I still don't get why Ron taught at a public school? He was my English teacher, funny guy but did he teach me anything? I'm pretty sure I spelt "taught" wrong!
tism where a metal band that couldn't manage to get the numbers so after a gig they went for a few beer and noticed all the kids listening to pop music. One of then said"this is what we need to be playing" and another said "I wouldn't be seen dead playingpop music" The other said "Well...wear a mask!" Then it got serious mum.
Sadly the industry outlasted TISM. It was touch and go for a while, it did look like the industry would collapse of it's own accord and TISM would outlive it through the power of sheer indifference, but sadly no.
However, while he was with them for a long time, he was the replacement for Leak Van Vlalen, who had been their guitarist for nine years prior. So, it's possible to replace the guitarist again. Buut for moral reasons, it probably won't happen. Not that it really matters to me. I live in the UK and they came here once, 11 years ago!
I've always enjoyed TISM's thoughts on football and the characters/thugs that played it. That the Graham Arthur (Hawthorn captain of the century) anecdote is true I believe.
I copped an accidental boot to the head from Ron Hitler-Barassi boot as he leapt into the crowd once. I kept dancing, lest I be called a weak bastard.
its funny, how many ppl dont know who they are, but when you play their music, they know the songs. TISM are a ghost to the popular, and a bastion to the followers. their music is truely unique, no other band i have ever heard, makes sounds liek TISM. they are lyricle geniuses, music masters, the yare, AUSTRALIAN LEGENDS!
These boys need a frigging hall of fame, all to themselves. As fellows on Venus time, I think we all have to be humbled by their presence. I think we need to stop being so goddamn self righteous and thank john that they have come to our country.
TISM are old school "new-wave" post punk...stuff. I dunno. They're fucking horrible but you can't help but love em. The Living End used to be pop-punk/pop-rockabilly but now they're pop.
By the way, punk isn't always left wing and thus anti-army,there are right wing punk bands. The Living End are a-political as far as i'm concerned.
I think you will find TISM never tried to be entertainers to begin with [& they know they are shit]. Forget so-called Aussie "punk" bands like The Living End [who played to our invasionary force in Iraq - the cunts], TISM are the only true Australian punk band.

I was at the gig where the footage of this was filmed.
By the way, you won't see them play again. Unfortunately the guitarist died.
If you want to see a spin off band have a listen to Root and see if you recognise the voice.

Where are they these days? We need another injection of their healthy cynicism.

lol, c'mon people it's funny.
ps are they *really* split, or just taking an (indefinitely) long break? What's the status of Root re: tism!?
Andybaby 3 years ago
TISM are unlikely to get back together as their lead guitarist Tokin Blackman passed away earlier this year of cancer.
Root! played a gig recently in Melbourne to promote their new single "Get up yourself"
