First time hearing this song was yesterday, while driving my truck through West Virginia. As a NYC/Cleveland native, I mostly listen to Hip Hop, R&B and Soca. This song is too funny. I'm a fan.
I tell ya what I ran Wolf Creek Pass an never saw a power pole one ,however I had seen a couple a flat racks make a mistake, you run that grade at 45 at most
The unmistakable smell and taste of burning brakes hangs heavy in the air on the 7% 8 mile descent. The 'Kitty Litter' escapes are well used on this hwy by drivers that forget ' gearing down'. The Colorado Highway Patrol uses their high altitude aircraft often to 'control' speeders.
This is funnier if you've ever actually gone over Wolf Creek Pass. You know its a real doozy when there's not one, but actually several trucker classics that at least mention it. I went over it in mid-June one time. The 18 feet of snow at the top was interesting to say the least.
Really got a kick out of hearing this music again. Lyrics are fantastic, funny as hell, & I could listen to it for hours. In fact, I have spent several hours listening to these video songs, this week. That C.W.McCall is a great comedy writer. Nothing else can compare to it. Is it possible he could be 83 now? What a great guy.
I was always partial to "There Won't Be No Country Music" or what it's called. It used to give me the creeps when my dad played it as a kid when I'd ride in the truck with him. But listening to it now, it fits very well with today's situation.
I love this song as I do others done by by Bill. I think the first song I heard was Convoy, I loved it then and I still do. I have heard other artists try to sing it, but no one can even come close to singing it the way Bill does. Thanks Bill for your wonderful singing of some great songs.
I have relatives in Pagosa Springs, and I used to have to spend my summers there. I say "have to", because Pagosa Springs isn't exactly a mecca of teenaged thrills and chills. Anyway, when this song was popular some boob hung a bunch of plastic chickens on the side of the feed store. Yes, there really was a feed store there in the mid 70s. I've gone over Wolf Creek Pass many times, and I never fail to think of this song. LMAO the first time I heard it.
I have driven a 1998 Peterbilt through downtown Pagosa Springs. I didn't wreck and had a load of potatoes but I couldn't help but think of this song. Much better than looking at women standing on corners in Winslow, Arizona.
The first time my (semi-driving) Dad heard this song, he had to pull over to the side of the road because he was laughing sooooo hard!! Love it, this brings back childhood memories for me! Thanks for posting.
