  • but , I know how to run dd-wrt and auto ap :) on any wrt54g

  • hey i got a question. i have a Linksys 54GL with dd-wrt i believe its the full size one instead of the micro firm on it. anyways im going from Cable internet to qwest DSL where im moving too. am i going to be able to use this router with it? currently the modem through qwest is a action tec with usb and ethernet only hope you can help thanks!

  • @captainmcduche hello, you can still use the wrt54gl, but i think you will need a dsl inline filter, they should include that with the install, plz sub and stop back for help with your router.

  • Nothing interesting in this video! The important thing to know was , can I setup this device like a repeter without to connect this device by cable (RG45) to the AP from where I want to boost the signal?!

  • @dalv086 WIRELESS wrt54g-tm by linksys routers boost power? I dont kbow wut your doing with wire ,, but may be be you should stop before you hurt your sef ,,,lol , this is a electric device that qualified ONLY people should work on,, your late tard.

  • @dalv086 You didn't catch the point mate ! :)) The point is I DO NOT NEED any wire ! If you really dont have nothing to do , just to post on YT videos , at least post something good, not rubbish! And the wire you spoke about , you can take It and hang It on your neck! :))

  • @dalv086 heres the point you pikle smooch , this video is almost 3 years old, and you talk @ss, you obviously know less about routers then the average monkey can operate this dd-wrt mod router wrt54g, but you are here because you dont now how, lets face it, the last part of your comment is a question of skill.? but may be be you should stop before you hurt your sef ,,,lol , this is a electric device that qualified ONLY people should work on,, your late tard.

  • Hello! Not sure if anyone wants to help me, but my Linksys wrt54gs V7 has worked great over the years. However, it started to slow down and cause my internet to go very slow. When I disconnect, and only use my modem, it's fast again. Does anyone have and advice?

  • @btmonje hello, you r modem may be spoty, routers set up by me run properly 4 years. how can i help you ?

  • the older linksys wrt-54g have more ram than the newer ones ( ver 1, ver 2,ver 3)

check wikki, i think they cut it back on ver.6 , i`m currently running Firmware: DD-WRT v24-sp2 (09/26/10) std on an old linksys wrt-54g ver.2 , 16 meg of ram) I toasted a wrt-54g ver.2 router by trying to over clock it to 225, but it was an old router so its hard to say for sure, but i havnt tryed overclocking since..i had the power up to 200 at one time, but the error rate climbs with power. 84 is perfect

  • @jorgy63 hi, the 16meg memory area on the wrt54g is for the system a not usable for storage. The page link in the description explains.

  • @ROCKNTV1 your right, its 16 total, 4 meg of flash ( a standard build is about 3.7 meg) and then with version 5 they dropped it to 8 total, 2 meg flash, ( you need to use a micro build) ..i flashed a version 5.5 with a micro build and pretty much everything is still available except next to the site survey button i noticed the Wiviz survey button is gone, and possibly a couple other minor settings most people dont need or even understand how to use anyways,it pretty much looks exactly the same

  • Cool. Not having stability issues is good and all. But I'm worried that if I set the tx power on my wrt54g-tm too high, it'll fry. I already bricked a regular wrt54g because I set the tx power too high. Does the tm model have better capabilities of heat dissipation? What's a safe setting for one of these that's kept in a room that gets pretty warm during the daytime?

  • @kimsta21 I would say you must look at your needs,, a good rule of thumb for any device that has a radio, is use only as much power as you need. PLEASE look RATE and SUB my other recent videos on overclocking the wrt54g-tm router and the heatsink mods. Running autoap with dd-wrt uses very little resources. So I guess the question is how is your wireless quality now?

  • @kimsta21 We'll that explains why mine just died. I cranked Tx all the way up and minutes later it wouldn't even turn on

  • @pspheaven i`ll bet you tryed the same thing with your car stereo and got the same results..LOL power isnt everything guys. your radio signal will distort and degrade if you push it too hard, pay close attention to the error rate and adjust accordingly. some quick research on google will tell you 84 milawatts is about perfect for these radios ( yes its a radio) if you want more power check out the new Buffalo routers, they have built in pre-amps and will push alot harder with no distortion

  • 240 mW for the tx power? is that safe for the wrt54g-tm?

  • @kimsta21 hey man thanks for stopping by,,, the wrt54g-tm has a wireless out put that tops @ 251Mw under dd-wrt firmware. Honestly, the umbrella part was a joke, but running the autoap mod on this linksys at these power levels has shown NO stability issues ,even while overclocked , at least during my testing. THX 4 stopping PLZ SUB check out my playlist on these routers.

  • I WILL BE GIVING AWAY SOME OF THESE ROUTERS SOON PLZ SUB CHECK SITE IN DESCRIPTION

  • hi there i need some help plz

i have a d-link 615 and i installed the latests version of dd-wrt and wot i want to do is repeat mt friends wifi so i can get better signals in my house which is encrypted

    so i ran this command

    nvram set autoap_prefssid="my_net*key*abcdef1234"

    nvram commit

but it still dint work even thou i put is wep key there.

wot am i doin wrong plz is there something else i need to change as well in settings

    thanks

  • @beni2009uk sup, dude, honestly i know not much on that router, but DD-WRT is the same, so , I am making a video on this subject to be explaininjg at the site in the description.. PLZ SUB.. DO NOT run autoap for the config you are trying,,, because it is trying for strongest sig. Instead use the wifi security tab and set your wep key there.. set the router to auto or shared key, you should be all set. Thanks for stopping. ps I would appreciate feedback at my site, I help you there, SEE DESCRIP

  • @ROCKNTV1

thnx for gettin to me bro i only installed this dd-wrt not long ago and to be honest im not that good with it wen it comes to using it. ive been trying all night and today to get this thing workin but still cant manage to get it workin

i sub in youtube and will do the same on ur site.

can u give me a bit more details how to set up this repeater thing plz mate its driving me mad lol thnx

  • @beni2009uk K .. I would love to have this convo over at my site I am sending you a link in messaging. )

  • @beni2009uk Take your time check out my page there... sorry about the navigation .... me fix.. leave your

questions any time, I will get to you

    Thnx john@ROCKNTV1

  • @beni2009uk i struggeld with that for 2 weeks trying the instructions from wikki..everything they said was correct except for one very important thing.

in order to run in repeater mode the subnet has be be different than the one your trying to repeat. every stock router is set to 192.168.1.1 set yours to 192.168.2.2 then set your static DNS to 192.168.1.1 check the box that say assign Wan port to switch, Wan connection type (auto DHCP) STP disabled for COMCAST. to work with router.

  • can you tell me what the best TX power settings should be ? i want to get the most out of my router but i dont want to shorten the life span. i have mine set to 100, stock being 71 i think. my cpu is clocked to 216, it seems to be running just fine, im just trying to boost the range that i can send a receive, maybe pick up some out of home networks ;-)

  • @lilkuz2005 sup.. k i have been running mine @245 tx ... but this will not help with the receive end of things. Your best bet is only use as much power as needed to transmit the repeated signal thru out your house. As far as the receive goes you can check MY wrt54g-tm blog link in the description for the hi gain antennas they are pretty cheap , I have a video on these if you would like tpo see them check out that page ..

thanks for stoppin in plz sub

  • HELP MY PLEASE!!!!!!!!! I have the router wrt54g but it doesnt want ot connect. it is saying "cant connect to linksys" i already reset it like a thousend times but it doesnt want to connect a few days ago it worked fine. i dont have a cable that connect the router to the pc cause i use the wireless adapter wusb54g HELP MY!!!!!!!

  • I see what you are saying and got the point. Good job.

  • thnx man , a little pat on the back every once in a while goes a long way. I have made a blog on this router , the link is in the description I will be spending more and more time there answering questions ... thnx again..

  • I want to set up autoap to take the router from place to place. Should I be using repeater or repeater bridge mode as mentioned in this video

  • the bridge function allows the lan to operate from the repeated host, with out the bridge the lan would be down.Thankx

for stopping by , if this helps Plz sub, if you need more info check the page i build for this router ..... link in description

  • Thanks I will check out your page, quick question, will i be able to set up repeater bridge with AutoAp mode for open wireless connections or would that not work because I do not have acess to the host router

  • hey i just got a 3g mobile broadband 1 mps im asking you please to give any advice i should be aware of! how to make it fast is it possible that it can be used as a tracking device

  • spookyyeah

i'm sorry , are you talkng about a phone? ..or netbook lappy?

  • No boss, it's a white Usb like thingy that inside is a sim card called 3G 1 Mps

  • ok

i believe the device you have plugs usb into a lappy or computer to act as a phone, (some new netbooks come as embeded) , and will connect it to a 3g cellular network for which u will need a subscription to their service. 3g is the network , 1mps is the speed ... If this helped plz SUBSCRIBE

  • what the different between wrt54g/wrt54gs/wrt54gl

  • adiyakuza

    please sub

check this video description for link to detailed info on you question

  • Hey whats up I set up my wrt54g-tm in autoap mode and it works. But now I cant access the routers settings. How do I get back in. Thanks

  • hello ENYPDE

Your initial setup of the router to have a

ip address and subnet of its own is critical

to access the router during auto ap operation as your connected computer is now takeing DHCP from the host router.

I recommend that you that you set up the SES button to turn off the radio when you need to make changes, this can get complicated to operate as depending on your network needs ,multiple static ip s

on you computer makes this easier to do but more to learn.

    john@ROCKNTV1

  • do this bring a set up cd ?

  • after linksys firmware has been replaced

you must use docs for the firmware you are useing which ever it may be, DDWRT

OPENWRT TOMATO are a few , these are online only . I suggest you start reading there. To use ANy of these I would classify

as ADVANCED USER , and a basic grasp

on router functions would be an advantage, i will make more vids for this catagorie ,subscribe and you will see them first ,, thnx for watching

    john@ROCKNTV1

  • my real Q was does the linksys router comes whit some kind of set up cd when you buy it new

and i would like to replace the firmware looks more useful

  • YES ,

a linksys set up cd and docs.

  • thank you now i know cause i got a new wrt160n but that cd set up is for ppl who are limited on computers i dont need that i can do tthe set up useing the router ip and can do much more then what the cd lets me do

  • your welcome rob

NOW can you help me figure out how to make these comments run from newst to oldest as i dont know where the settting is?....lol john

  • to tell you the truth i dont think you can do that i never seen anything like that and i been useing youtube for about 3 years sorry man if i find anything out i tell you

  • Does how is it compare to wireless N i need help dont know what to get.

    thanks

  • N is the new standerd ,and i am useing

DD-WRT firmware for which this model

can handle the MEGA version. I outline some of the reasons we use this model

in my wrt54g vs wrt54g-tm vid. N routers

are the fasters wireless transfers but fewer models accept the firmware and

variouse other reasons including the cost

of a new N router to chance a bad flash.

Newer models are less likley to have upgradeable external antennas which is huge in the realife usability of ANY wireless device.

  • whats up rockntv how you doing i have a router like yours but its a gl but the biggest problem most people that try to setup the bridge or the repeater they have the same gateway so make sure people that you dont have two 192.168.1.1 or the like k also rockntv you need to be part of the wifi robinhoods

  • layedbackkustomz

thx man , yeh i always make my subnet

like 10.0.0.x because autoap finds open ap s and fillis in the rest for you.... what i have noticed is that not all routers you may connect to use 192.168.1.1 ,,

some use that for wired lan and range 2.1 for wireless. hook me up on your roben hood club deal and SUBSCRIBE

    john@ROCKNTV1 :-)

  • please SUSCRIBE ROCKNTV1 I spend more time with people who CARE to watch my vids and i might even make you one. john / drums
