That BACK FOR THE ATTACK 1987 album. Played it all day everyday and the HYSTERIA album and a lot more back in the day. Cassette tapes ROCK. 80s posters ROCK. Theres nothing like walking on the sidewalk on your way to school and listening to KISS OF DEATH on a walkman cassette player. 80s best of times.fuk the ipod and facebook
I met Dokken at a signing at 1 am at a Queensrhyche concert at the house of blues! hes a really nice guy. He signed a dokken poster for me after i told him i played guitar and he wrote "See ya in 10 more Years ,Don Dokken" he said he would open for me at my concert lol. If hes still alive. P.S. i was 11 and now im 13 so when im 21!
I've been listening to heavy metal for 25 years and have always known who Dokken were but never listened to them, probably cause it wasn't cool to listen to them where I was from, but as of the last couple of months I've been listening to them and have to say they are great, kinda cool to go through the Dokken catalog now, I still love the harder metal, but I've come to appreciate Dokken.
@TheKiddJosh I saw them with Whitesnake and Scorpions, and the best band was Scorpions, I booted most of it to MD, but I think Dokken was really poor that night, and it depressed me, I wanted them to do well
When the Who famously stuttered My ma ma my Generation, it was to imply and reference the drugs of the youth movement, and of course, Mods and Rockers were the movement for their shores. So, there's a lot at work besides face-value, cover of the book where music is concerned. Also want to point out, Dokken sold out his local solo album tour for Up From the Ashes, I never got to see him! I was outside the venue however, that night
Don Dokken is a legend. I saw him play last night and briefly met him with my brother inlaw. Fascinated that he is so literate. I would love to pick his brain. Once again, a legend and a very nice guy.
@thedonmo Cool, I believe he is legend, despite the internal problems, for the fans, they try and reunite, and like Pink Floyd, the personalities are at great odds. One Live Night is GOD LIKE, must own VIDEO
@EatEmAndSmileRoth he keeps on dogging lynch but lynch is a realy cool guy this guy,don dokken is a fuckin control freak thats why george left fuckin dokken.
Don is too funny! He's soo cool. He had a cool rockin' voice back then! The songs were great-I still listen to Dokken! Today's music sux so bad. I can't believe he still tours! Go Dokken!
George Lynch is a good dude. Before he made it with Dokken he worked at Best Records in Cerritos, California giving guitar lessons. Funny dude and very cool. I like Don Dokken becouse he is a class act, plus look what he has been thru. Very strong individual..
Wow I never knew that Don was in foster homes. It ironic to me that I was also in and out foster homes and it sucked but at the same while I was going through that. Dokken's music kept me going.
This is not boring. This is one of the first times I have ever heard Don talk. These interviews are educating. I just don't understand why he doesn't sing in falsetto anymore. I think he should just retire and stop comming out with albums or else he will ruin the vibe people had with his old shit. He will become like Def Leppard putting out shitty albums after their heyday.
i saw dokken in march. it was one of my dreams. i love their music to death but the show didnt turn the way i wanted too. they played 35 min. n don mumbled a bunch. all i can say is that it was worth the 12 dollars lol
I wont go see any of the bands I worshipped in the 80's...........dont want all my good memories to go down the shitter..........I know it's impossible for Don to hit those high notes he used to nail when he was a young stud..........or hear Lynch rip-ass a smokin' solo..........so I'll just stay home and relive the glory years on my iPod.
lynch hasnt been with dokken for years hell i cant even remember how many 10 or more. reb beach toured with don and he was bad ass. the live album yesterday and today is the tour im refering to.
man dokken is so funny even though is tough childhood. um i remember winning some tickets to see dokken at the house of blues in the 90's . i was only 17 at the time and it was a 21 and over show. so i never got to see them . but still i love there music. rock on guys you got me through some tough times and relationships. i am a song writter and singer/ drummer. i am inspired by all you guys. thanks
Wow! This is one of the more funny clips I have seen of Don! LOFL! There have been some shitty things said about him as a person, but this bit really humanizes him, and it's great! F'n Rock On DOKKEN..!!!
and I agree...bring George back....hell even do TWO guitarists I don't care!
Dokken was my favorite metal band in the 80's and 90's. You need the pain and genetics to create original music. For his age, he looks good, his voice a bit raspy on the new album but BRING BACK GEORGE LYNCH!!!! He is a huge part of the dokken sound.
what a great interview don has been my hero since i discoverd him in the 80S best band in the world to me is dokken i even got the dokken cross tattooed on my arm lame huh he means alot to me
This series with Don is great! He opens up part of himself not seen in other interviews. Once in a Baltimore club I kept yelling Pilsner, Pilsner...took a while to figure out Pilson and Pilsner aren't the same. George threw his stage towel toward me, I caught it and ended up sick for a week. Don and George both may have had a bug;the concert was great as always!!!!! I never figured out if George thought calling Jeff "Pilsner" was funny or what. He smiled though!!! Keep Rockin DOKKEN!!!!!!!
It's great to hear from Don Dokken! I saw Dokken in concert years ago, at Bone Bash V. Featuring Deep Purple live. I know Deep Purple saw ME! I was the one who yelled out "I LOVE YOU, DEEP PURPLE!!" when everybody else was rude enough to boo Ian Gillan after two of his mics died. Geez! Dokken were awesome. Everyone else was, too. Thin Lizzy, Joe Satriani, Blue Oyster Cult, and of course Deep Purple and Dokken ROCKED!
I didn't know he grew up in foster homes! I thought I knew a lot about him. He's been a positive influence on me since I was in my early teens because he's never afraid to be himself and he always comes through no matter how much hardship life throws at him.
I agree bro. I used to blame Don for Dokken's demise but he really never told his side of the story. On the Dysfunctional Tour in 1995, Don awoke to George, Jeff, and Mick plotting to fire him and get a "younger" singer. Glad to see him doing so well with the new album also.
Don Dokken seem like funny interesting guy. Lynch keeps bad-mouthing him but that just makes Lynch look like a little bitch
