I'm white, have been to Japan a few times... I find the racist "banning" is mostly to keep foreigners out of what I'll just refer to as "sex establishments", or establishments (certain clubs, public bathing places) where foreigners have gone in and caused trouble. We don't often know the correct protocol and over-step the boundaries -- I also feel that they don't want to feel USED BY foreigners. They aren't Thailand, Japan doesn't want a reputation for being a place to go for a cheap thrill.
I wish we could do that in my country. Good for them, it's their country, not yours. I'll be there in 5 months for a week and if i can't enter somewhere i'm not going to cry. Get over yourselves.

I've never been to Japan, but I know of people that have. I agree Japanese culture does favor Japanese people, whats wrong with it? i think this is totally understandable.... not every japanese person can speak english, russian or spanish as in these cases and they probably get soo pissed off from having to deal with foreigners too.
I've been to Japan many times, and have traveled throughout the entire country, and I've only seen a couple of signs that say foreigners are not allowed. Usually you'll see these signs for different kinds of clubs or bars. You might also see them outside public bath houses and such. They try to avoid awkward situations as much as possible. I've heard that to embarrass someone is to insult someone, and you can sometimes hear them talk about it. Tokyo is friendly to foreigners.
Us Japanese self image means a lot to us(more then other people), and can do extreme damage if it's not in our favor. A lot of us welcome "Gaijin" because you guys make life a whole lot interesting(good interesting) and do not care much for yourself images as we do.
There is no problem with perserving your culture and being proud of it. It's your country, do as your please. You guys don't have to bend backwards for foreingers unlike many other countries who do.

yesterday went to tsutaya video rental with my japanese wife's card. they wouldnt let me rent a video and wanted confiscate my card as they didnt trust it was my wife's and probably thought i found it or stole it somewhere. eventually they let me leave. so i call my wife she comes i give her the card she enters and rent a video at the same cashier i was with the same mother fucker clerk. of course she can rent it. then she asked the guy why dont you check my ID maybe this is not my rentalcard

Absolutely no different from the places I've been to in the US where you can be shot on the spot for being not-white and the shooters GET AWAY WITH IT, usually on some bullshit self-defense or property protection claim. Racism is everywhere, but this video implies that the entirety of Japan is racist, which is simply not true - in fact, they're becoming more and more progressive in this regard, while unsurprisingly the US is going backwards.

This is my point on this matter, I might be wrong.
I've been to Japan a couple time and found the same sign in some parts.
Most of them are preferably equal to 'Members Only' back in the west.
However I found most of the time what cause this is a simple thing that no staff could speak any other languages except japanese.
If we compare to Korea or China, Japanese people in general dont confident enough dealing with other languages.

I've been to Japan many times, and have traveled throughout the entire country, and I've only seen a couple of signs that say foreigners are not allowed. Usually you'll see these signs for different kinds of clubs or bars. You might also see them outside public bath houses and such. They try to avoid awkward situations as much as possible. I've heard that to embarrass someone is to insult someone, and you can sometimes hear them talk about it. Tokyo is friendly to foreigners.

Us Japanese self image means a lot to us(more then other people), and can do extreme damage if it's not in our favor. A lot of us welcome "Gaijin" because you guys make life a whole lot interesting(good interesting) and do not care much for yourself images as we do.
Go to japan and a lot of Gaijin stuff is there.

we paid the entrance fee, take our clothes off easily. When we reach the bath, i found many locals 'flee' in a discreet manner ..
I realize this 15 mins later when we back to get dress up, then i saw the same faces back to the bath again.
Im think positively, maybe they were taking a cigarette break or something ~ or maybe some other thing happens?

I haven't seen 'Japanese Only' signs but I have seen signs that say they 'will' rent apartments to foreigners. (gaikokujin-ka外国人可)

Wow, I wasn't aware of that! That's wrong but there are dumb Westerns who go to Japan and act like total fools. In those places they might practice things related to Japanese culture... things foreigners won't associate with and sabotage.
