  • Kinda fucked up if you ask me, even at the time it aired.

  • am i the only one who finds this really creepy and offensive?

  • too bad it didnt happen

  • we need, as humans, to come back from the brink or else nothing great will ever happen.

  • All the great things we could have accomplished....then we elected Bush and Obama and they sucked all the greatness out of the country

  • I'm gonna cry I'm gonna cry I'm gonna - *sobs*

  • man i started crying really wish this happened but no one change the past i grew up with that guy as superman and i will never forget him

  • i really had wished he would of been able to walk again. but now he's walking in heaven with his wife by his side.

  • got this on tape when I taped the Super Bowl back then. It was only aired maybe once or twice and then never again.

  • A spirit like that of Christopher Reeve will never die. It will remain legendary to me forever. He is an undying inspiration to me, and he was a true-to-life Superman. Rest in peace, Mr. Reeve. I will always look to you to remember that any dream is possible, and to never lose hope.

  • This always makes me cry, I can't help it!!! This is Superman getting out of that chair like I always hoped he would!!!!! The day that Christopher died....Superman too died! This is beautiful and I wish that he had the time to see it come to fruition....God rest your soul Superman Chris...you'll always be my hero!!!

  • this always wierded me out, the idea of a guy stuck in a wheelchair being digitally composited onto somebody else and then thrust foreward as an "I'M FIXED".

yeah, beautiful thoughts and wonderful possibilities. but we arent there yet.

not even close. and lastly BOTH A.I.D.S. and Reeve's Injury happen most of the time by the choice of the individual to engage in UNSAFE activities.

look up how many people of nobility were KILLED by their horses.

I'm giving an different viewpoint that's all..

  • 11 years later... nothings changed

  • @conwayandwhitmanman 11 years later people are for some reason fascinated with 8 people from New jersey

  • this was so wrong when they did this!

  • The most depressing thing about this video is that we aren't even scratching the surface of the amazing things we THOUGHT we would be accomplishing at this time.

  • oh thats soooo sad now :(

  • Woooooow!!! The Superman.

  • "In the future, Christopher Reeve will rise from the dead, a stiff, rigor mortis-stricken zombie."

  • i thought he was paralyzed from neck down!

  • The best superman.....so far ;)

  • awww :(

    *tear*

love you Christopher Reeve, rest in peace

  • Nope, it's 2010 and all we have is Twilight and Lady Gaga. The future blows!!!

  • @dsimpsons1

    lololololol

  • fuckin cry everytime i see this!

  • tearscome everytime I watch this, it was his dream to walk again. it makes me sad that he never got that dream

  • When i saw this on tv i just about crapped myself.

  • aww its so sad he past away.

  • Ironically, the only year that was mentioned in this commercial was the year Mr. Reeves died.

  • Who the fuck would dislike this?

  • Christopher Reeve is a Legend, and pray he's in a better place now.

  • this is hilarious. like a shitty hollywood movie.

  • I wished so hard that this might have been real :( RIP C.R. The one and only Superman -3

  • if that would have happened, it would have been so damn cool.

  • when I watched for the first time I thought it was real :')

  • r.i.p my hero.when i saw this commercial agian in 2004 i cryed like a baby

  • @Codinia: "Bedsore"!?!? It was cardiac arrest due to an allergic reaction to meds he was taking...

  • @DeepSouthWrestling1

    No, it was kryptonite.

  • @lesrambles1 : I stand corrected...

  • if there was anybody that would walk again after what he went through...it was superman...its a shame something like a bed sore is what did him in.....

  • To be honest, can't say I liked this commerical. Nothing against stem-cell research this commerical just kinda creeped me out. Good wishful thinking but showing him walking....

  • I love that ad. I remember the first time I watched it. I was so young I sadly thought it was true.

  • This video brings tears to my eyes. How beautiful

  • Oh man I was about to cry. Oh how much I wished that day had come, when the broken Man of Steel was once again unbreakable. God Bless you Chris.

  • Although I get the message here, this feels somewhat patronizing to me. May Reeve R.I.P. though

  • R.I.P. dis man is inspiring 2 everyone n everyone better respect him

  • ironic that this commercial is from 2000, the year when Bush banned federal funding of stem cell research (stem cell research, of course, being the greatest hope for spinal cord research).

  • Amen! I don't believe he gives a rat's pussy about the wheelchaired citizens of America. I will never forget or forgive him for that.

  • How terribly tragic these wonderful things are yet to occur. I am only 22, but I fear that we won't see such achievements in my lifetime, with humanity being so focused on war, greed and destruction.

  • Someday this WILL happen for spinal chord injured people. We have to make it happen.

  • That's amazingly sad and joyous at the same time.

  • Man, he was tall during Superman. Tom Welling, Brandon Routh , and Christopher Reeve were all around the same time height. Although I heard out of all of them, Chris Reeve was the tallest.

  • And you want to know something that I notice every now and then when I look at Tom Welling and Brandon Routh, Sometimes their features resemble Chris Reeve. I saw at many times on the Superman movie. Brandon Routh would do a look or 2 just like Reeve. He even sounded like him sometimes. Did you experience any of that too?

  • I always felt that Tom Welling was the closest in looks and character to Reeves.

Brandon Routh suck the joy and life out of superman

  • Tom Welling does resemble Christopher at times. I get chills when I see it. I then look at my sis and ask her didnt he just like Christopher right their. She would say "Wow yeah thats scary"!Im A big fan of Christopher and superman! Im just glad they casted Tom Welling. I think somebody saw the looks he does and immediately took that into consideration!

  • Why can't he be cast in the next movie, its not like he's a big film star that he should be. Routh just doesn't have it.

  • I think it was the script for SUPERMAN RETURNS that kinda did in Routh.

I thought Routh was solid, but there wasn't anything for him on script.

    Oh, I remember this aired...wow.

  • when brandon routh was in the clarke kent role in "returns" with the glasses nd stuff, he definitely looked like chris reeve

  • Yeah you are so dam right lol! It freaked me out at times. He also talked like him at times. That shit gave me chills lol!

  • I know! I was so blown away by his looks and his smile even the way he looked in the suite and glasses along with the red and blue suite, I was so dumb strucked. I wish they did another Superman film with him only make up for that previous mess. Sorry SR didn't do justice for me.

  • Christopher was also more muscular and had a wider chest and shoulders.

  • Oh, if only that were true! :(

  • @novamist i feel the same. it would be so sublime and moving to watch something like this on TV for real :(

  • yepp he was a great artist..

  • The sad thing is before he died he had some movement in his fingers and had some feeling in his body.

  • Listen up anti-chris reeve, I know this is a free country and you all have a right to say whatever you want but how about showing some respect here! I and other Chris supporters are here to honor a man we consider a great activists. Something Bush and Channey will never become, those close minded biggots.

  • I cry every time I see this. Christopher Reeve was a great man. Thank you very much for this video.

  • Hey, you didn't have to know the man to shed a tear for him. He used his body as a guinea pig for spinal chord injury research. The most you can do is show some respect.

  • was that actually him?

  • Actually, based on a behind the scenes featurate that I saw in the making of this commercial. That image of the Christopher Reeves walking was in fact a mix of cgi with a body stand in. Good effects

  • don't be a dick

  • I don't care if it's just great video editing, i get a tear every time i watch this

  • Same here. RIP Chris.

  • @BlondeItalian Me too!

  • @BlondeItalian Me too! And I still do whenever I see this.

  • If only this ad represented reality! Very effective - if only Chris had lived to see his dreams come true.

  • It would probably take decades for a stem cell-based cure for spinal cord injuries. I read the other day that the spinal cord in injured mice were re-activated using nanotechnology. Protein cells were injected in the spines of the mice soon after injury. The mice could soon move the paralysed limbs. It wasn't a cure, but a huge improvement over paralysis. The research was done at Northwestern University. Human trials start in two years, after the protein's toxicity is tested.

  • That gave me chills it was so good

  • god bless superman...

  • Long Live The Man They Called "Superman"..Wouldn't it be great if this really would have happen...Rest In Peace Christopher Reeve

  • how did they make this comercial?

  • With some chicken wire and a dildo, like McGyver and shit.

  • It was made in 2000 using computer graphic imagery CGI.

  • Thank you all neuroscientists and researchers whp help humanity.

  • Long live the memory of Christopher Reeves

  • Gutting. If only he lived to walk again.

  • thankyou Christopher Reeve

  • YES WE MUST RE-ANIMATE REEVE's Corpse!

  • YES WE MUST RE-ANIMATE REEVE's Corpse!

  • this was a great commercial...its sad that the real superman is gone...

  • aw that is so sad. i wish he didnt die

  • This saddens me...

  • Too bad he is dead now. :(

  • what a powerful message that sends to the way we think

  • oh please!

  • sadly,he never saw his dream to walk again, but one day many ppl who can't walk will.

  • isnt th@ superman? wat hapnd 2 him?

  • he fell of a horse...became parilized..and died

  • painfull to watch. Long live Reeve

  • wow....

    wow...

    when was this made?

    wow...

  • holy geez thats sad.

    youre my hero chris. :)

  • How sad to see this years after Reeve has passed away. What a wonderful thought, but like Barbaro, did anyone believe it could really come to fruition?

  • wow, they called that one

  • That made me cry. I miss Christopher Reeve, he was a classy guy.

  • There is always hope, maybe not now but like he said; 'so many amazing things can happen in the world' the question is are you doing your part in helping to find the cure for all those disease that you listed?

  • Back in 2000 it was nice to think the "world" cared about finding a cure for AIDS and Cancer as well as giving spinal chord injuries a second chance, in reality the "world" actually only cares about the price of oil and has demonstrated over the last few years what it is actually prepared to do to protect that oil. Things will get a lot worse before they get better.

  • Nice attitude. Things surely won't get better as long as people like you keep thinking that.

  • thats not "the world" thats america. Which as you may not know, is ONE of the few hundred countries in the world.

  • Gday Old mate, dont get me wrong, but you and I (I am in Australia) are part of the world that loves oil. My government - that I pay a lot of tax to - is spending a lot of time supporting the US, againts my wishes, and your govt provides tax havens for some of the US and UK companies that are currently supporting and profiting from the war. If you live in Ireland or Australia , whether you like it or not, you are part of the "world" at war.

  • Heroes fly-over scene alert!

  • This still gives me chills. RIP Chris.

  • That was fantastic. He made me "beleive a man could fly".

  • Wow. Absolutely the best minute of video I have ever seen in my life.

  • I remember seeing this somewhere else and thinking, wow wouldnt that be great! How sad to see that the Reeves family lost both Christopher and Dana is such a short time to two horrible deaths.

  • We could have made progress in all those areas if we weren't busy funding a pointless killfest. Sad.

  • wow, 2007 now and no cure for cancer...no cure for aids...christopher reeves is dead. Looks like that investment firm doesn't have the best info on future trends, huh?

  • You might not believe me but there is a cure for cancer, its a type of surgery thing, the ppl who discovered it just doesnt want to release the cure to the public because some companies who sell "cures" for cancer might sue them and theyed be owned...but well w.e a friend told me that >_>

  • sorry but i have to tell you.. thats total bullshit

  • uh...just a thought smartsnail...is being an idiot like being high all the time?

  • One of the few commercials that are actually touching. Great stuff.

  • what a wonderful commercial!

  • dont fix the retards enhance the normals

  • tu veux pas te faire arranger hahaha

  • RIP SUPERMAN

  • that man at the end had a black baby

  • I guess it trying to point out that he adopted the black kid and hat he made a different to improve the world

  • that kid is not black. He's the same white kid running around in the beginning of the commercial.

  • That made me tear up.

  • Long Live Super Man.

  • Oh man... that's so beautiful. Didn't think I would tear up like I did.

  • Tear-jerking and touching.

  • Phenominal! I recall years ago because of this commercial, the phones were ringing off the hook! wow!

  • LOL Bush killed Reeve...LMAO @ liberals. Stupid fuckers.

  • If Bush killed Reeve, that's just another reason for me to love the man. Chris was an egomaniac. He was a great Superman, the best actually, but Chris the man was a jerkoff.

  • Christopher Reeves, The superman, what ever happened to him, is he going to make another movie cause I would love to see him in smallville again, he's awesome, i feel bad cause he's Wife passed away shame,I always thought he would go first.hahA i'm just kidding i know he's dead RIP CR you'll always be the true superman in my eyes.

  • ...uhh *silence*

no, he won't be making another movie :(

  • wtf is the matter with you its no laughing matter

  • beautiful...

  • miss him bad.

  • Christopher Reeve your a legend

  • I loved Chris Reeve! i never saw this commerical but i heard about it! it is a shame that it never became a reality but i know that he is in heaven walking and smiling with his beloved dana!

  • its not bringing back to life *sigh*...and I doubt you even know about stem cell research. Btw, adult stem cell research is completely ethical, in fact the church doesn't have complaints...its embryonic stem cell reasearch that is a problem.

  • Congratualtions, you're a fucking idiot.

  • SheSheNee, you're a fucking idiot.

  • That was extremely beautiful. So much so that i wish he was alive. He was the best Superman and will always be.Tall(6'4'') dark and handsome its a damn waste to see him get destroyed by a horse riding accident.Christopher Reeve,Once a Superman, always a Superman.

  • His head looked weirdly small in that.

Sorry I don't have anything more philosophical to say.

  • That is because it was a computer version of him...his head was weirdly small when he was in the wheelchair..and they used that image to make this commercial.

  • Beautiful, and tragic. I'd have loved to see him walk again. He made such herculean progress before his death. The message of the commercial was clear and inspiring, even if it was for a corporate purpose. A shame it was pulled because some idiots misunderstood it and complained. Reeve was and should remain an inspiration for us to do the best we can for others.

  • god shut up liberals, Bush didn't kill Reeve. Reeve was killed by an accident that paralyzed him, Bush didn't cause the accident. Go move to France.

  • No, Bush didn't kill CR; he denied him hope of a cure. But Bush has killed 50-100,000 Iraqi and Afghani civilians.

So you don't like criticism of POTUS. It was one thing that made the US great. We needn't leave: Bush and his Congress have made it unrecognizable. This country has secret prisons, makes people disappear, tortures, and arrests those who question the government's policies. No. This is no longer America. One would have to move from this country to live in a democracy.

  • good message

  • Maybe he weighed the risks and decided that this would give his cause a visible platform for discussion. Remember, too, that his medical care was EXTREMELY expensive and that personal dignity might have played a role in his accepting the ad. He wanted to be a man and not have to depend on his friends, like Robin Williams, for his well-being. Sold out? I disagree.

  • I don't cry, but this one made the waterworks go into overdrive. It is tragic that he didn't live long enough to see it happen.

Would stem cell research have allowed this to come to fruition? Inconclusive. The research currently does not stand up to scrutiny that spinal cord cells can be regenerated from stem cells. So, no Mr. Bush is not directly to blame, but not completely exonerated either.

  • Bush is a commie! He can also kiss my ass!

  • this made me cry when I first saw it that year. I have seen it again before now. Even still, i get teary eyed watching it. Oh what could have been if only they would make stem cell research legal in the US. Damn Bush... I know if he was paralyzed we would be the first one for it.

  • That was SO Beautiful- shame it didn't actually happen, yet lets hope eventually that can change for the majority.

  • Just PERFECT! :'(

  • Legend29! Don't lose this commerical, it is a message that must be pass on.

  • I am of course terribly drunk and on several perscription medications as I am writing, so I can not be held responsible for anything in the above.

  • I agree. It was the mans right to walk again! And because of this Cowboy president, chewing his tobacco, scratching his balls and thinking about ways to scare his own people as well as others to gain money a wonderful, bright, caring man like Christopher Reeve was forced to sit in a chair, breathing through a vent. It makes me sick, and it´s not the America I was born and raised in and that I love.

  • In a long way bush killed reeve, if he has´t stopped the stem cell research, maybe chris and other people whit spinal cord injury should walking back in 2002. And Don´t care about my user name, I´m only a big fan.

  • Amen to that first thing that you said about Bush killing Chris. I have said that since Chris died.

  • Man, this made me cry. It was a shame the way Chris got injured. I wish he was still here and able to do what he does in this video. He always and forever will be the one true Superman!!

  • im starting to cry now... im a huge fan of christopher reeve. I grew up with his movie. And i once dreamt of becoming a superman when i was a child because of him. thanks for this clip. God bless.

  • I know how you feel, I am a writer and I was working on a story in the hopes that it would become a film and he would star in it maybe with me.

  • Fighting back my tears and my anger towards the religous, conservatives, Bush supporters for voting out stem cell research. I hate Bush, oh I hate him. I hate anyone who stopped the stem cell research.

  • I can't agree more orlandobabe. I wonder how Bush would feel if something as tragic as this happened to himself or someone in his family?

  • Wow that was really good, mann thats a real good tear sheadder

  • the asian guy who starts clapping is my dad!! thanks for putting this up!

  • its very very very sad that we'll never see this happen in real life.

  • I wrote the music for this commercial and was working on it long before the effects were complete so Mr. Reeves head was floating around the screen a quite a bit before they locked it in to place. I remember it really creeping me out , but I'm very proud to have been a part of it. Many people were confused by it and thought it was real. They pulled it immediatly. It only ran for a day or two. Oh well. It's a living!

  • I agree. I wish this could've become a reality.

  • One of the most amazing/inspirational things that I have ever seen!
