I am curious how traditional the music is (not the words). The most interesting Eeqa' effect in this music (e.g. 1:36-1:41) exists in the work of some lebanese singers from a very long time ago and I am just wondering how old this song/music is.

This is the music of Torbate-Jam an old town in Khorasan which its ruins dates to 300 BC,song & music are in Shoor /Nava Dastaghah,Barbod a court musician of the Sassanid Empire & the most famous of court musicians, conceived a musical system consisting of 7 royal modes (Haft-Dastgah),thirty derivative modes,& three-hundred sixty melodies, Music in Iran can be tracked to Elamite Empire ,Zartoshts gath & Soroods with melodies of Avesta chanted/sung, not much know about that period.

Sadly, Musical activity was suppressed during the first 100 years of Islam Invasion, but in Abbasid dynasty and later on, Iranian music reestablished at courts, Iranian musicians were scattered throughout the Muslim world. Abu Nasr Farabi, whose Kitab al-musiqi al-kabir laid the foundations of the musical tradition of the core Muslim world, worked at the royal court in Baghdad. Avi Sina, Safiaddin Ormavi, who codified the mode into twelve divisions with six melodies also lived at this time.

But then again when social power for the next few centuries was dominated by Shiite clerics who frowned on musical expression, musical activity was suppressed(ironically the same as the first 20 years rise of Akhoonds after 1979 revolution) The imperial courts of the Safavid & Qajar dynasties did patronize the arts, however, maintaining a faint link to the traditions of the past. The modern dastgah system, a codification and reorganization of the old modes, dates back to the late Qajar dynasty.

In fact, in the early stages of the Qajar Dynasty, the usul (rhythmic cycles) were replaced by a meter based on the ghazal and the maqam system of classification was altered to the radif system which is used to this day. Today, rhythmic pieces are performed in beats of 2 to 7 with some exceptions. Many melodies and modes are related to the maqams of Turkish and Arabic music.

Later on, Pahlavi Dynasty brought with it an intense push towards westernization. In response to this pressure and in a misdirected effort to "raise" Persian music to the level of Western music, 2 theories on the intervals and scales of Iran music were proposed in the twentieth century. Iranian tribes of Kurds, Bakhtiaris, Azaris, Lors and khorasanies have done a lot of work on Iranian traditional, Folk & classic music, this variety has gifted the music spice & beauty & heart penetrating.
