anw, there are many other reasons for our procreation-affluence,peace,prolonging our legacy

  • Please. Show me your successes, not your failures.

  • My grandFather died of tb in 1933, It is about time we treat and cure this disease.

  • most are treatable man.. only this new strain isnt..

  • I get so upset when my internet connection drops meanwhile people are suffering in other parts of the world. We live in a bubble.

  • "We live in a bubble"

    We live in heaven.

  • Beautiful response.

  • The governments, plural, and medical administrations may have mishandled Antibiotic resistance- but to say they caused it or even worse designed it is just a sickening conspiracy theory without a shred of evidence. I suggest you learn some microbiology before you choose to speak so callously.

  • what is "XDR" ???

  • Extremely Drug Resistant Tuberculosis

  • This man is amazing.

  • At this point I am sure we are all aware that the biggest problem the planet faces is a certain very successful and adaptive virus-like organism: Human beings.

Culling the herd is always painful, and there are never any volunteers...

    And so it goes.

  • Life and death are unquantifiable abstracts. .A live body and a dead body contain the same number of particles. Structurally there is no is no discernable difference. The biggest problem that Earth faces is its overpopulation. With advances in modern medicine over the last century people now live way longer than nature had intended. To me, disease is just a natural way to control the population. Helping will not solve things. There is no end to this. Nothing ends, nothing ever ends.

  • "Life and death are unquantifiable abstracts. .A live body and a dead body contain the same number of particles."

Well... no. The moment you stop breathing, your body's pH starts to raise because your cells don't have any more oxygen, and this causes the lysosomes to burst, dissolving your cells... your body starts to liquify itself, which is kinda weird.

Sure, living things and dead things have the same type of molecules, but life maintains homeostasis. Dirt heats up in the sun, you don't.

  • thats how pictures can say more than 1000 words!

  • Now THIS is a TED speaker!

  • I always find it funny that "scientists" can understand the purpose of disease in animal populations and not in human populations. More money to be made I guess.

  • A better trick than "curing" XDRTB would be to promote sanitary living.

  • This photographer is hard core. If he's not risking his life in war zones he's taking shots of contagious TB patients.

  • Compelling stuff. I've seen this elsewhere, it's making the rounds of the web.

  • Unfortunately I think you're right. :/

We (humans) like to see the human race as something special and try to find a solution for everything. That's a good thing really but some things will never be solved. We fight hunger, we fight diseases, we try to make people live longer etc. At one point it simply won't be possible to feed the massive population anymore.

Every time we cure one disease another one pops up. Usually it's worse than the one we just cured. :/

  • Birth control can keep the human population down without causing undue suffering or potential economic instability.

And if you advocate social Darwinism, stop being a hypocrite and kill yourself. The non sequitur in your post alone suggests you're one of these "dub fuckers" that would have been taken out under a full implementation of that ideology long ago.

  • yea.. if we all adopted that mindset, the concept of society wll slowly fade away, because we have lost track of the collective wisdom and the virtue of interdependence for survival and is deeply rooted within our system in the society.. if they die, u quite possibly have a slowly decreasing chance of survival.. even despite a rapidly expanding population, if we were to distribute resources more effeciently and effectively, there is really no need for any lost of lives for ur so called 'balance'

  • @misjudgeme Birth control can help but will not solve the problem. Fuck the economy! I am sick and tiered of people carrying more about the economy instead of the wellbeing of people and the environment in which they live. In todays society if you can't make enough money from saving peoples lives then it's not worth it.

  • Interesting how the mainstream media ignores this but blows up SARS and Bird Flu.

  • That's because SARS and Bird Flu had the potential to effect us. TB is (or is seen as) a third world problem.

  • After one disease was eradicated we know that these are beatable.

  • This is a REAL threat to our way of life, not a contrived one like Saddam's WMD's.

  • wanna stop pandemics? make nato stop spraying you with aerosol aluminium and barium.

  • Suggestion: Ask for R&D grants equal to 1% of the war budget and/or stock market derivative/speculative trades.
