Jack White is an amazing musical talent! I kinda like to compare him to Beck in the fact that either one can play just about any instrument you put in front of them. The biggest difference, and the one that makes me like Jack White alot better, is that most of Jack's lyrics seem to make sense whereas Beck's lyrics are out of left field. This particular song is of my favorite White Stripes songs out of all their music. Absolutely outstanding!
Definitely one of the best songs to listen to in spring. Sounds just like the rollin' green hills of Ireland and other places. It's too bad they are a band no more. They left an everlasting mark on fans. Long live the White Stripes!
doubt it. But tts considerably easy to invent a celtic folk tune(look at dropkick murphys, the tossers, or flogging molly) It doesnt sound medieval, it sounds celtic.
the song itself is about the thistle, a flower native to Scotland, where both members of the band are from
someone should find a way to play this backwords and speed it up because i think the song St andrews is this song backwords.......im to dumb to do that myself
Answering why these bagpipes sound different, and are in key of D: the pipes used here aren't the usual big, loud Great Highland Pipes, but the much smaller and mellower Scottish Smallpipes, which are quiet enough to play along with other acoustic instruments, and come in usually A or D.
I've never called this a 'throwaway.' The entire album, actually, contains no filler at all. It's blatantly astonishing how The White Stripes just keep getting better and better, when most go somewhat stale. I really hope they go on tour soon, because that's one concert I could never miss.
I'll be damned if I can't remember where this tune is from.... Anyone wanna give me a hand? I know it's found in a much older traditional song, but I can not recall it's name. Just the bit around where he sings "Singing ladelade, etc."
this song inspired someone I know to get a celtic tattoo. Haha.. I love the white stripes. they can get away with anything and each time get better and better. :)
It;s kinda fitting. In Britain, the west and north is kinda like the American south, in the toubles history and relationship. And he we have a perfect marriage between the American south (the guitar) and the British north (bagpipes)

awesome. Jack White is better than any classically trained musician I know in terms of composition.
BenjaminPaulWoodham 2 years ago
@BenjaminPaulWoodham
fucking idiot. most white stripes songs are the same chord progression. They all sound the same.
1: the denial twist
2: white moon
3: take, take, take
4: passive manipulation
5: my door bell
6: You Don't Know What Love Is [You Just Do As You're Told
This is just the tip of the iceberg too. You should try listening to real musicians with real song writing talent.
tl;dr: Look a bit farther than MTV for your "music".
