  • Sure looks like its been left in the sun too long....In 15 years Ive seen other manufacturers develop blidters and even seen hot springs crack, bet Ive never had a problem with cal spas acrylic blistering.I did have a coleman spa left empty on a sunny hot day and it did develop blisters...not the manufacturers fault though! Oh and what a joke reguarding caldera venting the motor heat AWAY from the spa...what a waste of heat. With the correct ventelation in the cabinet, that heat can be well used

  • This is caused by leaving an empty Cal Spa in high heat and direct sunlight. They are not designed t be left that way. It is a molded product, molded by heat. Think about it.

  • BRAND NEW Caldera Spa if you had a blister issue. Guaranteed! Trust me, I had delivered about 5 new spas this year alone that were warranty replacements. There aren't many videos on YouTube about crappy Caldera Spas! Bottom line, spend less money and get a REAL hot tub!

  • ...yourself a REAL spa that is reliable, won't have leak issues, that is by far the most comfortable to sit in. Think of it this way, if you had the opportunity to buy a brand new Mercedes for less than the cost of a Chevy Cavalier, would you take it? Of course you would, because you know even though they will both get you where you want to go, there is a huge quality difference that the Chevy can't touch. Oh and just so you know, if that had been a Caldera, they would have given you a....

  • ...and we sell them all the time for around $10k. No other tub on the market can compete with what this spa can do for you. GUARANTEED! By the way, earlier I mentioned Caldera spas and Hot Spring Spas as the top 2 brands out of the hundreds of different ones out there, well they are made by the same company and they sell about double the amount of spas per year than their next closest competitor which is Sundance. So, my point is, stop looking at buying these cheap knock-off spas and get..

  • ....they have the most efficient heaters and circulating systems on the market. They are the Mercedes of hot tubs. You can get the most luxurious, comfortable, and one of the largest spas on the market for $11,000 or less. So for anyone who thinks they are getting a good deal by spending $10k-$20k on a Cal Spa or Arctic Spa, or any of the other generic spa brands out there, you're not! You are getting ripped off. Check out the Caldera Cantabria. It has an MSRP of around $12k-$13k and at...

  • Cal Spas are crap! They are generic. They have the same components in them that 90% of the other brands out there have. Most brands are the same parts they just design the shell to look different and slap their logo on it and thats it. Just an FYI though, no spas manufacturers will insulate the front compartment that houses the heater and pumps. The equipment needs to breath and your tub would burn up if the front was insulated. The top 2 brands on the market are Caldera and Hot springs...

  • Thank you for posting this. Very disheartening.

  • based on your video and all of the horrible reviews of Cal Spas on the web, i will not be giving them the 11,5K i was about to write a check for last week. its a shame becuase they do seem to have the specifications i want.

to the person who said, who cares about the blisters just fill it up with water i woudl say, who cares about the 10K just give it to me for free! he paid for a blisterless spa and should have one.

CalSpasDefects did you win your lawsuit? how much did you get?

  • Thumb s up if you just watched How it is made swim spas

  • I have a cal spa and made a video too. i will never ever buy from them again. you can see mine here....

    youtube.com/watch?v=3_xKr3jbpJA

  • Cal spas have been rated as the worst spa's to buy. Just look online for all reviews and costomer complaints and they pop up by the dozens. I would consider thermo spas or Enless pools or Master spas if you are in the market, because the track record speaks for itself.

  • wow that spa has some serious issues, and to the guy saying to get a coleman spa, CAL SPAS makes coleman spas im a coleman spa dealer :) i have done tours of the cal spa plant and how the spas are made im really suprised too see this.. when i watched them made they were done top notch..

  • And why didn't you just have it repaired or returned under warranty?

You are supposed to cover them. They aren't to be in direct sun.

  • And why didn't you just have it repaired or returned under warranty?

  • Are there other options? I've had my CalSpa for 6 years. I've had plumbing issues, but that's about it. I just had a pump fail, but after 6 years, that doesn't shock me. I'm wondering if there are other brands to explore. I'm not going to replace mine for a few years (hopefully).

  • @theblizzardlover I would recommend coleman spas. They make swim spas and regular spas, I've had mine for quite a while and love it. It's a very luxurious brand and they put a lot of effort into their tubs. So if you end up switching to a different brand, I recommend coleman :)

  • Oh no, blisters! Who cares? Thats what you get for picking a god awful shell color and texture. Fill it up with water and you will never even notice them.

And the cracked wood and insulation... again, who cares? You don't have the panels off of your hot tub unless your looking for problems to point out. Its not like one day you will be sitting in it and all the wood will snap and you will fall into an abyss.

  • No follow up video?

  • i have the same exact hot tub and im having the same problems

  • I have to agree that a LOT of spas are built this way. What you don't see is covered by the pretty cabinet. Basically, the spa builder should honor their warranty and fix the spa. They won't rebuild it, likely, but they should fix it.

If you don't get satisfaction from the manufacturer, be sure to see the dealer. I am sure that $10,000 of your money is in his hands and he should be taking some responsibility. If you are not getting results, have your lawyer write them a letter!

  • I had the same problem with my spa bought in 2005. My spa is the same color than yours and it's a 12000$ value. CalSpa won't understand nothing. The problem begin in spring 2009 with some bubble in the finish it looks like rust on a car. Very disappointing from a company. i don,t think they will be in business for long.

  • I had to weigh in on this video...I've been in the spa business for 20 years. The blisters on the surface and the leaks are the only issues you have that are legitimate. Everything else you mention is ridiculous. Staples? Cracked wood? Hardly any insulation by the equipment? These can be found on nearly every spa out there. I'm sorry Cal Spa isn't treating you right, but this is WAY overboard. There isn't supposed to be any insulation by the equipment for example...it would overheat.

  • @thescrapperone

The blisters look like solar blisters, considering how many there are and the fact that they are all over the place.

Cracked wood, that can just happen with wood in general. But screws that completely miss the wood? That's just sloppy.

Insulation wise, many spa makers cheap out on insulation anyhow. Pick your manufacturer well. So far as no insulation on the equipment end of the spa. They can still insulate the SHELL behind the equipment. Still open to cold air for equip.

  • Wow...I've had my CalSpa for 5 years and absolutely love it. Have only had minor repair issues, which were easily resolved. Was thinking about upgrading to this unit. Definately rethinking this. Did they make this right for you?

  • My CalSpa came with GE electric motor, about $250 motor. Look up rotating switch on a search engine, SGE114536, and notice it cost $93 for a mechanical part that broke cuz the center plastic end broke allowing the weights to swing out too far and and almost ruined the electrical cap @$63. Something tells me these dirty rotten scoundrels were planning of making money of replacement parts just as much if not more than the original sale. USA=Choas

  • Americans deliberately ripping each other off. A high paid Chemical Engineer is responsible for the plastic material. My diverter valve pipe end shrunk & the cap then slips off blowing out water. The Chemical Engineers know of how to make things last based upon TIME so that when the time is UP is goes right to poop. That means even if you don't use it it wears out right after the warranty is up. Ever since late 1999 new inventions cost u more $. The real recession they never told u about.

  • oh hell no thats not right u needa get those mufukkas and set they asses on fiyahhh!!! u shud be relaxin in that shitt not going thru this... oh noo

  • Spending time in a jacuzzi is one of the best things for couples. I am looking for spas to recommend for my clients. When I saw this video, I knew I could never recommend CalSpa. Please check out Sundance Spas for something much better, and from a much better company.

  • Is this over time or did you get it this way? I do not not see why you would even let them install it like this. And this spa is covered in full for 5 years.

  • man, i can't believe something that poorly done is out in the market.

  • WOW this is the price of a CAR that should last a long time!! I expect a value that is far worth getting the product and having it be a LEMON!!! if the lemon law would apply to high end products like this one then Cal Spa would be ashamed of delivering a product that is not working in the initial hookup --- BUYER BEWARE OF THIS SPA!!!

  • This sucks. You should get you money back and all the money you spent to put it in.

I will tell all my friends to avoid this company.

  • I need a large swim spa for programs I run. This was my first choice because of price. There is no way I will get this now.

If you have a suggestion, please post it.

    Thank you,

  • Pretty negligent craftsmanship.-Yikes...hard to believe they charge so much for a poorly made product.

  • You SHOULD get your $23k back! Ridiculous.

  • I can't believe that it's actually taking this level of following up to get a refund. I know where I WILL NOT be buying a spa from int he future...I hope more people see this before thinking about buying from CalSpa int he future. Good luck with getting everything taken care of!

  • Hi Scott and Lavender, the defects on this spa are truly outrageous. The problems CalSpa has caused you are unconscionable. The really bad defects are shown toward the end of the video clip, and therefore people may not stick around to see how bad this really is. You may want to upload this to a BBB website, or a consumer advocate website, also. Good luck!

  • That's shocking! I just googled them too and it looks like you're not alone in this experience.

  • This is shocking! I am so glad I saw this as I have been thinking about purchasing a spa. Unacceptable that they have not stood by their product and made amends for this. So sorry that you have had this difficulty.

  • OMFG.

Thank God I found this first. What a piece of crap. How do they live with themselves?

I will forward this for my contractor friends...

  • How can this be sold to anyone? A broken piece of equipment? There's no quality control apparently.

  • appalling! Thanks for the warning. CalSpa Should be ashamed.

  • This is terrible. I have been looking for a spa for a while and had been considering CalSpa. I did some extra research because of this video. Check Ripoff Report and forexlandscape for other's experiences.

  • Wow, that's crazy. Looks like an old used spa you'd get for free off Craigslist.
