@Maguirearch She has a three-octave vocal range (according to Wikipedia). Also, this is a common development of the voice for a lyrical artist. She has a special tone and tessitura :) Furthermore, she mixes two vocal techniques: bel canto and jazz/pop singing.

What's with all those hateful people and their intolerance? Almost all writers want other artists to perform their music. In this way their music lives on. And if Brian May wrote this song (I did not know), then Sarah has HIS permission, not needing anybody else's--especially those who are intolerant of freedom of artistic expression and interpretation. This interpretation brings this song to a totally different audience; which probably pleases it's author very much.

Sarah Brightman did not plagiarize this beautifully written song. She had to get permission to sing it in her album and tour. I am sure the song writer will and does get a percentage every time an album is sold or on tour. She is a professional singer/artist not composer. She interprets the song differently than the original-she is allowed, she had legal permission to do that.
