Basic guns should be possesses like .22, .9mm, .357/.38, 12 GA shotgun, AK47 in 7.62 X 37. or .3030, or .3006. But most people don't get enough AMMO. Stockpileing ammo is recommended against the time when it can't be bought for not being available, too expensive, etc. Get em while you still can. You clearly didn't bother to read the link I directed you to. Switzerland never gave a gun to every household. It ran a ridiculous conscription program (i.e. the draft), which required all adult males to basically be in the national guard. Those males were allowed to keep their gun and ammunition, BUT THEY WEREN'T ALLOWED TO USE THEM EXCEPT IN CASE OF WAR. If they used them for home defense, they could be arrested.

Yes, passing laws against gun ownership should work. That way criminals and nutjobs will finally be convinced to stop breaking other laws, like murder, robbery, etc. Why didn't anyone think of that before?
