Also, putting big bumpers is COMPLETELY missing the point. The source of the problem is that there is a compatibility issue between bumpers of SUVs and cars, not bumper size. Thing is, putting low bumpers on an SUV does not look good at all, and cars are more stylish and sportier with low bumpers (like the Mercedes C class here).

Yea... I really don't see a point in this test. Yes it happens everyday, but when was the last time you heard of a person say "I'm buying car X over car Y because the IIHS said car Y's bumper is better designed to save me money should I run into a bumper attached to a wall."

Crap test, if you hit another car at 5mph head on then its bumpers will absorb some of the damage, you are unlikely to hit an unmoveable object.

Even a hydrant or a pole will bend or break absorbing some of the energy.

You can't build bumpers that are so high like they want them,its just a stupid test.And where do you find such an adamant bumper who dont move, the car has to slip under it?When to cars crash at low speed normaly both bumpers are at the same level and both deform.

Some car manufacturers will never make or install "bumper bars" for the follwing reasons

1. it costs the greedy tycoons more to install them on every mass produced car.

2. the greedy tycoons will want you to take your car back to them to repair it! more damage made means MORE MONEY SPENT!

So the whole outcome is, car manufacturers are gaining more points against the consumers by not installing them at all

I designed and installed my own damn bumper push bars for about 30 bucks. Anybody who can't do what I did for themselves.....well, natural selection. I get to live and they get to die. Simple as that. Identify the problems and fix them, otherwise, you are a helpless whimpering coward. I hate cowards. what does that infiniti not have a rear bumper or what?? shit. i was hit from the back in my 93 integra by a newer ford focus, i was slowing down to change lanes, i was going about 15mph and she was going upwards of 30 when she hit me, and there was almot no damage to either car other than a few scratches to the bumper covers and my foam absorber was squished up prety good.

Yea I got a kick out of the 3mph signs too, the funny part is it probably wasn't meant to be a joke.

They come to those costs by going to the dealer and assessing the cost to fully restore the car. Mounts may be broken or bent, headlamps, radiators, body work, bumper fasteners might be broken requiring whole replacement, etc..
