I grew up with Guy Speranza, Mark Reale, Jimmy Iomi & Rick Ventura in Bergen Beach / Mill Basin, Brooklyn, NY, I am so happy that these video clips exist so that new generations of rock fans can discover their great musical talents. This song was written by Guy in 1974, it was one of the 1st orginal songs they ever wrote, along with Rock City. They started out as "Driftwood", playing block parties all over our neighborhood, Marine Park & Canarsie in the early 70's doing hard rock covers ....
One of the best American Metal bands ever! Is there more live stuff with Guy, He was the best singer they ever had. Next best lineup was the ThunderSteel period.I think.
they were unfortunately under the radar even before van halen's first album and because it was the late 70s at that point all metal was under the radar because of punk so I just dont exactly see what vh had to do with it but I agree with you that riot was the most underrated band of all times they made great songs and should have gotten a lot more respect
i just feel that VH was new and got uhh "more attention" than they did. so its not van halens fault. its not like they were trying to do it, they had their own problems within the band. so it just kinda was a factor to Riot being unherard of. they never gained attention in the way VH did.
yeah i guess you do have a point there then again though if it wasnt for vh the 80s couldnt have been the same and riots still out there i cant wait for the new album man
yea the 80s music wouldnt have been the same without Van Halen and BOTH of them are still out there. they'll just never be the same as they were back then....
Riot was the greatest band of all time. They were excelent at their peak of their first three albums. Amazing lead and rythm guitar. the vocals of Guy were just what they needed. They all came together and it was amazing! actualy perfect together. One of the most underrated and unheard of bands despite how amazing they were! they were so ahead of their time. No disrespect to Van Halen, but they killed them.
Saw these guys in the Colston Hall Bristol UK early 80's - as a support band to Sammy Hagar. Friend of mine had Rock City and said we gotta see 'em. He was sooo right. Forget Sammy Hagar...these guys could have played all night! The very best 'support' band I've ever ever seen. RIP Guy.... whata band! AWESOME!
whoa this song was released in 1977. i've never heard anything like this prior to that year. can i say they were ahead of their time with this song? =)
Saw them only once supporting Sammy Hagar, but had their albums before that and the production on them is superb. This song on Vinyl is UNBELIEVABLE. Loved the album covers as well.
Saw them in the early 80's supporting Sammy Hagar at Bristol, England. Brilliant band and Fire Down Under is one of the best rock albums of all time. With tracks like Altar of The King, Swords and Tequila and Outlaw....it rocked!! and still does!!
Yes, in fact I just moved back here to SA just about a month ago. just a couple of weeks ago I went out to the South Texas rock fest in Beorne and saw another great band from that era, UFO.
The first time I saw Riot was 1977 at The Great Gildersleeves, Bowery Street, NYC
my firends and I dropped in to see who was playing that wednesday night the place was empty only a handful of people less than 15 in the entire club we did not know what to expect they came onto the stage and played their entire first album like they were in the studio it was Great! they blew us away
Hey greenery...When you going to PAY these Guy's??? You ripped them off that's why they all quit. They couldn't stand you..Because they didn't have fun making records with YOU!! as your post reads. Pay Them STEVE...Or did they kick you out of N.Y. & the Music Biz.
Yes, Guy was definitely the sound of Riot as I remember them. As I mentioned on another posted video, I knew Peter Bitelli and Mark personally back then in San Antonio, they were great guys and it was sad to see them break up the way they did because they were just not the same with Rhett Forrester; Although I did get to go backstage and meet Blackmore the night they played San Antonio with Rainbow and Saxon, August 13th, 1982.....
This was the real RIOT!!! GUY,MARK,RICK,KIP & SANDY. What a shame their management sucked..they should have hit it big, they kicked ass and weren't those fag pretty boys that were all comin out in the 80's. These guys played major gigs..They played with heavy hitters..RIP Guy.
Whoever uploaded this should receive a METAL MEDAL!!! RIOT Rulz!!! I had never seen this vid before! Thanx a million times! Long Live Guy Speranza R.I.P!!!
