Lexus is a car ..CPU box set for HIGH SPEED and LESS TORQUE than engines designed for TRUCKS (I'm sure about this points because I worked with Toyota and from Japan they sent Technician and show us how to set in CPU boxes (dealers ONLY) 22RE for Celica and also 22RE for truck and 4 runner. truck and 4 runner set high torque and Celica set high speed...very cool.
If my moms 4runner didnt have a quarter million miles, i would love to buy it and do that to it. The 3.4L v6 still runs like a top also. hands down our 4 runner has been the best vehicle my family has owned. (been through dozens of cars over the years) I've done routine tune-ups, a starter, and brake pads and shoes since we've owned it. all around just a great tough vehicle. Damn it i really want one for myself now.keep the vids coming.
I know, I mean there's just something special about that configuration, it's so manly and aggressive, nothing is as raw and muscular as a V8, although euro V8s do sound different to the American ones, I think the Ferrari and Audi V8s sound more exotic, but the American ones sound more meaty and muscular and intimidating.
That is by far my favorite 2nd generation 4Runner on the planet.
I have a '99 Limited running a 3" OME and 285-75's, but as you know- no real power to have fun in the deeper stuff. I plan on taking a page out of your book (with the V8) as soon I have the funds! Plus, I only have 100K on the ODO and I'm having a tough time convincing myself to chuck the V6 so soon.
Anyway, great video and super sweet rig! Seeing rigs such as yours' definitely gives someone the motivation to move into a V8!
@fred1671 "I only have 100K on the ODO and I'm having a tough time convincing myself to chuck the V6 so soon." The reality is you can't afford the conversion you lame fuck.
@MrMarcus51559 I originally had it up and running in about 6 weeks (only working on it on weekends, and cost about $6000. Was probably another $2k in the next few years to sort out other issues (cooling, clutch, a/c)
mad as 4runner man, how much effort did it take to switch it to a lexus v8? coz i got a 2.8 diesel 4runner and was thunking about doing summin like that.
Hey Faulkner Jr., you could write the sequel to "no country for old men" for Cormac McCarthy. Random, but that paragraph above reminded me of both their writing styles, and thats no insult.
what differences are there between the Lexus 4runner, adn the Toyota 4runner...it seems to be that yours is a V8 compared to my V6, but are there differences in the engine. Mine had valve problems, does yours?
No it's a Lexus v8 engine inside of a toyota 4runner. The engine is called a 1uzfe it's found in the lexus sc400. Lots of people swap those engines in 4runners. I have a 4runner myself and its never had a single problem and its 11 years old with over 150,000 miles on it.
nice, yeah ours was about the same but we had a Toyota V6 in ours. We sold it though cuz it wasnt a very good SUV, i loved it but it had a LOT of engine problems, adn after we sold it we found out the guy was offroading it pretty heavily and it exploded. lol.
That's weird. My 4runner is a 3.4L v6. Most reliable vehicle ive ever owned. Did you get your 4runner new or used? I dont go off roading though, I live in the city theres nowhere close to go off road. If I was gonna off road i'd build a ford bronco w/347 stroker.
Well it was a great truck, for a peice of crap, lol, It was really nice offroad, and great on the interior. But the thing is, the outsides got rusty from the damn salt they pour on the country roads in winter. Then we were always having gasket problems, or something like that, and getting engine recals. Hell we are still getting recals even though we sold it. Im still looking for a new one, but a 1995, rather than 1991. They say that '91 was just a bad engine year.
Ohh i see...I had an 88' now I have a 97' Ive got some rust on my rear bumper from the crappy winter weather and salt too. You should consider a 1uzfe v8 swap if you get a 95' 4runner. That engine is fairly inexpensive and theres supercharger kits for that engine as well.
yeah ill prolly look into that, i dont go offroad in trucks too much, i dont have a lot of $ for repairs. i use my ATV for heavy offroading and a truck to get me where im going, and go through some mud. ill prolly get a brushguard and winch, and maybe swap the engine like u said. Do u know if brushguards are worth the money? do they protect the truck a lot, or are they useless
I like the way they look on some trucks but for me theyd be useless the most amount of brush my 4runner see's is the bushes and shrubs in my yard next to my diveway. But i think they'd be useful offroad. I only use my 4runner in the snow, its too bad on gas to drive all year around.
huh, ours was pretty good on gas. but i suppose urs would suck more gas w/ a V8, i didnt think of that right away. yeah ours got like 20mpgs thats y i want another one. i like the way they look too. plus they protect ur lights
yeah, Broncos are good. i dont even wanna think about gas milage in those. I like 4Runners the best...unless i can find an old Toyota Pickup, they are the greatest.
Yea my dad had an old solid axle toyota truck, thing was nice, he should have kept it. A friend of mines off roads with a lifted bronco with a 347 stroker in it, gets about 4mpg no bullshit.
brush guards look bad-ass, add extra space for lighting, and help do justice to their name. but depending on the fastening points and typr of vehicle they can potentially cause serious damage in a true crash.
bristow2 specs are - 4" susp lift (cruiser coils in the rear, bj spacers and wound up torsion bars in the front. 2" bodylift, 4.0l Lexus V8 conversion, 15x10 Clasic IIs with 35x12.5 TrXus MTs, custom barwork by Custom 4x4 Fabrications. Google Twisty's Lexus V8 4Runner for info on forums etc.

That would also be a cool truck if it was a diesel.
It is pretty cool with that V8. V8's make a lot of power, and in my opinion are very cool in smaller cars and trucks.
Mad props brother.

well, I would blame the V8 4 that. Sadly thats what a V6 Ford Explorer gets normally i read. I like Explorers but ive heard they arent good off road.
