Sunday Silence was good enough to overcome Pat Valenzuela's awful ride and win convincingly. In spite of his jockey's mistakes, which included banging into other horses and swerving needlessly to the outside while approaching the finish, Sunday'Silence proved he his was the best horse on this day.

This was a very green colt who was so full of talent. His greeness was on display for the world to see. Yet in the preakness,he looked as though he had grown up a ton.

This day was the start of the greatest 2-horse rivalry, and IMO, the only rivalry that has ever come close to matching the Affirmed - Alydar rivalry. Like Affirmed and Alydar, Sunday Silence won more races against each other of the two, but Easy Goer did beat Sunday Silence in the Belmont. Then went on quite a roll of wins before losing the 89' B.C.Classic to Sunday Silence.

Absolutely, Easy Goer was far superior than ss at any distance over 10F. At 9.5F in the Preakness and 10F in the Classic, Day's typically atrocious riding(also see Sky Classic,Turkoman,Java Gold,Forty Niner,Menifee,Heavenly Prize,Seeking the Gold,Paradise Creek,Surfside,Banshee Breeze,etc) cost him by a nose and desperation neck vs. an also great in ss. BTW: S.S. WORKED the fastest TWO-TURN mile of ALL time: 1:33 2/5 under wraps.
In 1986, Melair (a 3 y.o. filly beat Snow Chief in 1:32 4/5) who had won seven of eight. It was the third fastest of all time behind Dr.Fager and Buckpasser.

Easy Goer, here we have a horse with record speed(1:32.2) abilities at a mile and shorter distances,and a thoroughly genuine and amazing stamina to run the second fastest Belmont of all time,and run some of the most historic races won by many Hall of Famers at every distance,8f,9f,10f,12f, and Pat Day rode him with "kid gloves and baby hands", rode him awful in two outs to get him beat a nostril & desperate neck. Pat Day? He got dominated when he rode in California, New York and Florida, he won all his jockey titles in the midwest in Ky and Arkansas. The Pincay,Cordero,McCarron,Stevens,Velasquez,Eddie D's, schooled him. Pat Day one his ONLY Derby one his home track with Lil E Tee when A.P. Indy had to scratch the morning of the race and Arazi had double knee surgery and one prep in England on grass at a mile for it. The only one.

SS gets killed and destroyed by Easy Goer in the Belmont by 8, loses a GRADE 2 to Prized, loses three times at Hollywood Park in his life, loses to Criminal Type giving LESS weight away than EG had to give away to him, and his own jockey still and has always stated that Arazi was the best horse he ever rode.

I have said it before, Easy Goer was far superior than SS at any distance over 10F. And in the Preakness at 9.5F and Classic at 10F, two atrocious rides got him beat a nose and neck, but over a funky, peanut buttery muddy Churchill track, both Is It True and SS were better than EG.

Clearly the reason for EG's loss was that PAT DAY was doing a rain dance shortly before the race and the track turned up sloppy/muddy- which gave the advantage to SS. SS was the better horse on this afternoon- end of story. STOP BLAMING PAT DAY FOR ALL OF EG'S LOSSES. EG was a brilliant horse when everything went his way, but SS was game each and every time he ran- no matter which track, distance, the track condition... and SS NEVER was worse than 3rd. can EG say that?? no!

That is correct. It wasn't a bad ride. Nobody has ever stated this was a bad ride at all. This is just a jockey beating a horse up with the whip and him shying from the whip and crowd and him knocking into other horses. A bad ride was when SS got beat in the Swaps stakes.

Sunday Silence was good enough to overcome Pat Valenzuela's awful ride and win convincingly. In spite of his jockey's mistakes, which included banging into other horses and swerving needlessly to the outside while approaching the finish, Sunday'Silence proved he his was the best horse on this day.

Easy Goer is not alone in being a legend who didn't win the Derby, some were due to that quirky Churchill surface, some not. Damascus, Holy Bull, Easy Goer, Skip Away, Point Given, Native Dancer, Unbridled's Song,Afleet Alex, Risen Star, and many others.

Easy Goer could handle sloppy tracks, as he did in his Woodward and first start as a four year old. but he simply could not handle that Churchill Downs slop in his two starts there in his career. That Churchill Downs slop is completely different, a clay based quirky track.

Heck, Pat Day, a little more than a year ago, did the Breeders' Cup Legends tour with Cordero, Pincay, etc, and he was asked about it and STILL says his "totaly pilot error" and very bad ride got the better horse, Easy Goer, beat. If I saw him, I would agree with him. Lol

Easy Goer could handle sloppy tracks when he won the Woodward and his initial start as a four year old, but he just hated that clay Churchill Downs slop and mud. Well, there have been some great horses who lost the Derby, Damascus, Easy Goer, Point Given, Holy Bull, Skip Away, Afleet Alex,Curlin, Native Dancer, some didn't handle the Churchill track, some did.

@EASYGOER4LIFE Well thats a change from what most of you always say! Could it be,EG's loss in the slop in the Derby had something to do with SS? Oh yeah I forgot you will wail it was Churchill,but all I have to say on that is the fact that SS had to run on it as well. The fact that it was run in 2:05 indicates it wasn't a fast track,wet or dry!

This day was the start of the greatest 2-horse rivalry, and IMO, the only rivalry that has ever come close to matching the Affirmed - Alydar rivalry. Like Affirmed and Alydar, Sunday Silence won more races against each other of the two, but Easy Goer did beat Sunday Silence in the Belmont. Then went on quite a roll of wins before losing the 89' B.C.Classic to Sunday Silence.

The video does not lie DOC Livingston BE109! EG is clearly a 1/2length behind Diamond Donnie with 6f to go, and with 4f to go, he is at least 2 1/2 lengths back! The video shows that, does it not? DOC

In fact, go further than that black kettle. After watching the race, don't just tell me if I am wrong, tell me how many lengths back EG was with 6F to run in the Gotham, and how many he was back with 4F to run in the Gotham! You tell me your answer after watching the race.
