Splendid and gorgeous voice here, though still throaty singing. Poor Carreras was bled out in a decade by conductors like Karajan who forced him to sing heavy roles with an unpolished technique, all just to make a quick buck. Pity.
I agree, coughing at any concert is unacceptable, you can stifle it if you really do have a cough. It's really good to get that of my chest if you'll excuse the pun!! He sings this wonderfully,Bergonzi in his prime is also superb.
what a terrific performance! This definitely tops the other version of this from 1985! Carreras was absolutely fantastic in the 1970's! In fact, this sounds similar to the one from 1976 from Italy that he did on legatto classics!
Magnificent !!!!

all I can say is if he had sung like this at the 3 Tenors Concerts....he would have thrilled the audiences even more!

I know. No one had or has that timbre. I gave up looking.

He has such a unique and rare sound - a beautiful lyric voice with that delicious dark color, so very unusual and precious.
Not to mention his elegant and ardent style! He's one of a kind indeed!

Always loved Jose in lighter Verdi operas. His Quando le Sere al Placido is always very moving.
