My friend has gone crazy over K/D in Battlefield 3 and got some friends of his stuck on the idea too. I'd try to explain that none gives a fuck about your K/D, but I know he'd get all mad and tell me he just plays the way he wants. He still manages to get an objective or two, but that's usually because it keeps the enemy away from his "spot" usually on a roof. He's boosted to a high rank and has friends keep the other team from getting vehicles. Wut I do without making him angry?

It looks like those snipers are actually trying to avoid helping.. If there's a plant like that, and 3 snipers on the hill, I don't see how they would let anyone defuse. snipers get a bad rap but they are clutch when it comes to watching an armed objective.
One thing I noticed about this game is that whenever I have a better KD, 2 or more, I have a very low score. Yet when I have a relatively bad KD, 1 or below and have been helping the team and getting objectives, my score is so much higher. So even if you are out to just get the most points, you better PTFO.
I've been hanging the PTFO tag on my profile name ever since this video and telling players to get their asses into gear and give me a game. Hell, I've even managed to get the Recon class to occasionally work for Rush by covering my teammates, but that takes a lot of effort and doesn't always work.

like if I was a rushing recon, before I would die or suicide, I would do as much as I can whether it be throw as many motion sensors as possible or blow up as many buildings with C4 before I die

Yeah, ok. might've been a different situation. And in your case it more sounds like the problem he is talkin' bout in the video. And that is something where he is totally talking out of my heart (if can say it this way in english, idk). I always have to face things like that in cod:bo. I try to get headquarters and people are standing in the back shooting the other teams players. and then start laughing at my K/D which totally pisses me off!
i dont like the idea of (your whole team needs to PTFO or you lose), yes it was fine in the alpha were it dosent have the twelve year old's who only care about there K/D, but when the actual full game comes out there are going to be about 45-60% of the players will be annoying 12 year old's which wont PTFO and you'll lose, so just take away K/D and there wont be that problem
I must admit, I like sniping but I try be an aggressive sniper. One game it was rush first base isla innocentes and most of my team was pushing up towards the objective. I then had the thought of picking off people who could be a danger, engineers, people on mounted guns, people going for defuse so on. The team won and I want people to know sniping can do a lot for your team just don't get to campy and remember as a recon you are the best at sneaking in and arming.

Good commentary. I often get discouraged about getting more deaths than kills in a round, but I spend a lot of time running the medic kit-dropping health packs, reviving, and trying to take objectives. Thanks for the confidence boost! :)
I think its alright to get mad if your killing everyone around the obj and nobody is arming. Im pretty sure thats wht the sniper kit is for and its in the game to be used.
I usually get a good K/D but I still go for the objectives. I actually arm the objectives in Rush but in the process I rack up alot of kills because I have to clear the area and guard the M-COM. The problem is that no one ever supports me and I'm not a one man army so it's impossible to even get to the objectives. The enemy only has to worry about me while the rest of my team snipes. I hope BF3 will take away points for not capturing objectives especially when a player is sniping.
It seems that now many people "convert" from CoD. And the sober reality of Battlefield - get the objective done -, which is why I play and like, might not be that attractive for them.
This vid, or some type of same monologue should be present in Battlefield tutorial. (But I suppose the campaign can set you in proper mood, as far as trailers suggest.)

My K/D is around 1.08, not very good but it's because a lot of times I just screw around. But even when I play seriously I'm reviving, repairing, resupplying, and SPOTTING than I am killing. Sorry all of you with 12x scoped M95 you generally don't do shit for your team
and so the recon cant just spawn camp and sniper away from their team just for kd. they have to move and be better about team work. The things they said were going to be done with recon will make it so they probably will end up having to go for objectives. not because the game requires them to, but how the class will be modified for usage. they will end up going for objectives because of certain new things

Colin, that's an interesting point about the stats comparisons, because I haven't heard one word about stats over BF3 or any Battlefield games for that matter. I just don't think this community is concerned with it. Anyways, don't you just love the rank up sound in BF3? Sounds so cool, and they lowered the exp needed so it's more like COD not BC2!
you know when i play as a medic or player in general and i revive someone just as an enemy starts shooting at us, i will do the right thing and stand in front of my teamate and take the shots for him even if it means losing a life because i dont care and i feel i should after reviving him into a gunfight. That is just how i play.
I played as a medic once and got tons and TONS of points by healing, reviving and in the middle of that spraying my LMG... Probably one of the most epic experiences I have EVER had :D

I'm the guy that constantly runs for the objective, defend, then move on. I can get a decent k/d but that really doesn't matter to me at least in this game.
I think the community really needs to label people who don't ptfo as the complete pussies that they are. If nobody was impressed by their bs, they might just leave and go to certain more accessible franchises (the irony being they wouldn't get as good a kdr there as well unless they joined ctf and camped).
i'm horrible at taking objectives, but am good at getting kills so I rush with the guys who arm objectives and try to cover them so they dont just waste tickets by blindly running into the other team
@SukhliciouSx None taken. Your're right, in TDM you do need K/D. Conquest you do need K/D, Kinda. But if you run in to a team that is well organized and going after the objective they will whip the floor against any team that is only thinking about K/D. Out of all the game types rush is the one that needs it the least. I figure take K/D out of rush and keep it in TDM and conquest in hopes to promote playing the objective.
Dice should remove any K/D comparisons in all statistics and do something like a points/death or points per kill ratio. A sniper in BC2 gets usually less than 100 points per kill while medics can have more then 300 per kill.
And suppressive fire will take care of the snipers in BF3.
I play games for entertainment, so I don't really care If people want kills, If I loose or win, or if I feel like playing the objective or just killing from afar for the whole match. Video games are made to entertain, don't take that away from us.
my story - bush wookie 4 until rank 4 to 5 then became agressive sniper takin out tanks via c4 and quikly scopin then saw you and became all around class user 2 take objectives i started 2 become a good objective player
@aznredragon629 They could do what Bungie with Halo, using the proximity voice, but with allies. To keep it balanced they could make it so both teams can hear it, have a button to switch between team and squad. Just a thought. :)
In BC2 i try my best to ptfo, but i'm always conscience of my k/d partly its a gauge of how useful i'm being. In rush especially, am i holding my own or am i part of the reason we might lose from bleeding too many tickets from poor play. I don't hang back as i'm rubbish at bolt action rifles and opt to be an assault wookie. To encourage objective play, just scrap K/D stats.
I'm going to admit that I was a Bush Wookie for the first 7 ranks then started to arm the objectives. Before then I lost every game, but now I am a team player, now I'm starting to win most of my games. I play for the win. Thank you DCRU and NGT to start promoting PTFO to get people like me (not any more) to do that. PTFO people, don't make the mistake I made.

They should make arming an objective a ton of points, as well as revives and aiding your team, whereas kills should give you less points. That way you actually level up quicker by playing the objective to inspire objective-based playing
I would definitely enjoy this game more if people were playing for the objective instead of KD. Recons are so incredibly useful WHEN YOU SPOT AND USE MOTION SENSORS! Sniping/killing really doesn't do that much. Also, smoke grenades are WAY undervalued in BC2, probably because you don't get any points for it, hope they change that in BF3. So far though, it looks as if BF3 will go towards KD and away from objective gameplay: spotting and objectives are less points in BF3, but kills more. DICE FIX!
so the only big class changes are that there is no medic? Medic is replaced by the support class, while the reviving and healing aspects are given to the assault class?
I have a positive K/D only playing the objective. Not bragging just saying that if you need to play like a bitch to get a precious positive K/D yer doin it wrong PTFO!!!! even someone with a negative K/D of over 9000 can play the objective like a boss.
It also kinda pisses me off how it's sooo much faster to arm then to disarm, it should be equal because off the idiots that run in kamikaze plant while their team is just 'tubing or mortaring the place. It's just something I noticed after playing the game since launch
battlefield isn't really about kd. Sure having a higher kd means you'll probably win more due to the fact that your able to take down the enemy and help arm the objective. But to focus on strictly making kills isn't going to cut it in battlefield and certainly not in an objective based game. even in call of duty in an objective based game your not always certain to win if you just go for kills. A strong player i believe is someone who can make kills and take the objective thru some good teamwork
@LifeOfASmiley what I mean is I'd rather not use 12-15 rounds from my mag (all hitmarkers). I'd like the 1 or 2 bursts to kill a person 3-6 bullets. Also in real life, those sniper rounds are going to take you out, you just have to play smart to take them out.
@LevitatingDuck The thing is though, it isn't real life. You can say that realism is what everyone want, but when you REALLY think about it, it isn't. In real life, most of the time soldiers aren't even fighting, they're doing errands or training or just sitting in the barracks. In real life, you don't poke your head out and kill the guy shooting at you when you're being fired upon. In HC, it's SO EASY to camp. There isn't a death cam and you die so quickly that you can't fight back.

I'm usually the guy on my team that goes for the objective no matter what and I don't give a shit about my k/d, however I've noticed that if you actually go for the objective, you will usually get a good k/d. So PTFO!

I mean some people can snipe while playing objective. I went 30-8, 4200 points, killed atleast 5 people who were defusing the charge, and we only made it halfway through the map (cause the zzirgrizzes). And assaults didn't give me ammo packs so I had to kill myself 3 times :/

Good commentary. I often get discouraged about getting more deaths than kills in a round, but I spend a lot of time running the medic kit-dropping health packs, reviving, and trying to take objectives. Thanks for the confidence boost! :)

I think its alright to get mad if your killing everyone around the obj and nobody is arming. Im pretty sure thats wht the sniper kit is for and its in the game to be used.

I usually get a good K/D but I still go for the objectives. I actually arm the objectives in Rush but in the process I rack up alot of kills because I have to clear the area and guard the M-COM. The problem is that no one ever supports me and I'm not a one man army so it's impossible to even get to the objectives. The enemy only has to worry about me while the rest of my team snipes. I hope BF3 will take away points for not capturing objectives especially when a player is sniping.

It seems that now many people "convert" from CoD. And the sober reality of Battlefield - get the objective done -, which is why I play and like, might not be that attractive for them.
This vid, or some type of same monologue should be present in Battlefield tutorial. (But I suppose the campaign can set you in proper mood, as far as trailers suggest.)

My K/D is around 1.08, not very good but it's because a lot of times I just screw around. But even when I play seriously I'm reviving, repairing, resupplying, and SPOTTING than I am killing. Sorry all of you with 12x scoped M95 you generally don't do shit for your team

and so the recon cant just spawn camp and sniper away from their team just for kd. they have to move and be better about team work. The things they said were going to be done with recon will make it so they probably will end up having to go for objectives. not because the game requires them to, but how the class will be modified for usage. they will end up going for objectives because of certain new things

Colin, that's an interesting point about the stats comparisons, because I haven't heard one word about stats over BF3 or any Battlefield games for that matter. I just don't think this community is concerned with it. Anyways, don't you just love the rank up sound in BF3? Sounds so cool, and they lowered the exp needed so it's more like COD not BC2!

you know when i play as a medic or player in general and i revive someone just as an enemy starts shooting at us, i will do the right thing and stand in front of my teamate and take the shots for him even if it means losing a life because i dont care and i feel i should after reviving him into a gunfight. That is just how i play.

I think the community really needs to label people who don't ptfo as the complete pussies that they are. If nobody was impressed by their bs, they might just leave and go to certain more accessible franchises (the irony being they wouldn't get as good a kdr there as well unless they joined ctf and camped).

@SukhliciouSx None taken. Your're right, in TDM you do need K/D. Conquest you do need K/D, Kinda. But if you run in to a team that is well organized and going after the objective they will whip the floor against any team that is only thinking about K/D. Out of all the game types rush is the one that needs it the least. I figure take K/D out of rush and keep it in TDM and conquest in hopes to promote playing the objective.

Dice should remove any K/D comparisons in all statistics and do something like a points/death or points per kill ratio. A sniper in BC2 gets usually less than 100 points per kill while medics can have more then 300 per kill.
And suppressive fire will take care of the snipers in BF3.

@aznredragon629 They could do what Bungie with Halo, using the proximity voice, but with allies. To keep it balanced they could make it so both teams can hear it, have a button to switch between team and squad. Just a thought. :)

In BC2 i try my best to ptfo, but i'm always conscience of my k/d partly its a gauge of how useful i'm being. In rush especially, am i holding my own or am i part of the reason we might lose from bleeding too many tickets from poor play. I don't hang back as i'm rubbish at bolt action rifles and opt to be an assault wookie. To encourage objective play, just scrap K/D stats.

I'm going to admit that I was a Bush Wookie for the first 7 ranks then started to arm the objectives. Before then I lost every game, but now I am a team player, now I'm starting to win most of my games. I play for the win. Thank you DCRU and NGT to start promoting PTFO to get people like me (not any more) to do that. PTFO people, don't make the mistake I made.

They should make arming an objective a ton of points, as well as revives and aiding your team, whereas kills should give you less points. That way you actually level up quicker by playing the objective to inspire objective-based playing

I would definitely enjoy this game more if people were playing for the objective instead of KD. Recons are so incredibly useful WHEN YOU SPOT AND USE MOTION SENSORS! Sniping/killing really doesn't do that much. Also, smoke grenades are WAY undervalued in BC2, probably because you don't get any points for it, hope they change that in BF3. So far though, it looks as if BF3 will go towards KD and away from objective gameplay: spotting and objectives are less points in BF3, but kills more. DICE FIX!

battlefield isn't really about kd. Sure having a higher kd means you'll probably win more due to the fact that your able to take down the enemy and help arm the objective. But to focus on strictly making kills isn't going to cut it in battlefield and certainly not in an objective based game. even in call of duty in an objective based game your not always certain to win if you just go for kills. A strong player i believe is someone who can make kills and take the objective thru some good teamwork

@LifeOfASmiley what I mean is I'd rather not use 12-15 rounds from my mag (all hitmarkers). I'd like the 1 or 2 bursts to kill a person 3-6 bullets. Also in real life, those sniper rounds are going to take you out, you just have to play smart to take them out.

@LevitatingDuck The thing is though, it isn't real life. You can say that realism is what everyone want, but when you REALLY think about it, it isn't. In real life, most of the time soldiers aren't even fighting, they're doing errands or training or just sitting in the barracks. In real life, you don't poke your head out and kill the guy shooting at you when you're being fired upon. In HC, it's SO EASY to camp. There isn't a death cam and you die so quickly that you can't fight back.

I'm usually the guy on my team that goes for the objective no matter what and I don't give a shit about my k/d, however I've noticed that if you actually go for the objective, you will usually get a good k/d. So PTFO!

I mean some people can snipe while playing objective. I went 30-8, 4200 points, killed atleast 5 people who were defusing the charge, and we only made it halfway through the map (cause the zzirgrizzes). And assaults didn't give me ammo packs so I had to kill myself 3 times :/

Can everyone get on DICE forums and DEMAND!!! That we can get have the ability to get all of our friends in a game. I'm tired of not being able to play with more than just 3 guys, I'm in a clan with a bunch of active members, can we get a party lobby with options for 3 squads and assign members to squads AND have the ability to talk with each squad and lone blue wolfs PLEASE!!! Have the chat function with squad channels so communication can be throughout the whole team and not just for a squad!
