  • incredible songwriting

  • great performance!

robert looks very different. in a good way

  • Strange how if this song came out today it would be considered Indie or part of the Post-Punk Revival.

  • @Reptilectricful

I guess because it WAS indie and post-punk!!

  • Am having a goth themed Halloween party am going to dress up as Robert or Siouxie and play no music but the Cure.

  • I'd wager the reason he was skinny back then was a combination of being young and on drugs.I could really care less what he looks like as long as he lives to a ripe old age.he's cute but has very sharp features that have morffed as he's aged so becoming that skinny again would look odd.I don't think he's ever really been comfortable with his looks so that and his age could be reasons why he just doesn't care.he does need to take care of his health though.because i said=)

  • @amers83

Poor dear old Robert, kind of needs to lose weight, makeup like that just doesn't suit a portly 50 year old. he's been through the mill, that one, but he still does absolutely corking songs. YAY ROB!

  • @lucypuddlejumper that's personally up to him.it's really his business not anyone elses.he's a musician in his mid 50's not a movie star=)health is important though.he's got fans who could care less about his looks.like me.it is what it is.

  • superb video quality.

  • Robert smith looks much better as a kid

  • epic!

  • just amaizing... they are diferent

  • The sound of my late teen years. Bleak and beautiful

  • This is late '80. Month later when Hartley left.

  • 1979 december 16 Theatre de l'empire. Last word

  • : ) 2 good

  • Aww robert smith looking soooo young with short hair

  • @ingridwharton and not fat

  • ah there's matthieu. i stand corrected then.

  • this isn't 79. simon instead of michael and no matthieu, so this must be 81 or even 82.

  • '79 my arse.

  • @Spankabuttux umm yes this was 1979.

  • Van a toda pastilla, no esperan a nadie :-D

  • too fast

  • my ex wife sent me a tape with this song on it, I walked through the bush of africa with my super badass WP walkman listening to this song and many others from the time period of alternative music great post! ta bueno

  • Superb! How young!!

  • Robert siempre sexy y talentoso!

  • GORGEOUS ROBERT <3

  • Pure the Cure(:..........Lol on drums(:come on Rob!we want him back

  • I like most of the cure output, but this is my favorite cure, when the still retained much of their punk oomph

  • This is the first time I see Robert without a makeup. Makeup or no makeup, what a beautiful creature this man is.

  • dam i love this vid,,r.smith is incredible in every way

  • excelente

  • Always have to have an uneducated idiot to leave your negative opinion!

  • totally freakin awesome - like how they don't show Simon during the bass solo lol

  • I prefer the fast version myself. I found one bootleg that has them performing at this tempo, "10:15 on a Saturday Night, 10 Years ago, it was just right". Also, the quality is surprisingly good for a bootleg. Does anyone know of another?

  • i like the fast version

  • The cure al principio eran geniales.

  • Me gusta.

  • prefer the slower version, but this is fun

  • Popatrzcie na twarz Robert Smith. Widzicie geniusza? Juz wtedy BYL!. Do dzisiaj Go slucham i Podziwiam! The Cure i Robert Smith. GENIUS

  • no mames ! que rolota ! que recuerdos

  • rock and roll at its finest!

  • It is interesting here how the bass plays the guitar solo section.

  • Best song ever with the Cure! naaa Killing an Arab is coolio too!

  • Best verison, best line-up.

    Nice pants,

  • @TheNiteNite I have a pair pants like that they are Volleyball warm ups , but everyone see them are like "Dude kool pants" IDK ?! O_O

  • Hehehe, I can't believe how young there were there.

  • this is one of my favorite songs by The Cure.

i'm 21 and i don't care of other crap songs going around.

  • so alt wie ich

  • robert was a freak of teisco guitars

  • I love this version

  • Amazing quality!

  • LIVE THE KID ALONE:)))))))))

  • Rape me sounds like 3 imaginary boys!, and About a Girl sounds like M, so there most be some cure influences in nirvana, anyone else think the same?...

  • @figurehead89 whoa you are so right

  • @figurehead89 I also hear The Cure influences in some of Nirvana's songs. Check out NIrvana's Endless Nameless. it sounds similar to The Cure's Splintered in Her Head

  • @joedec you're so right!. it sounds very similar, especially the bass line!, try this, listen both songs at the same time, and you will notice that both songs fit very well together, sometimes it´s just noise, but overall they complement each other...

  • I do believe that those 3 tracks played live at the Theatre de l'Empire in Paris and then broadcast on French TV were the band's first ever TV appearance. The show was called "Chorus" and was hosted by a young Antoine de Caunes. I think their first British TV appearance was on Top of the Pops miming "A forest" in April 1980.

  • Not the best version wit this skippy and fast tempo!!!

  • KE KAÑA LOS CURE,MUY BUENOS

  • A little quick in tempo to my ear (?). Great track from a great band.

  • waiting for tomorrow, never comes.

  • q buen tema! puro cure!

  • Hey guys, you can find the LYRICS @ EasyLyrics . org/?artist=Cure%2C+The&title=Three+Imaginary+Boys

The man who sold the world......

  • Cure at its best

  • Ti le re Mitso? Death to false metal

  • musicaly this i could say is everything to me

    but most of all... feeling............

  • From the Cure's greatest album...nothing they did after this ( maybe 17 seconds) came close

  • I love that you can just see M. Hartley sitting to the side, behind his keyboard, flipping through a magazine or newspaper, with nothing to do.

  • @kmfdm10392 its definitively price-less

  • I loove this version of this song. I wish they would have used this tempo on the album version. This song played like this is my favorite Cure Song period

  • Robert so perfect vocal. song oh yeah

  • Simon rocks!

Even Lol looks so cool here!

    Ouh & what about Robert?

    Well Bob is The Bob

    ;)

  • I love this song.

On three imaginary boys is this song very slow, I like this faster song.

  • awesome!!! simply the best! I love these boys!

  • After all these years, it still makes me nearly cry

  • @3927Peter have you ever read the book by the same name. full of great stories of the band

  • Pretty amazing quality. Thanks so much for uploading!

  • If John Fogerty was near gay and dug Poe he would have made this years earlier.

    Just pointing out the obvious...

    :)

  • It's a beautifull and grunge version!!

    Thanks,

  • different from the original album version but nice

  • I love the pink pants.

  • one of the greatest songs of the cure...

    best song perforance ever... :)

  • This is sweet. They were a fantastic trio. Tis a shame Lawrence isint involved with the band anymore. When those 3 were together they were fantastic. Especially on "Pornography"

  • Yeah epic song, but faster than ususal. First band i really got into, dark but awesome.

  • Gotta disagree, I think its far too fast imho

  • best performance of Three Imginary Boys better than any following performance or the album version as they play it faster and it really flows. The album version is so halting.

    still a good song!

  • I completely agree. The tempo is just perfect, and helps the feeling of nervy unease I think the song the song has. Particularly for the last verse.

  • fantastic video

  • haaaaaa le look de ouf xD

  • Mr Tolhurst i a great drumm player, I wish that he would like to play in my band

  • i like Robert Smith pink pants.... :D

  • I LLLLLOOOOOVEEEEE THIS!!!!!!!!!!

  • I love the drummer at 1:33 he's like where was I? then at 1:36 he was like oh yeah!...Anyways anywhere I can download this?

Salu2.

  • @rockdelsur Check out "eighties" by Killing Joke if you think that Nirvana were like UK punk

  • @rockdelsur Or even Life Goes On by the Damned

  • nice to hear early Cure. Thanks for posting.

  • A great performance, Smith always amaziing on guitar

  • Gaaaahhh... Robert and Simon sooooo gooooood loooking! Haha and that was a sorta cool version!

  • Tolhurst might be better than Cooper. LOL.

  • ah yes, the great Tochurst

  • "lol" Tochurst, would I say !

  • Nver heard this faster early version - great!

  • LOL : Tochurst instead of Tolhurst

  • I saw it too andwanted to say it also but you were faster.:P

  • does anybody know the name of lol's drumkit ? i love it's sound!

  • wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Wow, the Cure have really changed. I personally don't really like this fast version, it doesn't do the song justice. It seems too rushed.

Robert Smith looked very different then. Not only the short hair and the lack of make-up, but also his chin became different.

  • the cure at his best

    defore decay

  • omg, robert smith looks normal XD

  • "normal" for a 20-year-old, perhaps.

he still looks normal, for someone pushing 50.

like it or not, most everyone grows up.

  • Why is it the older bands get the slower there song become? I mean this is an awesome version, but the did this song earlier this year and the tempo was so much slower.

  • Thank you ! there best song!

  • Amazing! Always ment The Cure 1979-1982 is the best Cure

  • great quality !!!! thx for posting this!!!!

  • I love hearing this faster version.

  • Did Robert Smith make this when he was with Siouxie and the Banshees?

  • Well, this song was made before Robert was with Siouxsie and the Banshees. The Cure started their career more or less around the same time as Siouxsie and the Banshees contrary to the popular belief.

  • Wow, I'm amazed by this video! I've been a fan of the cure since my teenage years in the mid 80's, but I've never heard any of these early songs before. I had no idea they even existed!

  • Likewise I'm old school CURED guy they had more essence they were melancholic!

  • Brilliant! I prefer older Cure songs and videos.

  • same here but the cure is awsome

  • screw disco...this is the stuff!!!

  • WOOOOW great quality video! At least, for a so old video ^^

    Love Simon \o/

  • It says it's Dempsey at the bass, but it clearly looks like Simon Gallup... no?

  • I think you are right, but may be these names indicate those who took part in the creation of the song.

    Thanks for comment.

  • The bass lines on the actual record were played by Michael Dempsey but over here, for this live show, Simon Gallup was playing the bass. In fact, this was one of the first shows after Simon joined The Cure along with Mathieu Hartley (the keyboardist) and also the first Cure concert that was broadcast live on TV.

  • @Simoneart It is definitely Simon Gallup playing the bass at this live show, no mistake there!

  • It says it's Dempsey at the bass, but it clearly looks like Simon Gallup... no?

  • Fantastic! Loved the way it sounded and I also liked the way Simon improvised that solo on the bass. It was originally a guitar solo.

  • u rite

  • wow this is so clear!

omg robert looks drop dead gorgeous!!!

  • gracias por tantos gratos momentos

  • Que joveeeeeeeeen!!!

  • What a rare treat..cheers!
