  • @sootch00 what can you do for california?

  • What about for CA?

  • @ThePmfan But is not fine if it's not made 922r compliant... So... Yeah

  • THANK YOU!

  • What about the adapter you can use that will allow for the non duck bill tapco mags?

  • so wait if my SKS is 100% chinese from 1985 its illegal?

  • @PhOeNiXpIoLe if it was imported before the 1990 yes , if it was imported 1991-yesterday no it is not compliant

  • That rifle is soo freakin ugly after conversion. If I wanted a rifle that looked like an AR15 I'd buy an AR15. Why is it so hard for tapco to make parks that look identical to what they are replacing instead of "tacticooling" the crap out of it?

  • i thought A sks only has 14 parts according to atf

  • Fuck 922r! Why abide by a rule set by a government that would rather take the whole damn weapon?

  • I JUST BOUGHT SKS AM IN CA I CAN MAKE MINELOOK LIKE THAT LEGAL???????/

  • An all original Russian SKS, imported when they flooded the market, if not modified, has no compliance issues. You run into compliance issues for an original Russian SKS if you start modifying it, for example by putting on one of these stocks. (Apparently with Chinese versions the law is quite different.) The problem is that everyone wants to modify them and the law on compliance is quite difficult to understand. The safest bet if you have a Russian original SKS is to leave it as is.

  • If im about to get an sks that was imported during the 80s it doesnt have to follow this?

  • @148scalemodeling If it's Russian all original (no mods at all) then it was built more than 60 years ago and my understanding is it qualifies as a curio and relic. But if you modify it in any way you could be asking for trouble. (For some reason it appears that the ones from China are more problematic.) Just save up and get an AK if you want an AK. The SKS is fun the way it is.

  • its funny because a right can not be regulated like a privilege we can and by all means should have just as much firepower as our government employees (law enforcement) according to the constitution which out weighs any made up law by any law maker today and unlike many believe the reason we have a right to bear arms is to protect ourselves from government as intended by our forefathers.

  • tapco only sell to dealers!

  • that music O.o

  • A letter from the ATF states that the sks only has 14 parts and a yugo has 15 counting the muzzle break so u only need four USA made parts for an sks and 5 USA made parts for a yugo and that's straight from ATF

  • I think you need some new music.

  • My friend has a Norinco SKS made in 1959, how will he know when it came into the US?

  • @semiautoriflelover It should be printed on the rifle's barrel. The importer and year. I believe. Sorry for responding 2 months later lol.

  • is it legal to have 30 round clip

  • @jake77515 NO, but you can have a 30 round magazine. lol

  • I wish they made this kit with a fixed stock.

A fixed stock, detachable mag and pistol grip is a no no in my state.

    Lame.

  • @NESurvivalPrep mine has a mixed stock and no pistol grip called Dragunov made by choate machine and tool co and is made in USA and looks sweeeeet.

  • it is BS >:(

But I gotta follow the rules :|

  • I didn't know that the 922r applied to the sks. Someone at Cabela's asked me tonight. Great Video, this answered my and their questions.

  • If you want a 20 round detachable magazine you must do this. It surely increases your firepower in WROL situation. Just save your old parts to sell with the gun later. The stock change doesnt noticably lighten the weapon. IMO the SKS is the best bang for the buck battle weapon you can buy. You can shoot more rounds thru it as fast as possible without failure than many rifles. It may get red hot and smoke but will continue to function.

  • @sootch00

so say i just bought one at a gun show and do not modify it at all, is it legal?

if i bought one i would like to leave it classic, as i have a thing for historic firearms.

  • so does putting the new synthetic stock on it reduce the weight of the rifle?? i would imagine it does.

  • NICE SKS , GOOD VID !!!

  • My norinco sks's only modification is that is has a monte carlo synthetic stock. So if I'm deer hunting (legally with licence), can a game warden fine me or something worse? And, what is the punishment for owning or using a non-compliant weapon? Also, is it not illegal to sell a non-compliant sks? I see stock sks's in almost every gun store I go inside. Thanks.

  • so going by the list you have if i bought the stock (pistol grip, butt stock, and forearms) and magazine and muzzle break, the rifle would be 922r compliant? correct?

  • I have a Type 56 Norinco. I think it was made in the mid 70's. Would I have to do the compliance kit? I wanted to put the T6 stock on it, but I don't want to have to go through all this bullshit. If someone could reply asap that would be awesome! Thanks.

  • Stupid unconstitutional law. "Officer let me take my gun apart and prove that it has american made parts". How the fuck do you tell if it came into the USA before 1990? Does the serial number tell you that info?

  • Take note: from what I've seen, the pistol grip will not help you be 922r compliant because the gun didn't have one. 922r is about removing foreign parts, not adding U.S. ones.

The funniest part of all this? People can just skip this hassle entirely and instead just go buy an AK47.

  • @Sooch00 Im in Cali and if i go to a shooting range can a police officer or an employee at the range ask me if they could see my Chinese sks to see if it 922r compliance.Mine has no modifications. Thanks

  • is it the same in canada or is there other rules?

  • @SpiritofAdventure22 Lol! I was beginning to wonder....

  • @SpiritofAdventure22 South Carolina

  • what if my sks has been in this country before 1990? does this apply to me? i plan on putting a tapco sks compliance kit on it, but i dont know if its legal for california. right now i have a folding stock. and i know thats not legal, do you have any know-how on california compliance?

  • @sootch00 okay thanks bro

  • I don't know what situation you'd have to get yourself into where your rifle would be inspected to see if it was 922r Compliant. I imagine a serious crime where the prosecutors were looking for anything else to add to the charges. Chances are the first crime is gonna be the one you really need to worry about. Very informative video.

  • lol, wtf is up with the music!!!??

  • can you have more than 7 US parts

  • @ThatHmoobGuy Yes. The purpose is to make it an "U.S. made" gun. The more U.S. Parts the better. Thanks~

  • @ThatHmoobGuy

It actually doesn't matter how many US parts you have. What matters is how many Imported parts you have. You can't have more than ten IMPORTED parts (the ones on the list) on the gun. The video is adding confusion by stressing 7 US parts. The pistol grip for example doesn't matter as long as you don't install a foreign PG. It adds confusion because imported SKSs have no pistol grip, so you are not getting rid of an imported part by adding one, so it does not impact 922r.

  • thanks

  • Are you near Columbia?

  • @Mossy500A Greenville,SC

  • brother i remember when the SKS could be bought for $150 all day long and now its unreal

  • Awww! Why would you want to get rid of that beautiful wood stock?? D: That would be the #1 thing that I would leave on my own SKS if I ever planned on modifying it, which I more than likely wouldn't. lol

  • @CrazyIvan1337 Not only that, he did it to a Russian SKS.

  • @CrazyIvan1337 It can be switched back. If anything he is preserving the nice old stock.

  • great information, keep up the good work.

  • haha, nice ending! Thanks for posting the good information.

  • 163 patriots and 5 socialists voted on this video.

  • 163 patriots and 5 socialists voted on this video.

  • oh god sootch dont do that to a russian ;_; chinese ok but the ussr doesn't exist any more history=destroyed

  • I always tried to stay within the law, but 9 22r just annoyed me to the point that I just do not care anymore. It is almost impossible to keep up and stay within the federal laws anymore, so I just gave up and said to hell with it all.

  • 922r Compliant? Please explain what that means. Thanks

  • its really senseless! it seems like the gooberment has decided the SKS is a killing machine so we have to change it from its original "Commie" design only to make it a much cooler looking and even more deadly killing machine that now can sport 30 rounds? Don can you tap and mount a scope on this gun? Any recomendations? You have inspired me to do mine this weekend!

  • @redstatein08 I may be able to answer that. There are many after market ways to attack a scope to the SKS. One way is to replace the dust cover with a railed dust cover. This does not keep zero well though. The next popular way is to attack a AK style mount to the side of the reciver. This requires drilling and tapping as well as some cut out for the stock (countined).

  • @redstatein08 The next way to attack a scope is to drill dibbits into the reciver which match with brackets attacked to the dust cover. That will secure the dust cover enough for decent zero to be kept. The final method I know of it to attack a scope forward of the action, the scout possition. This is easy if you have a stock such as the one featured in this video.

  • thank you great vid there is no info on this on u tube i would love to see a ak vid on this too.

  • @HELLER1116 AK 922r compliance video coming up next week.. Thanks~

  • @sootch00 This is very important for anyone who's doing a Saiga AK conversion. Mess up here, and one can find themselves 5 years in federal prison serving a felony federal firearms conviction that will permanently strip one of their 2nd amendment rights for the rest of their life (convicted felons are barred from gun ownership). And good luck trying to find a job after a felony conviction. Oh and you also lose your right to vote.

  • If your Saiga isn't legally 922r compliant, you better not be using mags over 10rds in it.

  • @sootch00 do you live in texas?

  • @Starzz62 I'm in South Carolina~

  • did not know

  • don, What are you talking about here? All SKS rifles are already legal. If other countries wanted to bring in more in the future then they would have to add US parts like the AKs that are new and being sold. You didn't have to change one single part on that SKS to be legal.

  • @semiautoriflelover Yes, all stock SKS's are legal. The problem is adding a magazine over 10 rds , pistol grip, collapsible stock or muzzle break, making it illegal. You can modify most Chinese SKS's without any problems because importation stopped in 1994.

It's really enforced but could be used against you later.

  • @semiautoriflelover Hell... Commie ObaMao has banned the reimportation of U.S. M-1 Garands & M-1 Carbines. The NRA, GOA, and Washington Times had articles about it. GOA (Gun Owner of America). The political action section on the GOA website; "Obama Administration Moves to Block the Sale of M1s to Law-abiding Americans

-- State Department intimates that these historic relics may be melted down"

  • So do they actually enforce 922r and do you know what the penalties for breaking it are? Ive seen people with and know people with sks rifles in violation and i want to put tapco mags on my yugo but i cant get the stock and stuff cause ct has really communist laws.

  • @tigerm48 I haven't heard of any enforcement but that could change. It's better to know the law than to be in error and find out too late. Thanks~

  • @tigerm48 "Ive seen people with and know people with sks rifles in violation"

Good job admitting in public that you're a witness / accessory to a federal crime / firearms violation. Now whatever trolling ATF agent simply has to get a federal judge to issue him / her a warrant for your personal info from Youtube. And next you know, they're busting down your door at 3:00am because you just gave them "probable cause" over the internutz. DOH!

  • Lucky for you, you're probably incorrect about the legal status of those SKS's - see Semiautoriflelover's comment.

  • @Everett07630 ya but I havent done anything wrong so they could bust in and such but my sks is still unmodified and legal so the most they could do is ask about the others who have sks rifles that arent ok. btw if there were tones of "trolling ATF agents" on youtube, they would have plenty of other people to arrest who have posted video evidence online. I just said stuff and last i checked, if i said i know a crack dealer, the police cant come harrass me about it.

  • @tigerm48 Basically, no one enforces it by itself. Heck, most police offers and similar likely know less about the 922r than you do. The problem comes in if they are trying to get you on something else. They search your house or whatever, and they find a non-compliant rifle there that is "evil" because it has 11 foreign parts instead of only 10. So now they want to add an illegal gun charge because you didn't buy a $10 American-made part. No one says laws have to make sense...

  • hey sootch are you going to the gun show saturday ???

  • @1mrgasgas1 I'll be there when it opens! Hope to stay most of the day. If you see me, say hello.

  • Great vid Sootch. One question though, you only need to do this if you want to modify your sks, right, or do you need to do this to any post 1990 sks?

  • @kporter85db Only if you're adding commercial parts like, 20-30 rd mags, collasible Stock, Muzzle break, or Pistol grip. Otherwise, you're legal if it's original condition. Thanks Bro-

  • 20 and 30 round mags are sold at gun shows and cheaperthandirt by themselves with no other parts. Are you saying it's illegal to install those on an SKS without further modifications?

  • @Machi74005 Yes, it is illegal unless your SKS rifle was imported before 1990. I haven't heard that they were enforcing the law concerning 922r but it's there regardless.

    It's really stupid IMHO

  • Excellent video.

  • Sootch, I really like your channel, but you messed that rifle up. I understand that everything that you did to it can be undone, but you had a beautiful Russian SKS with a solid stock. If you want to do that to an SKS get a Yugo or a Chinese. For one thing those are cheaper and less collectible than the Russians.

  • omg

i like old concepts hat are modernized

and this shit realy looks cool

  • i plead the tenth

  • the government needs to quit making good law abiding citizens out to be criminals

  • Can you keep the wood stock on there and still have it 922r compliant by putting in other U.S. made parts?

  • @GitzMeShiggles17 You'd have to find 3 parts on the list to replace with USA made parts. Tapco carries a line of USA wood stocks as well. I know.... it;s ridiculous!

  • @GitzMeShiggles17 Unless your stock has a pistol grip or folding stock or something, you don't have to worry about it.

  • the assault weapons ban was bullshit, and so is 922r wat ever its called

  • can't wait to see the stock video, i have a ati stock but it doesn't fit perfectly. so i need to take it out and wedge it somehow. thanks bud!

  • THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Another great and informative video Sootch, Thanks ! In Canada, we dont have any of those harsh regulations... EXCEPT.. our mags are pinned to 5 ( more of that bureaucratic nonsense !! ) I've got an ATI stock on my sks and it shoots like a dream, so thank you USA for making an awesome stock!

  • @scotts97lude LOL!....You're joking right? A mag pinned to 5 rounds seems a heck of allot harsher than replacing a bunch of original parts with quality U.S. made parts along w/ increasing the mag capacity to 20 rds. I'll take 922r over those Canadian gun restriction - you guys can't even own handguns, semi-auto AR-15's + AK's, or a full capacity SKS. Of course if my fellow Americans don't vote out the anti-gun CommieCrats, we may be subjected to the type of infringement that Canada has.

  • @Everett07630 Hey there ,Yes our Canadian gun laws are pretty draconian but we are allowed handguns and ar-15's but the ar 's and handguns have restricted status only to be used at the range. All rifle mag caps are limited to 5 and handguns are limited to 10.There are thankfully a lot of loopholes ie...cz858,robinson arms xcr,M1A and a great many others have non-restricted status.

  • @flashnflaky I hope the U.S. never heads in that direction. In fact, if Americans started voting in conservative-constitutionalists and libertarians, rather than these career authoritarian "progressive" / neo-socialist politicians, maybe some day most of the constitutionally questionable aspects of the NFA act of 1934, the federal gun control act of 1968, the 1986 federal Hughs Amendment (civil machine gun ban), and the anti-gun executive orders from previous administration could be repealed.

  • @Everett07630

No, I'm not joking. Any large caliber semi automatic rifle such as the sks is pinned to five rounds. Now there is a loop hole to have 10rd ar mags but apart from that no more then 5. The only good thing we have going for us that you guys dont in the states are the Norinco firearms, I picked up a M14 ( 308 ) norinco with scope mount, scope, three mags for 600 bucks. My norinco 1911 was a mere 300 bucks and it outshoots my friends s&w.

  • @scotts97lude Yep no more Norincos of us due to do both "Progress" Left leaning Daddy Bush / RINOS in 1989 and of course douchebag Bill Clinton + anti-2A DemoScums in 1994. I used to own a MAK-90 sold it on consignment sale through a local FFL / retailer. Norinco actually made some nice firearms - still got my stock / unmodified Norinco SKS.

  • it looks nice with the tapco kit on it..., but I sure did like that wood grain.

  • Man, what a great vid on the explanation of 922r!

  • sootch, not sure if any posted about the The Gun Wikki compliance section which is nice. There is one for SKS and one for AK and others of course and you just check or uncheck boxes. Youtube wont let me post a link.

  • hmm thet all gun or knives rulles shuld cam with description (whay it needet) tu provent peoples frome ( just want to be like thet) rulles, becose its not safty enimore in this kase!

  • thanks sootch iv been loving your vids ever since your p11 review

  • Great vid sootch been thinking about getting an yugo sks for a while now I'm going get it

  • HAHA! The end was the best part!

  • Cool!

  • Can we PLEASE pass some legislation to get rid of this idiosy!

  • @TacticalCitySlicker Then u need bush LOL I am a canadian and we have more stupid gun laws!

  • im glad u posted this because i never even heared of this, but it seems like mine is now compliant.

  • It's great that you put this out there to help keep SKS owners within the bounds of law, but I must say it is a complete load of crap that we must comply with these ridiculous laws.

  • lol @ the very end!!!

  • honeslty over here i doubt anyone would say anything even if my sks was totally non compliant

  • Thank you Sootch00. :)

  • nice to see the vid sootch00. I dont have the only vid up any more lol

  • @xxxM85xxx Make sure you send a video response and I'll post it. Thanks Bro~

  • thanks for going through that - i never understood what all that was about. thx

  • Sootch, judging by people's comments I think you should have made it more clear in the video that the rifle only needs to be 922(r) compliant if someone modifies the rifle from the original configuration IE. only installing the 20 round tapco magazine. If the rifle is in the original military configuration then no modification to the rifle is necessary.

  • You know, when the "federal government" is the group of criminals it is and has always been, I say who cares? Are we paying attention to them??? Why do we comply with EVIL? Man no one is watching the watchers...

  • So, how far are we to take this? If the Fed says I can't have anything but a musket, are we supposed to just accept it? Don't get me wrong, I'm not bashing sootch00, I'm just saying I personally don't think anyone should actually do these changes. If you are lucky enough to lay hands on a good non-reg gun. Sit on it.

  • Every ATF agent I have ever spoke to....upwards of 25....All said that 922r is only for criminals, they said the only reason they would ever use it against it is if you used it to commit a felony....They said other wise you will never have to worry about it....And what ever you do KEEP the 10rnd original mag.

  • @olchevyman Oh SURE they won't use it against you....lol. If your semi-auto rifle slamfires it could be used against you. You should read up on a case in the state of WI involving an owner of an AR-15. You should also watch the documentary "The Gang" produced by the JFPO - it tells how ATF entraps people, lies under oath, including murder / cover-ups, and suppresses evidence that proves innocence (under "tax laws", the ATF is always exempt from testifying about their firearm testing methods).

  • @Everett07630 4 people in my Family are ATF.....Maybe they do things differently in other states but that IS how it is run out of Georgia. Oh, and mine did slam fire one time it went through the 8 rnds left in it in like a second.

  • @olchevyman Did you clean out all of the cosmoline from the bolt when you first bought it? Tapco also has a replacement spring-loaded firing pin kit for the SKS.

  • Btw, the David Olafson gun case states otherwise about how the ATF rolls - Olafson convicted on a bogus "illegal machine gun" charge over a malfunctioning Olympic Arms AR-15. That case made national headlines back in 2008 and sparked widespread outrage by the gun owning community, 2nd amendment civil rights groups, and conservative journalists. Lou Dobbs first broke the case to the public's attention on CNN. Olafson got railroaded by your ATF pals.

  • @Everett07630 Yep, some how while shooting it a little piece of dirt got in beside the firing pin and essentially locked it in the forward position. Trust me it's not fun when your not expecting it...Luckily I was shooting it and not someone else..

  • @olchevyman That's a big 10-4 - slam-fires are dangerous. I'm a bit OCD on my SKS's bolt / firing pin. After cleaning your SKS and before a range session you should shake the bolt and watch for free movement in the firing pin and also listen for it. Should sound like a slight rattle.

  • If you purchase an SKS from a gun shop...do you have to worry about this?

  • @ROFLpwnedvideos Yes, If there are altercations to the rifle of any of the parts on the list, but the obvious one are easy to spot. If the rifle looks stock, it probably is.

  • We own an SKS and I wasn't aware of 922. I knew imported semi-auto's had to be in a sporting configuration but I was under the impression, once they're here modifications could be made no problem. It appears I was miss informed. Ours SKS is in the original configurations but I have no clue when it was imported. I understand CA firearm law well but I had better start reading up on Federal law as well. Thanks a lot heads up and as always great review.

  • @nelsonboy707 It applies to guns that were imported after 1990... depending when your SKS was originally produced, and when it was imported to the U.S., it might be considered a "historic / curio" relic.

  • Thanks for sharing this important information Sootch!

    Long Live the SKS.

    ✭✭✭✭✭

  • Why dont they come to my door and see if my rifle is 922r complient we will talk hahahaha

  • I like them the way Simonov designed them but good info all the same.

  • It was cool watching you make that rifle.

  • You didnt replace that Russian Red stock with the Tapco stuff did you??? The Russian SKS's are by far the most good looking of the sks's,one reason is because of the wood....Just my opinon anyway. :(

  • This aint a problem in Canada, thank goodness wense we have enough problems already when it comes to draconian gun laws. I prefer it in the original wood configuration although I did put a duck bill mag on mine.

  • So does that mean that the SKS was illegal before you put the tapco stock on it?

  • @tdunker7 No, the rifle is legal as is. Unless you change one of the reguated parts, it's compliant in the original configuration.

  • Sootch, thanks so much for this video "guide" and the Tapco Link . Determining if an SKS is 922 compliant is confusing to a lot of folks (me included). This helps a bunch.

  • Enjoyed the video........ I still think that 922R is just a way to sell U.S. parts and make money. It is just another dumb law like GUN CONTROL. 922R or not the weapon still kills.

  • So, you end up with a better rifle. FTW.

  • 10? I thought it was 12?

  • Great vid Sootch!!!!! Got me thinking about that old SKS t hat hasn't been getting any love for years, maybe it should get one of these kits.

  • i kind of like that... good job SOOTCH

  • I'm so confused. Why does this matter?

  • Thanks for the video, I think your brave for putting a 922r " how to" out. Every forum I see this topic come out on it usually gets beat to death with if and thens. Keep up the great work!

  • very informative... thanks for another great video...

  • the 922r is one of the dumbest more moronic laws set in place. I hope that the 922r is next on the chopping block soon!!

  • @makun16 That depends on if enough of the pro-gun Republican are voted into office - remember to vote for pro-gun politicians come the Nov elections. The fact is, most Democrats don't support gun rights.

  • @Everett07630 The problem with the 2 party system is that both democrats and republicans are the same and just as corrupt. They come off as the opposition against each other but really have the same masters given them orders. I vote for like minded conservatives that knows our country is a constitutional republic founded on christian believes. And it is religion that holds a nation together. I was not raised religious but I support religions of peace-islam isn't one of them.

  • @Everett07630 The other things that would be great for this country is the dissolve of BATF and the IRS. Completely worthless agencies. There should be virtually no gun laws for the law abiding citizen as I feel that they do infringe on our birth rights.

  • @makun16 Well they're called jackboot thugs for reason - Bill of Rights need not apply to the victims of govt bureaucracies that have no issues w/ lying under oath to convict innocent people. More convictions = more funding for an agency (justifying their so called jobs). Ah, but with the "Progressives" bankrupting the country for the last 110 years, the economy heading for another Great Depression, looks like the whole big govt charade is bound to collapse itself.

  • @Everett07630 That is for sure!! This nation was not founded nor set up for big government. Our four fathers fled from tyranny now the sick minded nut jobs that run this country is runny us right back into it.

  • Aside from being a legal compliance, this makes the rifle much more tactical looking and lighter. Very nice.

  • i'v been looking for this info for a long time, batf's site sux just a bunch of lawyer talk .thanks for your vids very informative. i'll check out tapco's site.thanks again!

  • none of my other tools are 922 compliant. Try find an electric tool with 10 parts made in the USA. Gun Laws are pointless.

  • Does a US made bipod count as one of the compliant parts?

  • It doesn't look like an SKS any more :) It is funny how our government can ship jobs over seas but require so many gun parts to be made in the US

  • My best friend bought a nice SKS a few months ago, and we used to fire it a lot before he went off to training. I love that gun :D
