in the mid eighties our school got it's first PC.....it had a disk drive like CD's but they were the size of dinner plates!....lol...now I sit here listening to my favourite tunes...while making a video of my own for youtube......it's moments like these which remind you how far progress can move in your life......then i hear this song and it feels like yesterday....... : )
I think I heard her without noticing it was her many many times when I was younger. When I grew older I got to know more about music and she suddenly stood out as an individual. Her songs and voice are indeed very captivating and they always surprise me.
Suzanne Vega's delicate vocals rate among the most haunting talents of the 80's. 'Marlene on the Wall' - one of her most progressive tracks - is a platonic reflection of the times that many can relate too. Here she delivers a performance so subtle and enriching that is the trademark of her work. From a troubled beginning Suzanne flew like a phoenix from the flames of destruction to soar high within the clouds. Captivating
Suzanne Vega plans to play in Tel Aviv. If she does she is a monstrous hypocrite. She sings about abuse and gives aid and comfort to an apartheid regime of war criminals and mass murderers. BOYCOTT ISRAEL. END THE OCCUPATION. DON'T PLAY IN TEL AVIV
she writes beautiful songs, beautiful lyrics and sings and plays them beautifully, she's really quite a complete artist, what more do you want, compare this to some of today's conveyor belt crap
back then...my sister was just back from sydney and she told me she saw suzanne vega performs live there, she brought this casette...suzanne 1st album...i listened to the album and i have been loving suzanne vega music since then !!! :-)
I saw her in Toronto during the same tour and she opened with Marlene as well. It was my first time seeing her live and the show totally exceeded my expectations. Her albums are amazing but hearing the songs live gives them an added dimension.
hi! thanks! i'm glad you liked it! i do not have any more songs, unfortunately. while i was recording i was kind of stressed that suzanne was giving me the eye and that my camera might be taken away by security. so sorry! hope the show in MI was a great as here in MN!
@giofabman1 hmmm, what a good buddhist, I love Suzanne's music, but you cannot get away from the American greed and selfishness no matter how hard you try. Never mind, just another disillusionment to add to the stack.....
It is simply not possible to dislike her songs! I can listen to her all day.

Anyone notice the Electric guitar player loose it in the first few bars of the song.
SV seemed unphased by this and he recovered later!

If this song were a woman I'd marry it. Love at first hearing, when I was sixteen. Thanks for posting - was there ever an official video?

My oppinion is this is one of the very best Vega songs ever, if not the best. Great live rendition of it by her the day before yesterday.
Profound lyrics though - because of that, I'm not sure I could stay married to this song for long. Even so I think I could love it for what it is.
