  • That's a beautiful tanpura, must be custom made. Maybe that design gets more resonance.

  • Great tabla !!!!

  • AMRAT HUSSAIN you are a diamond in the world of music !!!

    Carl.

  • absolute beauty. i had no idea dhrupad was sung in afghanistan also. i thought HCM wasnot popular north of NWFP. I was wrong and stand corrected

  • Masoodjan...besyar maqbol...dont listen to this guy..who is probably jealous b/c he has no video or anything to prove....most indians i know are jealous of others learning classical music....i hope you come to usa so i can see you in person....as far as ustad sarahang cristal???/he was a complete classical singer..there are lots of ustad that i know are very jealous of him...he was the best not b/c he was afghan..he was the best b/c he was a great musician...take your jealousy elsewhere...

  • Dear Humayounp, thanks fr yr appreciation. I know, most of people talk but they are ignorant, or jealous, or wicked. Music is not a private property, and needs many years of hard work. I consider myself as an eternal student, and I shall keep working.

  • Dear Massoudbhai I appreciate very much your efforts to sing Dhrupad but honestly you should go to India and train for at least 10 or 15 years from some master like Fahimuddin Dagar before you can perform Dhrupad before others. The great Afgan khyal singer Sarahang also took talim for many years before he performed. Please don't take my comment to heart or feel bad but there is a proper process of rigorous training to go through before one can perform Dhrupad. It is a very difficult art.

  • Thanks Cristalfl for yr comment, but 1 thing :no need to go to India. Now, most famous Ostads come to Europ or other courntries, and you can learn music according to your life. I work with Nirmalya Dey one of the best young dhrupad singers. I sing for 26 years. If U have pricize critics, tell me your level in music, and what is really wrong. And please show me your swar and laya, so that I can believe you. Please read also the result of my

tuner test : 99.6/100 and make the same if U can do

  • Dear Massoudbhai have you heard the shuddha ma in your marwa ( not once but twice when you go to the lower octave). Anyway my intention is not to criticize or disparage you but only to make a constructive suggestion. In my opinion it is not enough to take lessons in Europe if one wants to reach a professional level. But if you are happy with your music what can be better. I wish you the very best in your musical quest.

  • Please a little more, what can you say particularily about this shuddha ma in marwa, is it low ? high ? what can I do to improve it according to you ? Thanks

  • Dear Massoudbhai the first time you have accidentally used shudh ma is at 0.53 and then again a bit later. Marwa uses tivra ma and not shudhma. The bandish sounds ok since it is from the CD of RFD. The weak part is when you start improvising from 1.40. Improvisation must use all the angs of the raga and not just one or two notes. Your improvisation is also weak because you are concerned about counting the beats and checking how far you are from the sam. I am sure you will improve with practice.

  • very good answer : there is no shuddha Ma in Marwa. 2nd I never touch it in this vid. at 0.53 melody path is (D)mD with tivra Ma. sm time I go to GmD in karaj saptak. It is always difficult to hear because it is low frequency.Let it hear to anyone there is only tivra Ma. Maybe yr player is distortd or yr ear is wrong. 3rd improvise doesn't mean going quick in develpmnt; here is at least 6 parts of impro, and I go to all angas. sm time no need t imprvs. Do listen more dhrupad for at least 10 yrs.

  • haha.

    too funny!

  • Have you seen Ustad Wassifuddin Dagar's clips on youtube? He is quiet amazing.

  • It's rare to hear dhrupad these days. Thanks for sharing your video. I don't agree with Kabulay's comment, but occasionally your swar is suspect.

  • Dear zrahin, thank you for your comment. I am a 38 years student in music. And my whole life I would be a student and learn knowledge. If you know raag Marwa, please tell me exactly what I should do to improve my swar and in which note. Please let me hear how you play Marwa. Best regards.

  • The comment was not about your rendition of rag marwa but rather the swar. If you have access to a tunning device, sing the notes and see if you are within the frequency. I am thinking that the audio of the clip may be distorted. But one thing that does really stand out as a thorne is your pronunciation of the swars. You are almost singing it in a farsi accent. This is the exact relative frequency of marwa:

    S 1

    r 1.053498

    G 1.248331

    M 1.423828

    D 1.6875

    N 1.898438

    S' 2

  • Dear zrahin,

I made a test right the way, for the first time by singing Marwa's scale, without tanpura or any instrument, and without any preparation. And I placed a tuner in front of me : God is my Witness the result is :

    Sa=136,5Hz r=144 G=171 M=192 D=230 N=259 S= 273 I should Say : aboutXX Hz because the I could not read the numbers after the comma below 1hz. So globally, The ratios shall give S=1 r=1.54 G=1.252 M=1.4065 D=1.658 N=1.897 and Upper Sa=2

  • This is actually very good results because it's very difficult to get it 100% percise. If you got this result, then the audio quality is not for sure distorted.

  • Sorry I meant it is distorted.

  • Second part of "Tuner Test"

So as a conclusion, I am close to your scale with a precision of 2 for one thousand, except the Ma which differs by 1.4 percent

So if I could have a number for my exam, I should get 99,8/100 and 98,6 for my tivra Ma. So the average shall be : 99.6/100. So I am very happy of this result, God be blessed and, may He take any misplaced pride away from me.

  • Third part of "tuner test"

So I thank you for your theory, please can you tell me how you got this scale, in which book ? It is very interesting have exact measures of raga's tuning.

But I think practice and ear is better than beautiful theories. Please let me hear how you sing and how you play Marwa.

As to pronunciation, I shall send you a recording one of my venerable Grand Masters Ostad Fahimuddine Dagar. You shall hear, how he pronunces the words.

    Best regards

  • I am a good listener of ICM. The information about the swars has been published by Haresh Bakshi a prominent figure in ICM. The information regarding the pronunciation, is not referring to the words of the banish but the actual pronunciation of the S r G M P D N S. This is very typical of 99% of all Afghan singers. Even your Farsi ghazals have some other accent. That's just my observation. In any case good luck and may God bless you with your musical aspirations.

  • Be sur asteen saib.

    Haife azi rag...

  • O kabulay, ma ke sawyéta didom ke karaoke ra ham khanda namétaani, bessyaar khanda kadom. To ra heetch gharaz nees ke az sor gap bezani.
