  • Koko reminds me of ET.

  • I get angry everytime i see the chain around the neck.

  • @lilreinniita Me too.. >: But we don't know if it's necessary or not.. Or just because it's from the 70's..

  • @lilreinniita We saw earlier Koko likes to wander, so likely the chain is to make sure she doesn't go somewhere dangerous. She got it out of her own volition, so she doesn't seem to mind it too much.

  • If I were Koko, i'd be upset at the feeding the baby thing.....the baby is dead, and the bottle is empty.... WHAT IS THE MEANING OF THIS!!?!?!?! *runs outside*

  • It knew it was empty, so the Ape was like well if it 'ain't' important fuck this! *Drops the doll*

  • Why does he have a chain around his neck and not something softer? -.-

  • 4:38 First he was so gentle and it was amazing to see him putting the bottle at the babies mouth... and then he just drops it like nothing! XD

  • 3:55, he looks at her like "bitch this thing aint even real!" haha!

  • Dude the bottle is empty fill it... That was awesome

  • 06:43 "No, Koko, nono. That's not your box." *grumpy*

  • That Gorilla just wants to eat.I would be annoyed if a girl keep pestering me when I'm eating.

  • Gosh, the bit about the sweater was both adorable and amazing.

  • "but this is not real baby, lady... it's not even anything in the bottle."

  • This is fucking amazing! O_O

  • "Empty". "Yes, you know it's empty. But it's okay. The baby doesn't mind." Koko is probably thinking "There is nothing in there, get baby something to drink, Penny!"

  • i wanna eat a hunk of cucumber now....

  • in 100,000 years, if humanity is still around, we'll look back at ourselves now in the same way we currently look at chimpanzees and apes.

  • She's so amazing <3 <3

  • Very intelligent

  • 04:37 "What !? no food for me, food for toy ? FUCK this, bitch come here".

  • @iRouRoui lmfao that is probably what she was thinking.

  • With quite a bit of skepticism about what they're actually doing to the gorilla, and how many of its gestures mean anything, it's obvious that the very intelligent Gorilla for the most part thinks about food.

  • FOR EVERYONE CALLING KOKO A HIM: SHE IS A FEMALE!!!

  • 0:41 - pow - baby down on the floor - what a good mother that will be ....:-D

  • Thats a crappy ass building lol

  • lol her expression at 6:50 when she turns around like ' phhft....whatever'

  • 3:56-3:58 that look is priceless!

  • I'd be sick of her talking to me like that all the time. I've only been watching for a few minutes and I'm sick of all her talking! LoL

  • he needs other gorillas who know sign language that he can hang out with.

  • @PatricktheDoody Koko's a girl

  • @PatricktheDoody totally

  • @PatricktheDoody but then they would start plotting against mankind and YOU'VE SEEN PLANET OF THE APES

  • i think a lot of the time the scientist misconstrues koko's action. i think a lot of the stuff koko does is implied, which is why she doesnt fully communicate her demands. like if she wants the "necklace" on, she doesnt indicate "put it on my neck " because its the only thing koko knows you can DO with taht necklace, if that makes sense. i'd be fuckign annoyed if i were koko. haha

  • 1:58 she looks at the camera like "can"t a woman eat?"

  • he is just exactly like a zombie. mmmmmmm brains (tomato).

comb hair....(pulls hair and combs like a zombie)

baby wants to drink...(stiffs bottle in baby and drops it like a BOSS)

(picks up baby by hair later.)

zombie doesnt like yellow, wants read blanket. read blanket is niiice. hmmmm fluffy. now open the damn door you stupid human XD

  • 3:48 Koko: "You want me to feed a plastic doll?"

  • Is the neckless really necesary?

  • Bitch is goin' to town on those beans.

  • Koko is now about 40 years old and Penny close to 60. They've spent their lives together.

  • "There, fed the baby." *Drop*

  • @SnoBlackMelbkour HAHAHAHA I LAUGHED OUT LOUD at that omg. XD

  • want to go outside....outside...outside...lets go...outside... fuck the neckless, the doll, the sweater, the bottle, the keys, the locks...i want to go outside...outside...fuck the red sweater...open the damn door...yes, use the key, open the door...oh im tired? yeah im tired.. tired of waiting to go outside...holy shit

  • Amazing! Koko kept opening the bottle and trying to drink it because it was empty, she wanted to feed the doll!

  • I like Penny's LED watch. I wonder if its a TI watch?

  • That's a bitchin' sweater

  • 5:09 she says kiss my ass ! LOL :D

  • if koko had a baby He would kill it =( such as the plastic baby

  • @tehinfidel Sorry if I watched a little more of the video I would have seen that she does distinguish colors This is a stretch but I wonder can she tell the difference between shades of red for example if something is a darker shade of red than the color she was first told was red will she still count the darker shade as red (which I assume most people would) I remember when I was younger anything that didn't fit my strict definition of red simply wasn't red to me hence my curiosity (09:16 deep)

  • @tehinfidel I have a question for you, for which I hope you know the answer. Koko will sign "Green slices" for cucumber. Having taken four years of ASL myself, I know that this is an improper sign for cucumber. However, I am not concerned with Koko's ASL diction, rather it got me thinking does Koko understand the concept of the color green (for if she didn't why sign green slices instead of simply cucumber). In short, I'm wondering whether Koko can tell the difference and show that she knows it

  • 5:43 she say "scheisse" its a bad german word, same like shit

  • @peas1337 No, she actually said "Should I sip?" because Koko signed to her to sip the bottle, which she did afterwards.

  • amazing !

Project Nim is supposed to be good too !

  • Combing the mouse...

    Patting the rat...

    Rubbin' the nubbin'...

Call it what you will it's all just spanking the monkey to me... (Sorry, I'm a terrible human being I know).

  • That's one patient Gorilla.

  • @kianhussain very patient and clever!

  • LOL I remembered when Robin Williams talked about Koko encounter...that Koko signed...Koko likes Robin...(because he has very hairy arms) xD write robbin williams - coco on youtube xD

  • Comment removed

  • it seems like having a child that is stronger than you and computes information differently... how fascinating...

  • @Solensherre Kind of like being a single mother who has dwarfism and whose son is autistic... (Think I'd rather raise a gorilla tbh, autism is harder to work with depending on where the kid falls in the autistic spectrum).

  • As impressive as this is I have to imagine Koko is having an incredibly hard time doing these things. Considering the difference in intelligence and there not being a universal language it must be a huge achievement every time she signs correctly or follows a verbal instruction.

  • i want a gorilla.

  • I love him throwing away the baby

  • Koko looked at her like "Bitch this bottle is empty damnit"!!!!

  • I hate 'Penny' she is excessively controlling. It's probably hell for Koko, this stupid dry cunt is more annoying than I could possibly stand. I'm surprised Koko hasn't murdered her at this point in the film to be honest it shows a good deal of restraint.

  • @mh1402 i saw your comment it made me laugh thanks for that mate =)

  • @mh1402 this (cunt) is doing extremely compelling research you ignorant fuck obviously you havent been around a child very long if you dont know you have be very firm and repatitive to teach them shit.

  • Penny talks to Koko exactly as human moms relate to their toddlers every single day. I think it's pretty clear after all this that primates are people too.

  • The monkey is very smart ,he just lazy and doesnt care much .

  • it's not impressive but definitely a crude form of communication

i find it quite fascinating that people will perk up if a bird cusses (thinking its pure genius)

and that humans don't find this even more fascinating, because in reality the distilled essence is a very real thing

  • 6:50 "bitch that IS my box"

  • isn't koko trying to tell her it's empty? and why does koko need a collar/leash?

  • @beautystarr0 becasue he is an animal

  • @JosephHolmes108 SHE and she's more 'human' than an animal in my opinion.

  • @beautystarr0 but none the less still an animal

  • @JosephHolmes108 Humans are animals also.

  • @RussianAssassin21 True but smart enough to know when we have a chain around our neck... thats the differece

  • Cont..,

    In their own right.

  • I've only just heard about Koko and I'm wondering why more attention isn't being paid to the fact that apes can learn sign language? Obviously it's more ideal for them to be in their natural habitat but if they can't be, surely more research should be put into their learning potential? I suppose it scares most humans to think that animals are capable of learning so much more than we give them credit for. They'd rather use and abuse them to further human causes than to let them be beings in thei

  • i wonder if they told koko their feeding her vitamins

  • I hate the fact that they use a leash, or the "necklace" as they like to call it. Wonder how they would like to wear that necklace themselves?

  • @TheCarlScharnberg Koko grabbed it and tried to put it on herself at one point. She obviously doesn't mind it.

You have to realise that even though Koko is intelligent and can communicate, she is still a very large gorilla in a habitat full of humans. She is obviously very kind, but some people do not realise this. One of the reasons that gorillas survive longer in captivity is because there they wont get shot at by people. Not everyone is as caring as this woman, Penny, is.

  • You know, this just looked like a mom dealing with a child who happened to be a bit hairy.

  • 5:10 Gorilla ass...

  • God I love her voice.

  • Why are we using gorillas to teach us about modern human society? If we want to learn about gorillas, humans need to go and be adopted by gorilla society in African forests and we need to be better able to communicate with them. This gorilla is clearly better able to understand humans than humans understand gorillas.

  • is that Christoph Waltz?

  • I would be scared as shit to be in a cage with that thing, look how huge it is!

  • @Jackc095 It was still a little kid.

  • no no koko thats not YOUR box

koko: where the hell is my box? :(

  • wanna see planet of the apes sooo bad

  • im really high but seeing a monkey eat a tomato was one of the funniest things ever...

  • imma get me a gorilla and were gunna smoke blunts :D

  • awwww!!!!

  • xD it picks up the baby by its hair, gives it the drink and just drops it.

  • 1:28 i wish my lips were that flexible

  • Eats like a pig.

  • I get the impression that Koko is tired of her bullshit and just wants to go outside... I sure would not want to be Koko.. needing to do that shit all day long, all life long..

  • @tombepr Yeah, I got that impression up till now too...it's fascinating stuff and I really love watching it in many ways. And then I review how it makes me feel to see a beautiful and dignified primate perform - which is what is happening here - for whatever reason. Like ambershoshana said, I think Penny berates Koko too much. You see how dspondent Koko appears after the baby incident. Like Penny culdn't get what Koko appeared to be doing with the plastic doll's bottle...

  • I would never let her comb me. What the hell!. lol

  • LOL necklace. Also known as a leash.

  • i feel bad for koko... she probably just wants to be free and not be forced to learn when she can just talk to her own kind... :(

  • @Maximo20009 She does have other gorillas there to interact with now that she helped to teach sign language. At the time this was made I think they only had her at the lab.

  • @SupraJulie oh thats good :)

  • this is amazing!

  • man they should ask these gorillas philosophical questions, i wonder what they'ed come up with, or maybe that would be to abstract?

  • "yah i want the baby! ... this sweaters cool too actually. But ya, baby."

  • 4:55 Wow.... I'm just shocked. I can't believe she did that out of all those keys.

  • Comment removed

  • this is amazing, though i do not like how they put a chain on her :/ i love how she knows she must put her chain on to go outside, reminds me very much of my son. When I tell him we're going out, he looks for his shoes and gives them to me. koko is very smart!

  • @kneeyuckah you love how she knows she must put her chain on to go outside? I just find this very...very sad...it's an ape, not a human son or daughter!!!!!!!

  • @ladythreecats oh please! dont take it so literal! they no longer have her on a chain, it was mandatory back then when she lived at the zoo, i just thought it was interesting how she LEARNED in order to go out, she needed to wear it. her learning capacity reminded me of a toddler, but now she is now 38 years of age or so and she has definitely learned a lot more, she now signs in context JS

  • oh my god.. I just got the best idea ever ...

we could train primates for assassination missions and noone could ever find the real assassin.

    a perfect crime.

    they cant sentence a chimp..

    they cant find the trainer.

  • 5 minutes later she is still at the door

  • can koko understand complex or abstract concepts such as future, love, dreams, atoms, cells, air, things like that?

  • just let the damn thing be, good god, we gotta butt in everything, its an animal, no matter what you do, its still an animal, IT DOES NOT BELONG INSIDE, its home is the out world ... give you credit for what you doing, its great, but put an end to it, you are controlling the animal to get a credit from other, about your accomplishment

  • @yousef8411 And we belong inside? Either we evolved and we came from outside, or we were made in the garden of eden... outside. Just because we originate from outside doesn't restrict us to outside.

  • 1:21- quite possibly the funniest image ever! XD

  • And that was probably the first glimpse of Baby Alive!

  • Koko is like, "there's nothing in this bottle you idiot". lol I love Koko

  • shouldnt koko exercise

  • lmfao @ 5;05 to 5;15

  • i just want to throw in there yes the gorilla looks depressed but has anyone ever thought of the struggles of the worlderness and how boring that life must be compared to the high activity life koko is used to now? saying the gorilla would rather be in the worlderness is like saying a man would rather throw away his plasma tv and air condition because he would prefer the worlderness

  • @tank6972 *wilderness* not worlderness :)

  • The things is, Monkeys aren't really into 'conversation' as humans are, So Koko looks sorta like 'fine i'll do sign language just get on with it and give me the food' xD

  • Koko throws the baby on the floor

  • penny is hot

  • can you remember oliver the humanzee?

  • "Give her a drink?"

    Koko: "Koko drink."

"No, Koko, not YOU drink. you give baby drink."

Koko: "baby is plastic. you stupid."

  • This Gorilla knows more sign language than me :(

  • just let her eat in peace, god. Just let her be a kid

  • training gorillia to open locks? not a good idea...

  • i love this gorilla!

  • in the other videos of koko they show "compassion" that koko has towards a baby doll and towards kittens. when asked to feed the baby, the gorilla tries to drink the bottle instead of giving it to the baby and when it does give it to the baby its like fuck you and throws it on the ground lol so much for compassion. but still a smart one none the less and iwish i had one :) as long as it idnt get agressive, thatd be scary

  • 4:43 she's like...fuck this! haha

  • gorillas are like humans without a voice box that grow a little bigger and a little more hair i bet some aps someday will gain there freedom along side humans

  • koko is like, woman! SHUT...THE...FUCK...UP! If u guys would teach me the word shut up or what, i would be giving it to you anytime i feel ur gonna talk

  • Koko was one of Larry Kings wives. They had wild sexual romps, and afterwards, Larry would lie panting on Koko's chest and say "we can't tell anyone Koko. We can't tell anyone about this". Then Koko would brush her gorilla hand through Larrys hair.

Expect the made for TV movie soon, entitled "Koko And The King".

  • this ape is so smart, but the woman is just annoying, like give koko a break sometime yknow

  • @lonegymnast U r right--i noticed Americans r too narrow in action, may be there were too many Germans as emigrants in 19 century. she should play with ape, not to be like robot or workoholic . she needs to be more a partner than a teacher.

  • If he was smart he could punch her in the face and leave that dump

    stuff the patronising

  • lol at him combing her hair (ouch)

that the F did she expect :)

  • yes..his responds are limited but the fact that he is capable of even this much is remarkable

  • do they ever ask him something interesting like,do you ever think of killing?

  • @jasonwins7 She has displayed pretty clearly that she strongly dislikes violence, for one thing. For another, this is comparative psycholinguistics, not moral philosophy.

  • Absolutely fascinating. That that white woman kept her face.

  • It's like me using the microsoft voice commands, its responses are limited.

  • Was she ever allowed to procreate? And if so, did she teach her offspring to "talk"?

  • @Niwles Apparently they were never successful in getting her to breed, but she still tries to teach others to sign.

  • i want koko to babysit for me someday

  • Comment removed

  • I don't know if I want to like this or dislike it..... it's interesting and cute but also a little sad

  • She's like a little kid. :D

  • why doesn't she learn how a gorilla talks or communicates and live in trees and undressed like a gorilla???

so weird forcing animals to do our things

  • do you think they could learn to cook and clean and stuff like that?

  • She reminds me strongly of a small child. She's probably smarter than most kids. Kids are IDIOTS.

  • Wow. She found that key faster than any human would.

  • i think she humanizes the gorilla too much, she wrongs Koko for doing gorilla things alot.

  • HAHA AWW!! HOW CUTE:)

  • Lol "Why are you making me give the baby an empty bottle?"

  • humans making apes pregnant or apes making humans pregnant, would that make a new speacie? or is it even possible, to me it sounds possible, primates breading with primates?

  • @skimenneske Humans and great apes have different numbers of chromosomes; our chromosome 2 fused together from 2 separate chromosomes at some point in the past; so even if there was still enough genetic similarity, the DNA in the gametes would be unable to recombine to form a functional zygote. This is one of the loose definitions of species: we're in the same subfamily/tribe, but unable to reproduce.

The fusion of chromosome 2 is interesting though, and worth reading about if you're inclined.

  • @tehinfidel yeah well i did hear something about it, dosent interest me much, i just came up with the idea, that it was possible thanks for the respond.

  • @tehinfidel

Im not sure what you mean but what about cloning apes and humans? Would that work? It works with a tiger and lion

  • @cupiiid Not sure, it might be *technically* possible. I didn't think so at first, but apparently horses and donkeys have different chromosome counts, as well. However, it would never pass an ethics committee, and experimentation with human cloning is illegal in several countries :-)

  • there is more to it than chromosomes. there are certain steps in reproduction and there are certain steps that always fail when combining apes and humans. horses and donkeys are a rare exception.

  • @tehinfidel oh geez, i'm embarrassed at the trivial questions that people are asking you... ty for the video post! very interesting

  • @kamikrazi123 These aren't so bad. See my "Chimpanzee vs. human child learning" videos for comments that make one want to bleed to death after being cut with a rusty butterknife.

  • @tehinfidel when you say not functional, do you mean infertile or " without any biological function"!

i think different species can interbreed in vitro, but not naturally e.g. lions and tigers, horses and donkeys, even humans and gorillas, but first and most important, it's UNETHICAL!!

it is also possible to have genetic and physical problems with the offspring. It would be very interesting to see what an chimp and human would reproduce, but i don't want to go to jail...

  • @tehinfidel " GREAT " APES ? DUDE WHAT THE FUCK AND HUMANS ARNT GREAT =.=

  • @ConceitedEnt3 Isn't it past your bedtime?
