  • This is such a wonderfully simple idea, we'd love to see this implemented on a wide scale across New York city. Great job!

  • To be honest...the energy spend on digging those metals, make 'em into gear and chains; to make clean energy.....is balance out!

  • @WaiWu spoken like a true armchair quarterback....also technically the gearing for these systems is already sitting on a shelf in some store somewhere waiting to be purchased so there is no extra energy being used to manufacture these mechanisms.

  • probably these doors would give back the energy used to build them like in a million years

  • Geothermal Energy could power the world for 4,000 years by itself, and its renewable until the earth is no longer here. but there is no money in it because they cant charge you something that's in such high abundance, like air. so it wont be done.

  • we all should be dead... that's the best way we can save energy

  • this is really naive. why dont just put a wind turbine on top of everybuilding rather than modifying every revolving doors.

  • why not both?

  • go do it yourself honchung

  • @honchung these doors are chic

  • Just give me some credit when finished ;)

  • Yeah! Everyone in this planet wastes energy in some way or another! Actually i'm sorprised that the ones recording didn't see that detail (or the ones editing)I have been working in some project like this and I have a tip for the inventors: Don't use the revolving system as a motor itself, use it as a energy charger. Like those toy cars that you need to give torch and then you release them and go for some distance, use a system like that, the saved energy would do more RPM than just one person.

  • >>>They should utilize the energy from prison systems. The inmates spend 10-30% of each day working out.

I say turn them into hamsters and make some good use out of them. Let`s power this city one inmate at a time.

(Note: this was a joke comment. So save your energy. No pun intended)

  • I'm sorry.... but the amount of energy they are putting into this they could be saving the world in a multitude of different ways. Seriously. A door can't even light a tourch because it doesn't have enough rotations per minute. So if we went and spent 10,00 on 4 of these things it will be running 2 lightbulbs. That's going to happen.

  • Agreed

  • The did address the RPM issue and pointed out that they had a lot of torque, torque can be converted to RPM.

  • quote from the clip you just watched: "In a typical NYC building, the revolution door could power 16 flourescent bulbs for an entire day"

  • In 2:14 a computer monitor can be spotted at the end of the room and is turned on!!!! Wouldn't it be better to shut it off when not using it? Energy wasting awareness my bal$#&%ls!

  • >>>That's very observant of you.

    Damn good point.

And shutting it off is a "duh technology" which they said is their favourite, but don't utilize at home. And I'm damn sure there are more monitors than revolving doors.

    DUH!

    hahaha These girls are daft.

  • I think Prisons should have power turbines and they get cents for a certain amount of power they do generate

  • Maybe they should use inmates like humans are used in the Matrix

  • Not efficient.

The oil that goes into the extra food (machines, pesticides, fertiliser, transport etc) that the inmates eat because of the extra effort of turning the turbines would generate more electricity by just being poured into a generator.

  • This is good idea? TV in front will eat more energy then door will creat. if you want looking for energy look belove your feets geotermalenergy is cleanest way to creat abudance of energy you do not need to such new ideas wich do not give any good we have technology and resurs for abudance of energy if we just stop thinking just about allself but in all ...... bored

  • And why this energy that you speak of, is so little known?? It is still no viable?? (I´m just curious and want to know a bit more)

  • be open minded and active thinking :) good luck for you and your interesting in new and cleaner world :) lame ok bye

  • hmmm.... i'd rather stick to rooftop gardens, solar panels, or placing hydroelectric generators in downspouts. This may provide enough energy to run the LED light bulb over the doorway as you walk through and shut off as soon as the door stops spinning.

  • The display takes more energy. That's like inventing fireproof matches.

  • Haha at 16 lightbulbs for a whole day... uhhh...

  • japanese scientist invented a flexible display in color who only take 5volt to work ...

  • Is it cost effective?

  • cool thing!

    great invention...i like this! :)

  • It's really a duh technology, because its 'duh' easy to explain how it's not working. When that door is chained to a generator, it requires more energy to open it, thus, making this device a simple energy converter. A lot more energy could actually be gained using a self-closing door and generating the energy from it's closing movement. That would require no extra energy to open it, but would generate some extra energy while the door closing. How about that technology?

  • great idea to have a display which defeats the purpose!

    smart invention otherwise

  • @JWJSSIF haha it struck my mind aswell...

  • ...now add solar panels to every building and household in the US. convert all street lights and outdoor lighting to LEDs. and plant shrubbery and trees on top of buildings in the citys.( they help cool a building, and clean the air) all this could be ran with a new branch of the gov. this would also give americans jobs.

    *DUH TECHNOLOGY

  • Awesome!

  • What a silly idea.

  • A chain-driven system?

Additional friction reducing the efficiency, woo!

    ... While adding reliability, woo!

    So, yeah.

  • That's pretty cool!

  • Hmm, my company has done the opposite; the revolving doors are powered, so you don't have to push them =/

  • mabey you could sell both and get the best of both worlds

  • Brilliant.

  • GREAT idea!

  • Same reason that the electric car designed in the 50s wasnt made where the fly wheel was a huge alternator to recharge the batteries and it was SO efficient that the OIL and government put a slam on it, this would make to much sense and AL gore couldnt make another BILLION off his now proven false global warming

  • @Docthewrench

Are you saying global warming is not true?

  • how has global warming been proven false?

  • The gyroscopic force of such a massive object would inhibit the car from being able to turn properly, and the weight of it would waste massive amounts of energy to resistance. If you think otherwise, then go do some research. If you're right you will be millionaire. But you're not, because obviously you don't know how to do research since you think global warming is a conspiracy.

  • Not only the 50's, the idea was competing alongside the ICE in the early days of the automobile, Porsche made a couple for richies.

  • this is a simple great idea. I think showing people how much they made is just a waste of the electricity a person just made, though. Just knowing they made some without having it holographically projected in front of them is enough. Photovoltaic windows would also be a really easily integrateable source of power.

  • awesome idea....and Carmen Trudell is cute as hell! sorry!

  • cool thats inventive

  • LOL

  • nice! simple, but works

  • these inventions could save us so much electricity

  • thats pretty cool

  • this is a great idea! imagine implementing them in kinder-gardens...all that energy!! :)))

  • lol yea, on those merry go rounds they push around, those things are always in motion =D

  • your 2 cool.

  • Idiot!

  • FAIL
