  • The Cerpin taxt didn't have a true friend.

  • I miss this lineup so much, Jon Theodore is amazing.

  • I prefer Snyrf the Volpen Piss't.

  • tab for the bass part at the beginning anyone? :F

  • I love this band

  • pretty fuckin amazing, my favourite track from them..

  • Juan should do stoner sludge

  • Why the people in that moving rectangular picture thing play so damn good?

  • Oh man, when they go into Take The Veil at the very end, it's awesome.

  • if i'm correct cerpin taxt is a recreated persona of a late friend of the band. i've looked into very little but the story on which i tripped on is heart breaking..... i'm a new fan of "the mars volta" and i'm a latin piano and conga player (go puerto rico). But they have opened my diverse third. Thnx for posting it

  • I love that when Cendric starts screaming at 2:38, the drummer, the keyboard player, the bass player, they all immediately start looking at Cedric hahaha. Pretty funny

  • Juan is a freaking BEAST!

  • They could make the fucking intro into a song and i would buy it.

  • Why not analyze the song? It has a lot of meaning to it. It's not my problem if you're so thick-headed that you can't pick up on it. This isn't your video so stop trying to take ownership of who says what about it.

  • makes me wonder if a lot of this is improv before they get up to their song :)

  • @90FirstGenPGT Omar says that most of the time when people think they are improvising live, they are really playing a part of a new song

  • awesome intro!

  • When this concert ended, the audience didn't know what the fuck they just saw. All they know is that their ears got raped, and they liked it.

  • If I ever see these guys play live, I think I could die a happy man.

  • I wanted to sleep, but thought it would have made my night miserable if I had not finished listening to this.

  • only 11 dislike out of 594 people. That's less than 2%. Gotta love Volta.

  • tripping with this jam , would be just simply orgasmic !

  • @sipues21 I can assure you, it is. As soon as the vocals enter your head and stay there, it's over. In a good way, you know :)

  • @WhenWorldsCollide91 jaja yes i know. iIve seen them live twice , neither of them high , so next time i'd probably smoke some good shit just before they perform ;)

  • this band defy belief. amazing. jon theodore is a fuckin legend

  • @Pyroskatin Its like hes trying to troll, no good.

  • i still can't believe this is just a jam, so good.

  • I want Omar's guitar!

  • My balls are shakin

  • Why u fucking comment bout? theres nothing to say, TheMarsVolta Kings, and fuck Justin Bieber.

  • only a fucking nazi cunt would disable comments

  • the vocals in the intro jam are completely mind blowing

  • its great to see singers improvise too. anthony keidis should have done more improv with the chilis, it makes jams sound like songs and throws another 'voice' in the mix. This is one great jam at teh start of a great track, take the veil is my fave volta song

  • @Seagerash While Keidis is a fantastic frontman, he simply doesn't have the vocal range as Cedric. As much as I love the Red Hot Chili Peppers, you have to admit that Anthony's vocals have always been very limited. That's why a lot of their songs are in the same key, because it's the easiest one for him to sing in. He's gotten better though. Just my opinion though.

  • @chrislarson15 Yea i agree man what you said makes sense - pretty much the whole of californication is in A minor! Going through a heavy mars volta phase at the moment tho and loving it

  • don't disable comments, the like to dislike ratio shows what really is up!

  • Jon Theodore = GOD

  • what album is this off?

  • @ardvark181 deloused in the comatorium

    great album.

  • 2:38 Holy volta how does Cedric do that?

  • @IonsAgo - yeah well smd lol.

  • @IonsAgo the afro, it knows all and sees all.

  • somebody has to hear Led Zepplin in this....

  • @walkabout990

i see it too in omar and cedric

  • Goddamn it do I miss the old TMV :(

  • @jandl71598 new mars volta is good to mate /:

  • That guitarist must have been born out of tune, horrible!

  • @kranen1 this is called Indie experimental rock, you're the one thats out of tune.

  • @Alas07X But still, you have to stick to the key of the song?

  • @kranen1 nope...everyone seems to be enjoying it aren't they? :] , again not everybody likes how some things sound so to each his own...right?

  • @kranen1 Omar's a really complex guitarist. He takes a lot of risks with his playing, but I'd say most of the time he gets you to BELIEVE that what he's playing is within the key.

    Which is...baffling.

  • @kranen1 You don't know the first thing about music if you don't understand what Omar's doing with his soloing, and you shouldn't be watching this band if you think you have to stick to the key when playing

  • @TheFallen86 Hahahahahaha, did I hurt your feelings? ;( Sure you can change the key but it's best to stick to the key the rhythm is in! I just don't like when it is out of key, it doesn't sound good. Anyway, the guy is sloppy and his technique is very limited. You can make that up with great feeling, phrasing and vibrato though, but this guys don't.

  • @kranen1 fuck anyone who thinks this sucks.

  • fucking amazing

  • R.I.P Cerpin Taxt

  • @Clownpwnage17 ugh why'd u have to say that :(

    thumbs up though

  • @iZeali probably because cerpin taxt was the name of the guy that deloused was written about and this song is about his death.

  • COMMON MAKE IT BLEEEEEEEEEEED!

  • COMMON MAKE IT BLEEEEEEEEEEED!

  • your right comments are the gayest part of this website

  • this concert must have been mind blowing, great jam.

  • The keyboardist (ikey) seems really into it, too bad i cant hear nothing coming out of those keys...

  • They need to make a song using the guitar riff that starts around 3:25

  • @dadipoli no they cant that sounds like a million diffretn things

  • their keyboard player makes me smile :) he seems really jovial over there

  • So beautiful. It brings tears to my eyes.

  • Best band out there period.... And I miss Jon. Can you say reunion!!!

  • this is the best thing i`ve ever heard... :)

  • that jam was pretty good.

  • Sickness...

  • absolutely addicted to Mars Volta!

  • OMG, that is one of the best things iv'e seen/heard!!

  • OMG, that is one of the best things iv'e ever seen/heard.!!

  • Sounds like someone on a bad acid trip trying to piss razorblades... ie doing my fu*king head in!

  • this is part 2 of 1

  • They really need to turn the keyboard up.

  • seriously the best perfomance ever thanks for the video

  • Makes me think of some kinda modern Led Zeppelin!

  • Viva Juan!!!

  • omar is god

  • jon theodore is so good at drums

  • In my opinion, this is the best recorded performance The Mars Volta ever did.

  • i forget that a band is making this sound. its like space just threw this on the earth and said enjoy. I am so glad the mars volta happened. Music is indescribable. Thank you.

  • i actually forget its a song...its like some kind of sounds spawned out of space. I am so glad the mars volta happened. Music is so lovely and without it, life is just awkward silence.... thank you.

  • the end of this song i think is TMV's single greatest moment. both live and in studio. it's so fucking epic and perfect.

  • Great video, great band. Hope next drummer is awesome like the last 2.

  • Not sure why this doesn't have over 1 million views.

  • Jon is a legend.

  • my GOD! i could listen to them all day...when is a live dvd coming out?

  • GOODNESS JUAN IS AMAZING. my fav bass player fa sho.

  • @legitstuff couldnt agree with you more!!!

  • amazing!! as always

  • thanks volta for the magic

  • I would sell my soul for that fretless bass.

  • I don't know what all the hate is about, I recently went to a TMV concert in December and Cedric's vocals were absolutely amazing. Everything sounded perfect, totally life changing experience. I was even lucky enough to catch Juan's pick.

  • @n1ggalips Such truth. Anyone who has been to a show knows how amazing Cedric sounds. I saw them back in October and it was a great show. Most YouTube videos completely BUTCHER TMV's sound, especially Cedric's vocals.

  • GOD DAMN.

  • i love this performance and t m v gives me chills, love cedrics voice

  • how can you even contemplate trying to analyse this

its just a great performance from a great band

    nothing to it.

  • THis vid is an amazing potrait of where they were! thanks to emilamirian for the post!

  • @emilamirian

i agree about the comments. i use this as a default video in my profile, listen to it from time to time...

    great jam and performance btw..

    tnx for the upload,

    cheers

  • im about to disable comments..people need to stop talking about bullshit trying to analyze a fucking song and just enjoy the goddamn video

  • Comment removed

  • @emilamirian - hey smd !!!!

  • juan sets the mood perfectly, getting every clapping then with cedric coming in, omar setting of quick solo. this is epic. this is the type of jam that would make pink floyd grow a big rubbery one jizzing all over the floor

  • I can't get enough of Juan's bass at the beginning

  • Comment removed

  • I disagree with that last comment.. they are back to this setup I do believe.. at least they where when I seen them in September.. But yeah they are even capable of even more now.. their skills can only get better not worse!!

  • I always get a little sad watching videos like this, they're not capable of stuff like this anymore, that jam was as good as rock music gets.

  • wht do u mean by that ?

  • you must not know what funk is

  • I do in fact play guitar, and I do play bass as well, and I've been playing the guitar for about 6 years. I can tell you right now that the bass is probably one of the most important instruments of a band besides the drums. I mean I'm talking strictly rock and funk, of course there could be bands without bass, but what do you think provides the rhythm? Just because something is easy doesn't make it boring. You are musically a dolt, and I'm sure most will agree.

  • Thick as a Brick. 100% agree.

  • I also can easily make the argument that a band can easily live without the guitar. Just imagine a ton of your bands without bassists. Imagine MUSIC without bass. Pick up a bass, and try it sometime. It's not a guitar. Play like flea, play like Bootsy Collins, bet you can't do it. It's not about complexity all the time, and I'm sure Omar Rodriguez Lopez will knock on your door and agree with me on that one. Take a lesson on groove, and than come back with an argument.

  • Gave me chills! 5/5

  • Words cant even describe how amazing this single piece of footage is.

Ahhh, I fucking love The Mars Volta

  • Babies on fire

  • The Music of The Mars Volta/At The Drive In/ Sparta

is pure Sex in my Ears... for real !!!

  • Take the Veil Cerpin Taxt ....also known as Juan and Omar's psychedelic freakout!

  • im not even worthy to listen to this song it is to powerful!

  • Ikey is my master.

  • ahh god juan's bass intro made me jizz my pants

  • Just imagine to be there...

  • I would had a rage fight w/ everyone on my side.. hahaha

  • I'd just groove...! ;)

  • Flea + JonTheodore: swing filled goodness wrapped in musical tits of the goddess of music

Juan over Flea's lines + Jon Theodore: lamentable

    3:28:

    BABIES ON FIRE!!!

  • that voice is so unique..

  • i think is a modular synth maybe some moog

  • Ikey gets fuckin down!

  • an absolute classic.

  • How does Juan make the sound at :28 a with his bass? it sounded "watery" for lack of a better word.

  • i think he just presses the wah pedal down and releases it quickly over and over again

  • He quickly rocked the wah with his foot, in a spasm sort of way. Works well with a clean guitar sound as well.

  • I don't know, but I think a lot of people don't know how much of a sick bass player Juan is.

  • He did play with Racer X, and that's with Paul Gilbert on guitar, Juan would usually shred on bass with that band, check out videos, he's so amazing at bass!

  • they should let juan do more bass solos and cedric's vocals are so on point in this video.

  • seeing them at T In The Park in 16 days! cannot wait, its unreal the energy they give in their performances

    x

  • What pedal is the bass player using in the beginning cuz its pretty tasty.

  • im guessing here, but it sounds like an ultra wah mixed with a big muff distortion pedal.

might try that out some time :D

  • I could see that. Buckethead's bas player had the same sound on "bucketheads toy store" at mishwaka. Love it.

  • i think hes using a big muff and a dunlop bass wah (thats just me) :)

  • Best TMV video on youtube!

  • does anyone know what ikey is saying?

  • "Uauauauauaua" ? :D

  • He's singing "They don't plug these keys in" to the melody of "Raindrops Fallin on My Head"

Omar sucks right around 5:00. Everything before that was better than the album version.

  • he starts to hit some off notes, but i think he rolled to be purposefully dischordant.

  • you mean disonnant, small correction. =)

  • Fucking ending kicks ass. The jam was pretty awesome as well. Hopefully will get to see this live some day.

  • i love this song on the cd..and its even better when they jam live!!!

    sick!

  • i love the thrash part a 2:28

the mars volta are beyond insane, beyond talented, beyond all that is, was, and can ever be

  • my favourite of theirs at the moment. I'd love to see them live

  • saw this when i was pissed and stoned off my box in Manchester, it was confusing to say the least. What a tune though, its just amazing.

  • this song is genius....

    .... genius

  • LSD before a Mars Volta concert and im surprised you're alive. funny though. very good stuff

  • wow wow the bass line!! it's god!!wuaoo!!

  • Love the base intro!

  • Most amazing concert perforemance ever!!!

  • This band is taking over my life. its a pity i will have to travel thousands of miles to see them perform.

  • TMV !

  • stop fucking around putting tags on the music of TMV they are symply rock performed with soul, blood, sweat, tears, flesh, and mostly with brains!!!!, that's what really matters, of course they have influences, but hey someone have been listening the new album??? (The Bedlam In Goliath) well, they are no very jazzy, or not so salsa, they are just some sort of experimental rock (and that is a fucking tag.....dammit) well, stop discussing about it and enjoy this music.......

    I Love Juan's bass!!!

  • you're right, the fact that there are influences of other styles is undeniable but to focus on the influences does short to the music :)

  • Babys on fire part.....so badass......is it Eno? Is it Marc? or is it Cedric?

  • I just now found this band and listening to them for the first time here on youtube. Apparently they've been around for awhile?..I love their style. They kind of have a 70's feel, a hint of zeppelin but a unique sound all thier own...

  • yeah i was just being an overthetop arse. i just hate this show because it was the replacement broadcast for their northsix show....and...well i dont even want to go to how legendary that is.

  • Wow, love that bass sound!
