This happened to me before. I knew from watching discovery channel that the last thing you should do was to throw water in it, however, being in the situation itself really makes your mind blank and it made me throw water at it. Fortunately, I only had minor burns.
Advice: 1.) If there's snow outside, throw it out there.
2.) If you happen to use Kosher Salt when you cook, (which you should), just dump a bunch of Kosher (rock) salt on it. It goes out.
2.5) Instead of using a towel or something flammable, just use the lid to the pan for god's sake. Make sure it seals it and blocks any oxygen to the flame.
Latest advice from the Fire Service is to not try and put it out - turn off the heat if safe to do so, but definately get out and call the fire service.
Too many people are injuring themselves using the tea-towel method - it just isn't worth the risk
@DiEx80 which is understandable.Im just sayin Physical science states Grease and water never mix therfore i just say its something usually people know.
@jeffgordon524 Yes and you are right... Problem is: When people panic they tend to not think at all and end up like the lady at the end of this commercial...
Hence why the phrase "Don't Panic" is so true. When you keep calm, things like "not pouring water on grease" will be the first thought.
yhea in that situation use a. fire extinguisher that use's foam b.fire blanket .c. just run the heck outa there into the front yard then duck and cover and call 911
@themasta3 I don't think you would be the one judging if you got mutilated by a fire. And by the way I'm sure she already knows that she looks disgusting. I don't think she wants to here it from other people too. It's not like your not stuck looking at yourself in the mirror everyday wishing that you had done something different. This PSA wasn't made to focus on the woman's face, it was meant to teach you how to prevent this kind of accident.
I once had a chip pan that caught fire - grabbed a tea towel - ran under the tap until it was wringing wet and then threw it on top of the pan - I couldn't believe it as I watched the towel dry out and burst into flames ! In the end I managed to put it out by putting a large pan lid on the pan and left it until it smothered the fire ...
I started a grease fire in the kitchen once. I was standing there gaping at it stupidly. Luckily, my mother saved the day by putting it out with salt (which she keeps by the stove at all times for just that purpose).
Or just put the pan lid on and smother it.....or put baking soda on it....or use a dry chemical fire extinguisher on it.....need I keep going or do you get the point?
THEMASTA3: see why its better to be positive than negative. you made youself look like a blazing fool by talking about how ugly the woman was and you mised the point of the video. Bless your heart.
Sorry, I meant to tell the rest of the story, but just got too tired. The second fire was at my apartment-not the same house as the first. I grabbed my portable phone as soon asI knew I was in trouble. I also grabbed my 5 favorite dolls-normally a no-no, I know, but these dolls are like "family" to me. Then I ran out of the apartment, where I ran into one of my neighbors. I alerted him to the danger, and he alerted everyone else in the complex, so we all got out without any injuries.
I've been through a kitchedn fire. Two, actually, but I've only seen one. The first happened in 1979, while me and my family were n vacation. A leak in a gas line in our old gas stove ignited the pilot light. Luckily, we were all out of the housde at the time. Repairs to our house took almost 6 months, and tracking lost inventory for insurance took almost a year.
The second was about 31/2 years ago. I was trying to deep-fat fry some chicken in a pot in my apartment, when the grease I was using caught fire. I was using old grease, and I do not have a deep-fat fryer-two BIG no-nos!! I grabbed the fire extinguisher, and my first thought was, "Now how do I work this thing?"That's when I realized I was in trouble.
I called 911, but they were having trouble locating the apartment, because I kept telling my mailing address, which was different than the emergency address at the time. This problem has since been corrected by the village. The fire department finally got there in time, and put out the fire before alot of damage was done. I stayed with my parents while my apartment was being fixed. I was finally able to move back in after about 10 weeks. It was an experience I'll never forget!
One thing I certainly did NOT do was throw water on the fire! I knew better than that! At least THAT part I got right, even if I shouldn't have been trying to "deep-fat fry" anything with no deep-fat frier and using old grease! By the vway, the chicken was a total loss too!
I think he threw gasoline instead of water.
I know, the water will spread the fire and is a terrible idea, but come on...

hey what's the women about amean why does she say the effects can be devstting and whhys eveyone felling sorry for her I don't get it
hyean4 3 years ago
Its because she never learned how to put out a kitchen fire.
Why do you think?
gyneman 3 years ago 3
@hyean4 Throwing water on an oil fire splatters oil everywhere, covering the pan and anything else nearby in flaming oil.
The woman looks like she's a burn victim, implying she tried to put out an oil fire with water, and got seriously burned from it.
Basically, "Don't throw water on an oil fire. I did, and now my face is covered in burn scars. You don't want a burn-scarred face."
