@gomezianprince Before the age of music videos, you could get away w/not being easy on the eyes, especially if you were in a group. Your talent/voice made up for it.
Damn, I miss real music! Chicago = All Time Classics! (Loved the harmonies that Peter & Bill created during this evolution of the always changing never failing CHICAGO!)
I too, have a hard time understanding why people like Lady Gaga & Justin Bieber make all sorts of money with very little talent, while creative & talented musicians & bands like David Bowie & Chicago are largely forgotten. Those are two acts that have WAY more TALENT than even a million Lady Gagas & Biebers many times over!!! It's sad, but painfully true.
Bravo, Chicago! Thanks for continuing to entertain us after all of these years!
Yes, Peter Cetera & Bill Champlin made an excellent vocal tandem! It's a shame Peter didn't remain with the group not too long after this video was made. He had put in a total of 18 years with Chicago. Bill put in 28 years with the group. The vocal tandem of Cetera & Champlin lasted just two LPs - "Chicago 16" & "Chicago 17". This was Chicago's best song during the '80s!
Look, I was born in 1978 so I grew up in the 80s and early 90s. I know saying this may be a stretch, but I think Rihanna, Britney Spears, Maroon 5, Christina Aguilera, Lady Gaga and Katy Perry are keeping the spirit of 80s and early 90s music alive today. Each decade has it's own classics and timeless gems. You just have to listen hard enough. And I think the 2010s are off to a pretty decent start if you ask me.
One thing about Chicago which adds to how awesome they are was in transforming from a late 60's 70's era band that produced great music to getting incredible hits in the 80s as well.. Many bands simply died in the 70s failing to make the transition as music changed but Chicago certainly did not!
@ChicagoKid1969 I love both Peter's and Bill's voice. I associate both voices with many of their songs, and they will both forever represent Chicago to me. :)
Would someone please explain to me how garbage like "Justin Beiber" and "Lady Gaga" are making all sorts of money with no talent, yet classic music like this is all but forgotten?!
Gorgeous, prophetic song.. I used to hear it on the radio and only actually HEARD it for the first time recently and can't stop playing it. Thanks ChicagoKid1969 - your videos have helped me through some really rough times. Cheers.
ok seriously, for such a sentimental tune.... is he really singing to the funky looking chick in the first few seconds of the video? Looks like she stuck her tongue in a wall socket.
@WingitMan27 Especially since Bill Champlin is now officially out of the band (since 2009). Although Jason Scheff is a good singer, he's not quite @ the level of Peter Cetera or Bill Champlin. If Chicago can land a young singer with an excellent range to compliment Scheff's vocals, the band could go on for a longer time still.
@ChicagoKid1969 - this has got to be one of the best vocal compilations they have. The music is simpler than other Chicago tunes, but the vocals in this song really highlight strengths in the band. The vocal syncopation in the end really kicks, or at least I think it does.
Amazing how this music was made in 84 and could still be a current hit on radio if released today, they piano breaks in the bridge are phenomenal, love it.
Peter's Time is Great.. fabulous voice.. I like Peter. But Jason Scheff voice is incredibly amazing also when He sang this song also. See and hear for yourself. Also the Will you still love me sang by Jason Scheff.. great song and great voice.
A timeless classic. This song ALWAYS makes me end up in tears (I'm not ashamed to say that as a man) because it reminds me of the only woman I ever loved when I was 16 years old & I've never got over her even to this day & I turn 40 in November.
@GisherJohn24 It's getting better in some aspects (and compared to the 90's) but yeah you are right. But I think the next generation of artists will revive the 80's sound (if they are smart).
You could put together a great band made up exclusively of people who used to be in Chicago (unfortunately not including Terry Kath, of course)...call it Urbana maybe lol
Im only 20 years old and i think that the 80's was the best decade for music. Its soo much better then the shit they play these days. By the way this is a great ballad, the tall dude with the blonde hair has got the best voice.
I have loved this song since I first heard it as a teen. The shared lead vocals, the seamless key changes (F Major to Ab Major to B Major back to F Major -- who does that these days??) and two measures of the most incricately complex chord progresions ever seeen in pop music (right before the 3rd Pre-Chorus). Just gotta love it!
i have very special person in my life and i am puttin some thing before him and i want it to stop or i am goin to lose him and i don t want ot and i have been put this before along time now and now i need to do some thing before i lose the one man who does love
chicago 17 is a brilliant album beautifully produced by david foster who arranged the songs and played keyboards on many of the tunes! he also co wrote stay the night and please hold on to name two ! this was written by steve kipner who co wrote Physical for Olivia and John parker! some excellent players on here like mike landau and paul jackson jr on guitars and richard marx singing backup with donny osmond on we can stop the hurtin! something for everyone i,m sure!
@Sociologist66 - The fact that 37 people gave your comment the "thumbs up" is testament to the fact that there are still a hell of a lot of people who still appreciate decent music in a world where music has been devalued and a generation of young people have been deprived of the chance to gain values from their musical idols. Somehow, somewhere, music died and all we can do now is rely on the past to entertain and inspire us in the now. I know that sounds sad and far too profound but it's true.
