It's upscaling. It makes the image size that resolution. It's very useful if you have an LCD monitor that doesn't look good if its not at the recommended resolution. Also I just bought this, I have the box they had right before this one and it works great. This one just has added support for the ps2 and GC with upscaling abilities. I think it's a great buy.

I was wondering that too.  I guess all it does it makes your stuff say 1080p but doesn't 'change' the size. Besides 1080p on a small pc monitor is a waste. 720p is good enough. You only need 1080p if you have a 40" hdtv or bigger.
