Using Robert E. Lee's photo on a video about George Bernard Shaw why? Well I guess they did both have beards. That's about the only thing they had in common though.
Next time you want to "educate" people about history, you should use the correct pictures and that way you won't look like a moron.
This is a stupid story. Besides being completely dubious as having ever occurred, it shows no proverbial wisdom worthy of recounting in the first place. Anyone with a tenth of the intelligence of Bernard Shaw knows that such a woman is a whore no matter how high her price. So why Shaw? In his social views he was a monster, but not unlike many of his generation. It was an overconfident, arrogant time. The cherry on the sundae, as many have already pointed out, is using Robert E. Lee's photo.
What utter garbige. That picture is not of Bernard Shaw. As for the quote, he would never have spoken to a woman in that manner. I was Custodian of & lived at Shaw's home Shaw's Corner for 8 years & met many people who knew him & worked with him in his plays & I have seen all of these video tapes & have copies of some of them & these versions are so edted that they are rediculous & portraying an awful untrueth.
The notion that persons should be safe from extermination as long as they do not commit willful murder, or levy war against the Crown, or kidnap, or throw vitriol, is not only to limit social responsibility unnecessarily, and to privilege the large range of intolerable misconduct that lies outside them, but to divert attention from the essential justification for extermination, which is always incorrigible social incompatibility and nothing else. ~George Bernard Shaw
This man called for the death of millions of people. He supported Stalin and Hitler's rise to power. He was a Marxian socialist who believed in the systematic killing of "undesirables". He wrote that what the world needed was 'a humane gas that will kill instantly and painlessly'; and for the extermination of 'useless races' on a scientific bases.
"Hitler found exactly what Shaw had called for in the Zyklon-B gas with which he snuffed out the lives of six million Jews and other 'useless races.'
damn that elitist bernard shaw... but great video, and i admit his joke was pretty awesome.

It's not supposed to be historically accurate.
