She was so perfect... even though she was really insecure about herself. But that insecurity definitely doesn't show up in this performance. Love you, girl.

Salut, vous aimez les sixties ? Ecoutez et podcatez mon émission "le super son des sixties" sur plum fm. Salut et faites gaffe au rock'n roll.
Two of the background singers are Madeline Bell ("I'm Gona MakeYou Love Me" and "Melting Pot") and Kiki Dee ("I've Got the Music in Me" and "Don't Go Breaking My Heart")
In the beginning , you can hear faintly that people are screaming, calling her on stage, however the audio is obviously not entirely the best quality in specifics. Hell, I wanted to see her in color performing. And of course later, you can see her in color as she progressed. Likewise, I would have been in the front row at that time, pitching roses at her. lol..She was breathtakingly beautiful all around her talents and persona. I never get tired of hearing her sing within these clips. Joy!.
@thepandatamer8 We were taught to sit and BEHAVE like ladies and gentlemen not animals like crowds do now! No wonder the world has gone down the toilet - no manners anymore.
@carlsperr Enthusiasm is not the same as acting like a bunch of animals. Seems you lack manners with the assumption that people now have no regard towards behaviour.
Also try telling that to a crowd around The Beatles.
In addition to the voice and stage presence, Dusty knew how to move in an age when few did. Looks like everyone is having a lot of fun here, and this is evidently transmitted to the concert audience. It was also felt at home - I remember well watching this on television - a memorable performance.
I loved you Dusty, from the first moment you appeared on TV :¬) I was supposed to be into progressive rock and all that, and I was, but you were, just, gorgeous! And what a voice!
yes...the Beatles though blazed the trail for other British singers to cross this pond and vice versa...can share their talent all over the world...here's to the Beatles
Dusty had a great voice. This and Son Of A Preacher Man are my favourites, and of course Island Of Dreams when she was in The Springfields. I love watching these old clips. I used to watch her show on the BBC many moons ago.
Nice to see Kiki Dee and Madeline Bell on backing vocals too.
If you notice, when Dusty first comes in, there is a drum kit with "__atles" clearly visible on the bass drum on the upper left. Were the Beatles on the same bill for this show? If so, what a great concert that must have been! Does anyone know where and when this performance was and who else appeared?
probably a NME (New Musical Express) yearly show featuring the top voted British talent, most likely 1964 or perhaps 1965. NME was the top music mag of the day in England. LOTS of clips on youtube featuring NME shows by the beatles, stones, hollies etc
Yes, but if you look at 0:05 between the guitar player and the amplifier, I think that's Ringo's drum kit. msongs posted that this was probably a NME concert, which is quite probable, but I heard Dusty say in an interview that they used to book "package" shows with a lot of really big names all on one bill. I suppose they couldn't afford to do that today... ahhh, the '60's!
good spot mycroftsbrother, that is indeed ringo`s kit.
these are the 1966 NME poll winners music awards, infamous amongst beatles fans for the fact this was the year that brian epstein didnt allow the beatles performance to be recorded (which was a pity because they sang classics like `nowhere man`, i feel fine` and `day tripper` on the show)
crazy to think that whilst dusty is singing in this clip the beatles were on the verge of giving up touring for ever.
Incredible! What wouldn't I give to have seen that show? Too bad I was born on the wrong side of "the pond." Some of those sixties British shows with all of the great bands must have been epic events. It's too bad that those days are now gone.
I have emailed a person who wanted to know when Dusty's Biopic would be portrayed in film. I read something was discussed or started to be in the works in 2005, do you have any knowledge when something will be made on her life? Cheers Pandy
Backup singers Madline (sp?) Bell, Lesley Duncan and Barbara Moore were Dusty's vocalists on her BBC shows as well in 66-67. Not sure if this is later than those or not, but a jazzy performance nonetheless.
Awesome for sure. Yes, those are the ones. I am learning of the names and faces along with all of Dusty's vocal/musical contributions and talents. I use to hear of her name and only knew a couple of her songs until recently and I am so amazed by her voice and the whole package. She was a trail blazer! Thanks for your reply. :-)
Not for me. Truth be told--and nothing against Katy's vocalizations--my interest isn't remotely sparked by the imitators when there's so much of the real talents to be discovered on YouTube.:)
If Dusty Springfield doesn't get a serious re-appreciation, then we Americans truly have forgotten what real musicianship is. More versatile than the Supremes, more original and enduring than the Beatles: that's Dusty, to me.

Both were Dusty's lovers at some point.
She was real bad when she & Madeleine split up.

@bootsamou I knew Kiki Dee was at some point, but I didn't know Madeleine Bell was one of Dusty's girlfriends, too.

Same here, pandy. YouTube had just a couple of Dusty songs posted (the ones all Americans know her by) up until a couple of months ago.
Then the flood burst.:-) I too am now in awe of Dusty Springfield--the world's greatest pop female vocalist ever. What a complete talent!

Is this because of Katy Setterfield winning the talent competition?
