You got to be kidding me! No offense to the young man in the video, he is most likely an innocent dupe. But this shaolin do do is complete b.s. Based on other vids I've seen and the "grandmaster" This is FAR from shaolin quan. It even sucks big time for karate which it most resembles (no offense to real karatekas as well). Even in my current shape, I personally will whip that a** of ANY of their practitioners, including the "grandmaster"! Give me a break! Shameful!
Lastly...seriously...watch some REAL shaolin lineage forms and techniques....this shaolin do does not look anything close. It's sloppy kung fu roleplaying by karate students. Karate is not bad, it's a great art, but what's not a great art is the load of shit these brainwashed people call SHAOLIN DO, they claim to be pure SHAOLIN Lineage!...hell most any styles now are hybrids. Look deep within your mind and think about this..it's too good to be true people...it is not real it's fake . Good luck!
@g0f3rfighter I have no doubt that it was corrupted at some point. That should be expected. And as for Sin The remembering over 500 forms, it was my understanding that Grandmaster Ming left written notes on them. He probobly has them on video, too.
@g0f3rfighter Well said.. this Shaolin Do has nothing to do with chinese kung fu/wushu. it looks like some one made these forms by watching some videos. Pure Trash!!!!
This art is a fraud people , and I'm sure this comment will get deleted quickly , but hopefully some will see it. There is NO way that this so called "grandmaster" can know more than 500 forms PERFECTLY, this is impossible. In family systems there are usually less than 20 forms to learn up to black sash. Speaking of Sashes, this Shaolin Do is freakin Karate with kung fu moves interpreted from books and movies people, this is NOT the real deal . I HIGHLY suggest you all to go to a REAL SCHOOL!
This stuff is a joke. I have spoken to people that were "traitors" to shaolin do, they have told me so many things that have gone on in this terrible art. Shaolin Do is all about the money and that's what it all boils down to. They have 3 branches from the "so called" grandmaster of which is reaping all the benefits from it's foolish students. They tell their students to believe EVERYTHING this master says...simple this is brainwash preying on the weak minds of people who watch to many movies
From what I understand, some monks migrated to indonesia and put on a uniform and adapted the belt ranking system to disguise the forbidden shaolin art. No dought it was probably corrupted at some point. I have met both Sin, and Hiang and trained with Hiang at his home. He is the real deal, very deceptive. I have never seen Sin do too much though. Go ahead and underestimate this style, you will pay for it if you get the right person who trains hard and understands the apps. Good foundation.
Economy of movement, proper breathing, meditation, iron-body training, weight vest training, grappling and extreme mental and physical training is what Shaolin Do is about. People that join Shaolin Do are or have been in other arts and have found Shaolin Do to be the most challenging. GM Sin is not a money-grubber as some claim. He did not even have his own car until we all chipped in and bought him one on his 60th Birthday. So..Please stop..You don't have a clue about what you are assuming.
True martial arts were and still are outlawed in China. The Shaolin Do material, although not taught all inclusively at each style, until one reaches 1st Dan/Black Sash, still "jaw-drop" masters in China because the material is the teachings of the "old-ways". The material is not flowery and was never intended tobe. Those that think is should be, have been reprogrammed by communist government influence.
@Taijiguy108 The problem with pronouns is their ambiguity. Fools will think your reply brilliant but to say someone's entire statement is a fabrication just shows bias. So if you had a specific statement, you should refer to that specific statement.
@AirRepair2 You really believe that s***? You mess around with some of those true wu seng (know what that is?) and you all will get your
"jaws dropped" for real! I have seen virtually nothing skillful on any of you guys' vids. Totally illegitimate from what I see. It looks like a poorly executed type of kempo karate. I hope the abbot of Shaolin stops you all from using the name of shaolin, cause you all are b.s. And I will back that up anytime. I'm not too far fro KY.
The actual robes, worn by the Shaolin monks were just that...robes. Crossed over and tied together with a belt or sash or rope. Very much the same style a Karate Gi, but longer.
@AirRepair2 Yes, they are similiar, but what Shaolin-Do wore was specifically karate gi's. You can even see from paintings done of their old school the "karate" patches on the uniforms. The reasons for wearing the karate gis differs a bit depending on who you talk to, but they were clearly meant to specifically be karate gis and are not a Shaolin uniform related to Shaolin directly (other than the general similarity of practical martial arts clothing between the various asian cultures).
Chung Sam's (Frog Suits) are not formal Kung Fu attire. They were peasant's street clothes, popularized by Jun Fan (Bruce Lee) and Hollywood back in the late 60's to early 70's. GM Sin has been teaching the same material since 1964, before anyone heard of Kung Fu or Bruce Lee.
Two of twenty monuments at Shaolin temples in China, are dedicated to GM Sin's visit to those temples. I would suppose then that these people that believe he is a fake, disagree with the very Abbott's that allowed those monuments to be erected?
@AirRepair2 GM Sin The paid money to have those slabs erected. They're basically donation markers. You can find those from numerous different schools. It doesn't matter if you know Shaolin, Tae Kwon Do, or created AirRepair-Do in your mother's basement. You pay them money, and they put up the "monument".
I'm totally ignorant of all of this(sad, I know), but could anyone tell me which I should study: Shaolin-do(the school says it teaches tai chi and chin na too), Tae Kwon Do, or Brazilian Ju-Jitsu? That's all that is available to me.
bigjye tv im a student of shaolin do, and one thing i learned from this form, is that anyone who chooses to say their kung fu is better, than another's , is just a fool, without the discipline i learned from master Jim Mooney id be in prison for murder, now i know several ways to kill, yet i have no urge, so before you bad mouth my sifu, learn to honor those who came before and choose to pass on their knowledge.
For me I'm not into bashing martial arts systems and all that, but I'm into the truth. I feel like why lie about what a martial arts system is? If you created something stand by your creation but call it a new creation, don't like about lineage.
What killed me is how when back in 94 the stance on tournaments was that the techniques they teach are too deadly for tournaments so they don't compete in tournaments but now I see ....shaolin-do tournaments. The proof is out there, just investigate!
also i notice you have videos title "Muslim women rejects Islam for the truth of Christianity". How can you possibly believe shit like that and turn around saying that in your expertise (which is what) the ba gua looks different? doesnt really add up. talk about a history thats full of holes, christianity is full of more contradictions, misinterpretations and perversions than any other institution in the world. Come on joe lets be logic here. Who among us is such an expert to pass judgment
Your point about the Christianity videos I favorited is rediculous at best. What does that have to do with Martial Arts? nothing. I guess you'll look at the hip hop and rap videos I favorited as well to attempt to back up your stance on Shaolin-do. Basically your point is nothing more than a strawman fallacy. If you want to make a point stick to the topic at hand which is martial arts. Come on you can do better I'm sure.
actually that is not accurate, participation in cage fights was determined to be not in keeping with our philosophy, and it was in respect to masters only, etc...
SD always had a tournament, going back to the 1960s. It was closed to other lineages after 1988 or so.
Since your facts are distorted and you are biased, you really can't be a good witness for the "prosecution", can you. Goodbye, then.
@christopherfisk In regards to researchers proving shaolin-do fake, the question is what "researchers" can prove it's authentic? When there are no documentations to verify lineage or authenticity of a MA system, the next step is to look at the art and compare it's principles, mechanics, etc with other systems of the same background. So, comparing shaolin-do's baguazhang with other lineages of baguazhang there are no similarities other then the obvious which is walking in a circle.
theres nothing to prove it is fake by your own words, only that it doesnt look like other ba gua. ive never trained with gary grooms but frankly based on the videos he put of himself doing forms on youtube, i dont doubt it wasnt quite right. also Pa Kua has an obscure past and there are over a hundred varietys of pa kua recognized by the baguazhang association in china including that of SD, which it claims is recognized. what proof does your opinion of how it looks prove?
There is plenty to prove it is fake! I'm a martial artist having studied several arts including KMA & CMA. The founder of Baguazhang (bgz)is Dong Hai-chuan, what is so obscure about that actual fact? The only thing that isn't clear is what martial art he studied prior to developing bgz. If you notice in my prior post you'll see how I said you go about proving authenticity when there's no documentation.
compare & contrast authentic baguazhang systems, i.e., gao, yin, cheng, etc. you'll notice they are different in some applications, and execution, BUT they still have the same foundation (principles, body mechanics, etc) which on the surface makes them look similar. Shaoin-do lacks that foundation. It's as if someone was just mimiced the movements without the understanding of the deeper principles.
@christopherfisk- Oh trust me it isn't just Gary Grooms, it's also GM Sin Kwan The. I've seen many of his forms and they are so karate-ish it's not even funny. His mantis form is just a bad imitation of preying mantis I've ever seen. How can you seriously watch a shaolin-do form such as mantis let's say, then look at a family style mantis form, then a shaolin kung fu form and NOT see the huge difference?
@BigJyeTV You are judging by the appearance of a thing, rater than its principles. Done correctly - not the standard SD way - the Bagua looks exactly like the kind of style I see coming from other schools. And point of fact our classical form is the same form taught by Black Taoist in NYC.
Personally I think the problem is a lack of skill sets taught before the form. But irregardless you haven't proven anything.
@anhkhoinguyen It's not the closes that makes it fake, it's the art itself. What they do is very Japanese. The stances, movements etc so if it is shaolin, it is shaolin kenpo, but not shaolin kung fu. Just compare their forms with other kung fu forms.
if you saw maybe a pa kua or tai chi forms you might not think it looks so japanese. but being as japanese martial arts are born of kung fu yes there are similarities. and no it doesn't look like wushu.
@christopherfisk I used to train with Gary Grooms and I've seen the shaolin-do baguazhang forms, and they look noting like authentic baguazhang forms. If you'd like to see what authentic baguazhang looks like check out War Fox, blacktaoist, etc on youtube, then compare notes with what you've seen at shaolin-do.
I've watched (and spoken) to blacktoaist and it is the same form. Also I have the notes from Sifu Jerry Alan Johnson which corroborate the classical form.
Again, no facts.
Sorry if YOUR bagua looks nothing like those venerable masters, but it doesn't prove anything. btw ift may not be your fault, it could have been your teacher.
@shaolinacademy Yes, Shaolin-Do has a number of random forms from various loosely or unrelated styles of Chinese martial arts (most of which have been available in book form in one way or another for decades). Also, being from Indonesia, it's likely Sin The and his bro learned some sort of Indonesian hybrid martial art. You can find quite a few styles there that are mixes of Chinese and other things with bizarre obviously or heavily warped origin stories/legends.
@Taijiguy108 Some good examples of non-Shaolin "borrowed" forms listed right on his website:
The Bagua, Xingyi, Taichi, Mulan Fan (a VERY modern taiji based DANCE form created mostly as exercise for women... I assume he picked this up on one of his numerous visits to the country his ignorant and naive students insult constantly), and Hua Quan all have easily verifiable non-Shaolin origins.
@Taijiguy108 conjecture and happenstance: the definition of circumstantial evidence.
How is saying he got something in China to prove it is not Chinese martial art exactly?
And you tell me - seriously - one SINGLE lineage that is not a hybrid of anything. You can't, do you know why? Because when a good martial artist learns something regardless of the style, he will find the evidence for it and include it in his own style. Thus you will find Aikido in Bagua and Muay Thai in Tae Kwon Do...
I disagree when he said it's fake, though, you've messed up on the form some. Not only that, but you've been watching the other person while you go on. I've copied other people in my shaolin class enough to know.
though you stell missed a few postures in the form. you forgot to box the ears and anotherdouble tiber palm thrust and the few others. but it was good.
This gives Karate and Kung Fu a bad name! sloppy footwork poor stances and movement are awful.
