Oh man I remember this... The music was epic and back in the early 90s this was soooo good. Wiling away Sunday evenings playing PC, watching Bubblegum Crisis on VHS and enjoying the last bit of freedom before school on monday.
You sir have been taking CoD VERY seriously. Go build a time machine, two go to a decent game store in the 90s were you can find tons of the most graceful classic games of the time. BEFORE the age of the x-box 360, Kinects, and Wii.
@KingCommando32 Hey that was also the time of the SNES, Genesis, Saturn, PS1, N64, 3DO, GB, Game Gear, Neo Geo, awesome arcade games, etc? ;) You gotta realize that horrible games are present at every point in history. Nothing much different than today. Experimentation that makes you vomit, like Kinect, matches up with say "VR" and FMV trash.
I have an N64 as well. I have at least Rouge Squadron, B-K and B-T, StarFox64, and South Park video game. I used to have a WWE game and Super Mario Kart 64. BEST games EVER. I wish I had more.
I had this game when it came out and it was the most frustrating thing to "try" to play. Not only was the framerate terrible, but I could never seem to get my mouse sensitivity up to something that allowed me to turn around in less than 30 seconds. Terrible game.
Music and level design are quite good (much better then many of the more recent games I've seen), but do you actually get to fight real Terminators later on in the game?
Naturally, this resembles Wolfenstein by quite much (as most FPS back in the day), but it does seem to have its own edge
@Kewryn yes, there were Terminators in the latter levels. The game was released a few months before Doom and was quite impressive at the time. Music was even better on the Gravis Ultrasound card.
@Dragonfury3000 I wouldn't call it complex as it is just a maze with pickups and baddies. Terminator PacMan. :) But yeah the music adds lots of atmosphere.
Heh that Fallout 3 is a good game is a questionable topic at best :P (this comes from a die hard Fallout 1 and 2 fan. And no, I am not criticizing it for being First Person)
And yeah, I think it would be more interesting of trying to make a more interactive and free roaming Terminator future war world instead.
So in general, what is your opinion of them in the order they have been released?
I have only played The Terminator Genesis and Sega CD, Terminator 2 SNES (damn that was bad), Terminator: Dawn of Fate PS2, Terminator 3: The Redemption PS2, and Terminator 2 The Arcade Game.
Have you also played the mobile games? The ones released for telephones and Iphone?
Gameloft's Terminator Salvation reminded me of Resistance: Retribution on the PSP.
@TheDutchGhost Of all of the Terminator games I've played, Future Shock and Skynet are definitely the best. They are not unlike today's STALKER games with their atmosphere, exploration and shooter gameplay. I haven't played the phone games or any on the newer handhelds. Did have T2 Arcade for Gameboy tho :) T2 The Arcade game is a classic (get MAME and play the real thing).
everyone saying that its a wolfenstein3D\DOOM clone is half right... DOOM was way better layed out than this game and had strafe... this is more Wolf3D clone than anything
Come on,the original The Terminator DOS game in 1991 was fully 3D,had vehicles,a HUGE open world set in LA,(There's a large lake,a stadium,a military base, and even a cemetery!),being able to fight the cops, going into stores and either buying or stealing stuff, the latter prompting a swarm of cops, being able to order Sarah Connor around and have her carry stuff if you play as Reese, all before Wolfenstein 3D AND Grand Theft Auto!
How come Betheseda made Terminator Wolf 3D/DOOM clones afterward?
Good lord it has been YEARS since I have seen this. I remember back when I was 5 and 6 playing this game. I still remember where to find the UZI in the 2cd level, and I remember facing the terminators - 4 shells with the shotty - 3rd shot blows off their skin and 4th takes em down for good. Damn I really miss my childhood when I played the shit out of this. Never beat the game though. I miss playing this so much...
Good lord, I remember when bethesda only made really forward thinking terminator games that crashed like gary busey in a maserati and required hardware specs far beyond anything else on the market...
It's kind of amazing how all this stuff led up to fallout. Remember those impossible to run x-engine games? woot!
Too bad, Rampage would actually be cooler if it worked on a tweaked Ultima Underworld engine [the first 3d environment game]. Alas, it was just another ride back then for those, who couldn't run Doom, and also an outdated one.
those graphics back in the day were badass i miss old games :[ now they only concentrate on how amazing they can make the graphics look mostly :/ its sad really
Beautiful soundtrack, atmosphere. Wow I'm missing out on all these game consoles. As far back as I can go is SNES which really is shitty I'm so tired of the same crap ;\
Actually the SNES version of DOOM was quite good featuring all 3 episodes, Bosses & weapons of the original. Where as the Atari Jaguar version was quite lacking in that respect and the 3DO version had horrible frame rate and only playable if you reduced the screen to the size of a stamp.
Heh well you might want to revisit that "quite good" SNES port cuz it's rather choppy and ugly....
The only good version of plain 'ol Doom is on PC. However, Doom64 on N64 is rather unique so I think I'll call it the best console variant. You can play that on PC now, called "Doom64 Absolution".
Yup, the game's levels make very little sense and are basically just big pacman puzzles. The game's a missed opportunity made by clueless level designers. Unless their plan was to make an enormously frustrating nightmarish pacman-wannabe experience beyond what Wolf3D even was. Yikes.
yeah, the maps are no help because they are as confusing as the level design. every time i play doom i get a headache trying to remember where to go and what to do.
All the old school DOS FPS games featured non linear gamelay and actually required that you explored the levels to find your way through, rather than the boring & short linear modern FPS that guide you from point A to B and tend to be completed in less than 8 hours.
Well I don't consider ultra-huge key hunts in levels with senseless, nearly random layouts and AI that just goes in a bee line at you as superior to some of today's story oriented, more thought-out games. They're shorter because it takes many times more man-hours to put them together.
Besides, this Terminator game isn't superior to anything. :)
Modern FPS could be story oriented and non-linear, if the developers actually put more effort in the level design and were not rushed for release. Most are aimed primarily for shooter freaks.
Not all old-school FPS are considered "Key Hunts" by the way.
Here are some excellent old-school FPS with immense non linear level design, exploration, awesome gameplay and excellent story oriented plots. Aliens Vs Predator II (PC) Alien Breed 3D I (AMIGA) Dark Forces Starwars (PC) Descent (PC) Doom 3 (PC) Duke Nukem 3D (PC) Half Life 2 (PC) Heretic (PC) Hexen (PC) Hexen - Death Kings of The Dark Citadel (PC) Hexen II (PC) Hexen II - Portal of Praevus (PC) Unreal (PC)
I didn't say that they are all the same. You replied to my Terminator video and sounded like you were saying it's some sort of landmark shooter game lol. There are lots of very innovative shooters. It's all subjective too. Rampage sucks because the gameplay is terrible in many respects, not simply because it's a keyhunt. Other Favs: Jedi Knight 1/2 System Shock 1/2 Cybermage Dark Messiah Far Cry & Crysis (open world) Elder Scrolls series (are first person) Fallout 3 Penumbra Black Plague
Wow, WTCTribute is right. Our technolegy has changed so much. Back then bathrooms were devoid of any objects, only textures on the wall to represent objects. And now today we got great graphics and real-time portal technolegy..
My God we've came so far since the 90's. You know, at the rate of tech advances these days, it won't be too long before a program like Skynet really does come along.
Brings back memories, I remember many years ago getting a 5-6 floppy disk version and trying to play it on my parents tandy computer, I didn't get very far due to it's choppyness. Now I'll have to find a cd of this and give dosbox a spin! ;)
I don't know, but it looks like a game boy advance game to me. I think it makes sense - game boy advance quality 3d graphics were possible on the pc in early '93
Lots of games back then looked like this. They cloned Wolf3D, primarily. Some extras here and there. Some companies did license the Wolf3D engine, but many were also original engines.
Heh heh. Guys, trust me, this game is not that great. It's just one of the bad Wolf3D clones that were around in those days. Granted, it has a few extra gameplay elements, but it's mainly a mega-huge keyhunt in a gigantic maze filled with incredibly stupid enemies.
Not really. I bought it back in '93-94 when it was fresh and new. I remember being disgusted at how slowly it ran on my DX2/50 MHz compared to Doom, especially because Doom was technologically superior in every way yet ran much better! Nevermind the difference in fun factor... this game was not really fun at all. It was interesting to me because it was a Terminator game and clearly was intended (failed) to seem realistic in its look and world.
I only played this game once - kept giving me headaches. Gameplay was repetitious all throughout - you just look for keys to move one and shoot everything in site. you were almost forced to visit every room on the level for some reason. I had to finish it because I bought the game (big mistake). But I admit that I thought the Colt Commando carbine was cool during that time.
I played this game when i was a kid back in 1993 and it was my favorite. far better than wolf 3d. Gameplay was slow on a 386 with all graphics on but it was worth it. the music was realistic and added to the excitement and the graphics and real world environment was by far the best i had seen at that time.
I have beaten this game before what I recommend you doing is go back forth between the levels because then the powerups like health/ammo/armor would regenerate. Also, I take my time because most of the levels have v-tec parts but if I'd becareful because in levels 8,13,14,15 the neuroscan detects only one v-tec but in actuality there are two parts in those levels if you don't get all those parts then prepare to fight the meta-node with only a grenade launcher.
swaaye, do you have more cool videos from this game? I'd love to see you play through the whole game so I can finally see what this game is all about :-)

No, DOS, like the title states. It was the disk operating system we used before they dropped disk from the term.

It's supposed to be a arboretum, I think. Very ugly though, yes.

I had to edit the "term.bat" file. In there I have "@RAMPAGE -Ssbpdig.adv -Mgenmidi.adv -IOS220 -IRQS7 -DMAS1" .

swaaye, do you have more cool videos from this game? I'd love to see you play through the whole game so I can finally see what this game is all about :-)

I made a few more of floors 8,9. The game is very long and rather tedious so I think I'm done with it. :)
