  • Some time ago, the communications & signaling media was changed to fibre-optic, which is buried under the road-bed (no telegraph wires or poles). I believe the UP went for (mostly?) micro-wave communications.

    I think.... some sort of low-tech back up would be wise, but IDK how they do it.
