  • Can you make a video for me In drawing a pin up illustration i seriously dont know what im doing at all with the phototshop illustrator

  • Hey love your drawing! Can you tell me where I can find this anime? Thanks :)

  • WTF

  • That was really nice. It will help me a great deal. I have tablet but I was using the pen tool followed by a created action to apply a brush stroke but it doesn't change the thickness of the curve throughout like this. Thanks. I will also check you out on Deviant. I have an account there as well: EsBest

  • not sure if this is further down in the comments, but just to clarify, you are making closed shapes for every "line?" clever

  • @ToAsTy42o Yup! It's a good way to control the shape of the line, but creating a custom brush can work just as well.

  • WOW that must have been a bunch of work :D

  • @passikg Definitely, but it's pretty fun :)

  • love it how much is this program?

  • @sithlary I bought the Adobe CS5 Master Collection which was about $2500, but Illustrator alone is a little under $600 - the student version is way cheaper if you're in school, though.

  • This is awesome good tutorial

  • Great tutorial. I'm just making the transition from 3D art to a more traditional 2d medium, digital of course, and this really helps a noob like me out. Getting used to Illustrator is a bit daunting, thanks for making it just a bit easier. Love the tips.

  • @raddarfx Thanks! I've been wanting to dip a toe into 3D art which I find daunting, so that's funny :)

  • I love your drawings and I love your voice! Instant subscribe!

  • @Twillyane Thank you dear! There will be more to come soon!

  • how did u do that with Mouse or Pen tablet or touch screen monitor

  • @nagendra1988 Wacom Bamboo then, but now I use a Cintiq 21UX

  • Great video, I love your art style :)

I like how you do your lines, I was wondering if you could maybe make a tutorial on how to use them? I am a complete newbie on Adobe Illustrator CS3 and everytime I try to make a lineart I end up raging mad with fustration ^^; I'm use to PS Elements. I'm also new to macs.

    :)

  • tbh...just watchin this vid while its in a faster motion...i wouldnt mind watchin at regualr speed..

  • no kiss? :(

  • Wow did you fast forward the video or you are that fast?

  • @Jaguar2358 Ha, I wish! I speed most of my videos up so that they're not hours of footage separated across multiple vids. There are a few videos and segments in real time where I do more specific techniques.

  • @chrisknowsthis thank you for your answer, you are awesome.

  • i saw this on da and it looked really nice :)

  • @rockinamber18 Thanks :)

  • OMG those are to girls!

    hahaha

  • how do you get that tool......"fill" thingy.....

  • Wow, was I living in the stone age! I had corel psp for a while and tried using a mouse + my friend's old wacom tablet with a bush tool. It was so frustrating, going back & forth with that and the eraser that I just have up and scanned original penned drawings. Thanks so much for uploading this! I have to get the full Adobe package for my illustration major next year at RISD and I was hoping I didn't have to go through the same thing again. How long did it take you to learn the program?

  • @RubiconXing Also, what's the difference btw. Illustrator and photoshop? Do people alternate btw. the two?

  • @RubiconXing the primary difference between illustrator and photoshop is pixels vs. vectors (though you do have the option to use vector masks and shape layers in photoshop) I alternate between the two because I can get smoother, more editable linework at smaller file sizes with illustrator, but way more blending effects and a more "painterly" experience in photoshop.

  • @RubiconXing It didn't take me long to learn, but it took me a while to get good - mainly because I wasn't applying myself consistently. Since you're doing it for design school, you'll probably find your skill improving in leaps and bounds in a short period of time. Learn the shortcuts to improve your work-flow, and practice on tutorials like the ones at psdtuts and photoshoplady :)

  • ok ty =)

now i am doing stuffs in ps cs3 =D i think its better but im kinda new working with it so. :P

  • do you work in manga or anime?

  • @ryofulance Nope, just for myself - I wish, though! I actually design and code websites for a living.

  • 2 chicks. HOT!!

  • @papeazy Thanks! I concur :)

  • I really like the drawing but it looks like the dude is a chick

  • @Selena01000 Thanks, she is a chick :)

  • draw 's not so good - the original one - but the tutorial 's good

    tks ^^,

btw can we mak other things with AIcs3? like......

i would like someon 2 ansr me, plzz....

  • @lisakair1 Thanks for the opinion - you can make whatever you want with AICS3, did you have something specific in mind?

  • @chrisknowsthis no problem its onl the truth

hum idk im trying 2 make some anime with it but i have 2 practice my painting lol XD

  • @lisakair1 Oh, well like I said, illustrator can do anything you want. I do all my scratch sketches in photoshop and don't put too much work into them if I'm going to be doing lines in illustrator - it cuts down on the time the whole piece takes.

  • nice.

    I like it

  • Very nice...but Paint Tool Sai will take you 30 minutes to do it.

  • @omaraty009 Thanks, I'm fine with illustrator, and it didn't take me very long at all.

  • Don't you find it annoying when the black fill hides your outline as you trace your way back to the original anchor point? I usually keep my fill off so I can see and move faster, and then after a couple of shapes I'll fill them to have a peek.

  • @prayforsurf I usually do too, but when I'm recording a video, it's hard for the audience to see what I'm drawing with the fill turned off, and it's slightly more efficient to just leave the fill on than to draw and fill every line for the benefit of the viewer.

  • Umm, hello, I saw this a couple times and I'm really in awe with it. Just one question, how do you upload it on to Photoshop but keeping the dark lines that you did in Illustrator. Cause when I upload a drawing on Photoshop it converts into pixels and I don't want that.

  • Instead of saving the file in Illustrator and opening it in photoshop, copy the lines over by hitting Cmd-A (Select > All) in illustrator to select all your paths, Cmd-C (Edit > Copy) to copy and then Cmd-V (Edit > Paste) in Photoshop to paste your paths. A box will pop up that asks if you want to paste as smart object, pixels, path, or shape layer. I like shape layer best. Path requires extra steps to fill or mask, smart object ties it to the original illustrator file & pixel rasterizes it.

  • Ooh! Thank you very much ^^

You're such a talented artist and I'm still such a newbie with photoshop and illustrator, mostly illustrator it's so complicated! @-@

  • That was very helpful! Thank you!

  • You're welcome!

  • omg ! Awesome!! But not quite like the tutorial i was hoping for :c

  • Haha, thanks...? ^_^

  • this tutorial is very ultra helpful

  • Thanks, I'm glad you found it useful ^_^

  • im new to illustrator and all its tools. iv started using the pen tool and its handles but it makes me really angry. i don't know if its because of the speed of the video but it looks like you don't even use the handles. (if so how do you get the curves you get)

  • They're definitely a little tough to get comfortable with. I'm using the handles, I'm just not editing them once the points are down. If you make a new point by clicking, and drag your mouse before you release, it pulls out the handle and makes the curve.

  • Thank you for this video! I love listening to you informative and friendly instructions.

Thank you so much for explaning the Bezure (sp?) curves this is the best explaination that has ever helped me understand what the important item is.

    Peace

  • You're very welcome! Thanks for the awesome comments. It's actually bézier curve I think, but who cares as long as you know what it is. My next video is going to focus specifically on using the pen tool, anchors and handles in Photoshop and Illustrator so you'll get even more info.

  • that was very well done and very helpful.

  • Thanks ^_^

  • would you recommend Bamboo for a person who never use a tablet? and what size is the one you are using?

  • Heck yeah! It's super intuitive and the buttons are awesome. I am using the small Bamboo Fun with an active area of 5.8" x 3.7"

  • nice in depth tutorial! Thanks for uploading it! : D

  • nice hey can any1 tell me how to get the brush to look smooth and not all pixilated like paint for windows?i seem to have this ongoing problem i have photoshop 7 elements so i dont know what im doing wrong help!

  • Hmmm...I've never used Photoshop Elements, but what brush size are you using, and what is your document size (width, height and resolution) make sure that you're actually using the brush tool (sometimes you get stuck on the pencil tool by default) make sure the size isn't set to 1 pixel, ummm...make sure you're not zoomed in more than 100%. That's all I can think of off the top of my head, I'll try to replicate the problem in photoshop.

  • hahaha yeah you're right a Bamboo tablet doesn't have the same sensitivity as an intuos and such. But you can't blame the poor thing is a stoneage tablet haha

  • I love my Bamboo! It works for what I need, but if people want more sensitivity, have spare cash and are getting their first tablet they should definitely grab an Intuos over the Bamboo. I'm not going to upgrade from a Bamboo to an Intuos just yet because I don't feel that the extra sensitivity and barrel tilt detection would make enough difference to chunk a perfectly good tablet (which I got for free!) to buy a new one. The Bamboo came out in Sept 2007, so it's hardly stoneage.

  • Also for anyone who was looking for a good program besides photoshop for colouring/lineart, Easy Paint Tool SAI is great! and it's only 50 bucks.

    Just google it.

  • You're totally right, thanks ^_^

  • this is realllllyy good

  • Thanks! :)

  • But I like your illustration anyway :-)

  • It could have been a nice tutorial, but is way too quick.I don't get any of it cause it's so damned speeded up.

  • Sorry, I know it's fast, I'm working on some slower vids right now to show the process a little more.

  • wow!wonderful! But how did you delete your original sketch layer at 4:07?

    Thanks sooo much!

  • Thanks! I kept the sketch and the linework on separate layers, and I just chunked the sketch layer by dragging and dropping it in the trash can on the layers palette.

  • thank I will try that. I am soooooooo impressed by how your pen tool can create flowing texture, I can't do that at all..lol

  • Wow this is inspiring, Great job!! :D

  • Thanks so much :)

  • I like it. But i dont have adobe photoshop, is there anyway i can improvise?

  • There aren't any comparable products that I know of for free. A lot of people use open canvas which only costs $80. A lot of people also snag a copy of photoshop through torrents or limewire so that you don't have to find an alternative ~_^

  • Thank you so much for this. I was using the basic lines for my drawings and they just never looked right/professional. I couldn't figure out what was wrong till I watched this. Showing how you simply used and shaped the filler area has helped me a lot.

Thanks for explaining your work too. It's a lot more helpful than just watching and listening to music.

  • I'm glad it could help - I get so frustrated when people don't explain what they're doing, especially when they're going super fast. I've found some good music through videos like that, but if I was looking for music, I'd just listen to Pandora ^_^

  • lol, yeah. I mentioned that cause there were some shortcuts you pointed out (along with the rest) that I wasn't aware of. Saved a lot of frustration. I even put what I learned to practice already yesterday. Improved my work by 50%. ^o^

  • wow that was so amazingX3 i like this:D how do you get this adobe? (lol its expensive right?)^^

  • Thanks! Adobe CS3 (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Acrobat, Dreamweaver, etc) is like $2000 and just Photoshop alone is a grand I believe - if you're a student, you can get it for cheaper.

If one was to download a filesharing program like saaaay Limewire or grab a torrent from thepiratebay, one could easily find a copy of CS3 for their operating system with a serial number handily provided. I'm not saying that's how I'd do it if I didn't have my copy, but it's an option for some *wink*

  • how did you do this line?

  • Thanks!
